Drove an extra 45 minutes for these bad boys. They were not actively making donuts at the time which is what I really wanted to see but it was cool. They had parking which was full but we all figured it out and cut little locals looking like they were church bound flooding the line with grandpas and me! The donuts are always fresh and it's a lot of fun to watch them freshly make them when the sign is on. My favorite Krispy Kreme innovation of the last few years is the original filled donut - where they take an original glazed and fill it with pockets of icing. I've had one or two issues where they've forgotten to fill the donut, but it's been rare. One more thing to note is that this is a nut free Krispy Kreme. While that means you won't find any of the specialty Reese's donuts KK sometimes does, as a person with a tree nut allergy, I can appreciate the precaution. read more

Part of the appeal of Krispy Kreme is there are no locations near me so it's always special to try one. I literally hadn't eaten a Krispy Kreme donut for 20 years until today. We stopped and picked up about 20 assorted donuts around 0600. Eating a fresh donut right after it was made was heaven. I brought the rest into night shift and they still tasted fresh and delicious and were gone in minutes. The staff at the Scranton location were very friendly and the location was clean. They had those funny paper hats on the tables, I managed to grab one. I'm not going to go out of my way to return to Scranton anytime soon but those in the area should take advantage of this location to get some great donuts. read more

Krispy Kreme doughnuts are by far the best doughnuts made by any national doughnut chain including Dunkin Donuts (ho-hum...). Whenever I'm passing through the Scranton area, I take a short detour off I-81 onto the Scranton Expressway to Krispy Kreme goodness. This Krispy Kreme store has been around for a long time and longer than the newer short lived stores which opened and closed quickly in New York and Massachusetts (mid 2000s). People there liked the Krispy Kreme doughnuts, but the coffee was not very good and they stuck with their Dunkins for coffee and average donuts. The closest Krispy Kreme to me is located inside Mohegan Sun in CT. When the light is on outside, they are making fresh doughnuts. The original glazed doughnut is my favorite, which are very soft and light doughy inside and covered with a good layer of frosted sugar glaze. I also enjoy the glazed fruit filled varieties, chocolate frosted, glazed chocolate cake, and chocolate iced custard filled doughnuts. A dozen original glazed is $7.29 and a dozen assorted is $8.29 and they also have a good deal if you buy 2 dozen doughnuts (12 glazed and 12 assorted) for only $13.49. Some special varieties are extra including the limited offered Luv Bug!! (20 cents more). I stopped at the Scranton Krispy Kreme recently and picked up 2 dozen doughnuts, which I'm still enjoying all for myself back home in NH with my Starbucks coffee. The Krispy Kreme coffee really doesn't wow me though. I know some KK locations in California actually sell Coffee Bean coffee drinks. read more

But this time I tried the traditional cake (bottom left), banana pudding (bottom right), original glazed (top right) and chocolate iced with custard (top left). The traditional cake was good - would be great paired with coffee. And it's a nice escape from the sweetness overload of the others. I wasn't a Fan of the banana pudding one, I thought the filling was kind of gross. The chocolates iced with custard was good! Classic "Boston cream" but the chocolate icing wasn't actually my favorite. I prefer a less iced, more frosted chocolate topping. The original glazed is always a hit for me! Can any sugar coated, fried flour product even approach a Krispy Kreme? I think not. Make sure you go when they're cooking and the HOT light is on and ask for fresh ones. You can watch the staff pick them up immediately after they emerge from the gorgeous sugar waterfall and drop them in the box for you. They'll be too hot to eat if you immediately open the box (do it!) but if you wait 30-60 seconds, you'll be psychologically prepared and can tuck into them. Ahhhhhhh... Let's talk about how I had a bad experience after so many years with another location and I called several others for an emergency fundraiser ( I only needed 45 boxes ) and many of them said NO . Coming from out of state I was excited to have these donuts. The donuts are delicious. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have the Nutella donuts that I have had at other Krispy Kreme's. There was an older woman working- she was very nasty when I asked about the Nutella donut. She snapped back at me that they are peanut free. The young girl gave me an apologetic look.
