Long story short- I ended up buying a new wedding dress just a few months before my wedding! I came to Kristen end of May when my wedding date was JULY 1ST! She worked amazingly fast and had my dress done and ready for pick up less than 3 weeks later! I made a Yelp account, just to save another bride. I don't normally leave reviews. When initially looking into Kristin to alter my wedding dress, I looked at her overall reviews - I did not dig through her wedding dress reviews, lesson learned. I'm a pretty easy going person, so when I went in for my second fitting and there was a large oil-looking stain on the back of my dress, I was shocked, but Kristin assured me it wasn't from her, but she'd get it out. We connected on gardening and conversation was easy to make as she measured and snipped. She removed that stain by my next fitting, I noticed the lighting was poor this time, I also observed the cat hair on my dress and I was fairly certain she told me she never allowed the cats in her sewing room. But hey, lint rollers right? The cost seemed outrageous, I grew up sewing, but I wanted a professional to alter my very expensive dress for this very special day. I never did get an exact quote because apparently you can't just get that in the alteration world. Final fitting, the hem of my dress was 1/2"-1" shorter than the other side. VERY noticeable, but again, I try to relax, I'm getting married outside, no one will notice right? We discussed it, we talked about options, but we are crunching time until the wedding and I just thought surely no one will notice. I took the dress and wanted to show the photographer, just so she was aware. I pulled the dress out of the bag and she literally screeched. In better lighting you can see yellow, brownish stains all over the dress bag, on the dress. I went to pin up the bustle and the string just came out. There was an iron burn, car hair all over, black finger print marks, I'm talking ALL over, visible issues. My photographer was horrified and told me to buy a reception dress, but she would edit all of the ceremony pictures..wait what?! My dress is in really bad shape and I'm getting married in 21 days. I feel defeated.. Kristins solution was that she would take my dress back, fix it by the 3rd of September (wedding is the 21st), clean the cat pee with rubbing alcohol and if I still wasn't happy she'd refund me $100, out of the $725.50; hem, hustle and straps. I initially was going to go for it, but she told me she'd make sure to cover my dress (and future customers dresses) in a sheet just in case her cats peed on it again...I panicked, I just couldn't bring it back to her. Im out a lot of money, I never did get that $100 refund, and I have a dress to repair and clean and try to make it work for the most important day of my life. I usually have a go to spot for my alterations but I decided to switch it up as this was an important dress for an upcoming friend's wedding. My most recent alterations place I typically go to does great work but does have a history of losing things and I just couldn't take the risk! I knew I would have to pay more elsewhere but I had to as my event was less than a month away. I chose Kristen based on her great reviews and my best friend also went to her for alterations once and had a good experience. I needed a simple hem on the bottom and needed the straps brought up. For this, it cost $110. 50% down, and the remaining is due at pick up. I was a little shocked with the price because I am used to cheaper Asian places ($15 for hem). The dress itself had only cost $90 so you could imagine. But, I don't regret bringing it to Kristen because she delivered what I needed. For a three layered chiffon dress and bringing the straps up, I'd like to think that is pretty reasonable, but I don't get stuff altered enough to know and I can't say it's comparable to places I typically go. I dropped off my dress on 2/16 and it was ready for pick up 3/2. As you have probably seen from other reviews, Kristen is based out of her home. It's easy to find and there is easy parking available. I also like the fact that she responds via Yelp and it was super easy to then make an appointment via text. The only thing I would have liked more (which I didn't realize until I got home) is if my dress was steamed. Most places I go, my clothes come back steamed. I also noticed Kristen did not take off the original tags from my dress. I don't know if that means anything but I actually appreciated that. Compared to other places I go, the tags are always pulled off. Honestly, it's just something I rather do myself. Kristen should NOT market herself as a professional, and I am very disappointed in my experience. I do not recommend any services she provides. I was in search of alteration for a wedding dress. My aunt had given me her wedding dress- all I needed was a simple hem, and possibly some adjusting of the bustle and shoulder straps. I reached out to Kristen requesting a quote on Yelp, including pictures of my dress. She said she'd estimate the alteration of my wedding dress to cost around $225 ($150 for the hem and $75 bustle). I was aware that she did alterations out of her home, and I decided to meet her. When I met with her, she seemed understanding of what I was needing. She said she could have the alterations done, and the total would be $525 (in actuality, she charged me $300 for hem, $100 for bustle, $100 for adjustment to shoulder straps, and $25 for added lace). I was shocked at the high price, but I also assumed she knew what she was doing, and maybe my dress ended up being more complex than I initially thought. I did notice her space was small, and somewhat dark, and she had many dresses hanging in the room. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt - I was in her home, she seemed knowledgeable, and it was uncomfortable to comment on her workspace. Well, about 6 weeks later, I go to pick up the dress. When picking up, there are 2 cats in the work space, which doesn't make me feel reassured or happy to know there are animals roaming in the space my wedding dress is. I tried on the dress, and the alterations themselves seem decent (like I said, it's a basic hem and fix to the bustle). I noticed there was a small spot of snagged material near the bustle, but Kristen said this was normal, and it was because she removed a bustle in that spot. I do want to point out, when dropping my dress off, we agreed on adding to the bustle (not removing). I'm not sure why she even needed to remove the original bustles (but I'm not the professional). I wasn't too thrilled about the snagged material, but I justified it as it's just part of the process and when the dress is bustled, no one will notice. I paid the second half of the bill and went on my way. Well, when I got home, I tried the dress on (because my place has much better lighting than hers), I looked down, and immediately notice a large brown (looks like coffee) stain on the bottom, back part of my dress. THIS IS SO DISAPPOINTING. I immediately contacted her by phone and text. I sent her videos and photos, and she immediately denied having any part of this stain, saying that I didn't notice already having this stain on my dress. She even went as far to say that she didn't even work on that area of the dress - except, the stain is on the hem and bottom of the dress? She called me a bridezilla, trying to scam and harass her. Not only was the actual service provided subpar, I now have to spend more money and time cleaning this dress and fixing the damage. Kristen is not professional. Her work space is not appropriate. She misleads and causes more hassle. This I feel is fraudulent. This has been a terrible experience, which should have instead been pleasant, considering this is for my wedding and is a family dress. Kristen was not only able to get it done quickly, she offered a competitive price, and even a garment bag to keep my jumpsuit clean! I messaged Kristen very last minute desperately trying to figure out something to wear for a wedding in which I thought I had a couple dresses that fit. However I had gained lots of weight and hadn't tried them on... well to my not so pleasant surprise they were way too small. She said I could come THAT night to evaluate and let me know what she could do. I ended up bringing 4 dresses to show her the possibilities and what she thought she could do. I had read reviews on here and was a little unsure but decided to follow my gut. I showed up at her house and was pleasantly surprised. I don't know what other people were saying when they made comments like hoarder house? Or mentioned anything about the place being a mess. Her home was clean to me and her work space seemed very tidy and organized. She did mention she had been Kondo Method-ing but I still think any of those comments were just mean and a far reach. Yes there was a cat around- a sweet cat- and I didn't notice any cat hair and when I got my two dresses there wasn't any cat hair on them either. I was impressed by her creativity. The dress I wanted the most ended up not being possible to let out unless I wanted corset backing. But she ended up extending one dress for me since I'm tall and making the other bigger at the zip. I appreciated her problem solving. She offered good options and solutions and was very upfront and honest which I appreciated. She told me all pricing and everything so it was all clear. She said she would have it done in a couple days and even put it on her doorstep for me to drive by and get close to midnight! Good service! I needed a simple hemming of my bride's maid dress and I had 9 days till the wedding. The dress was from David's Bridals, a three layer dress with chiffon. I contacted Kristen on yelp and got a response within the hour. I made an appt and went to her place, she looked at the dress on me and did her measurements. I had my dress back within 6 days! When I went to pick the dress up she said her work room was too packed at the moment and I wasn't able to try the dress on but she reassured me I would be satisfied...and I definitly was! She does have two cats in her house and they do hang out in the work room...but they were both really cute! And more importantly, my dress DID NOT have any cat hair on it or any snagging/scratches that would indicate the cats were messing around with my dress...so I don't really see the problem with animals in the home if they are well behaved. It was a big project requiring height adjustment, resetting the shoulders and taking in the waist. When I went in for the fitting, one shoulder didn't fit correctly. She fixed it up right away. Brought my wedding dress to Kristen a month before the wedding to have her look at the bustle that seemed to be coming loose. She increased the height so the ends of the dress wouldn't be dragging on the end while fastened and it looked absolutely beautiful after her alterations. She took about 3 weeks to finish the dress and for 6 bustle buttons and a small fix (edge of zipper pouched out on m behind looking like a tail-_-), price wise it was very reasonable. I found Kristen through Yelp and I'm so glad I did! I bought an extremely difficult to alter wedding dress that I had no clue at the time would be so difficult. I had several fittings in Seattle where I was quoted more than the dress even cost. I went to Kristen and she quoted me $300 less than the best price I could find in Seattle. After several fittings she made my nightmare of a dress fit like a dream. I had horrible buyers remorse over this dress initially, but after what Kristen did for me me I feel like it was all worth it. She had creative ideas of how to change things to make the dress fit my body like a glove. I was ready to call my beautiful dress a loss and just sell it until I found Kristen. I am not one to write reviews but felt like I needed to, to let other brides know what I went through. This was a very interesting experience to say the least. I am sure that Kristen has the capability of doing good work, as some reviews show. However be weary before contacting. Just know that she works from within her home, which I was completely fine with, until we got there. Her "studio" room it's self is very tiny and there is cats and cat hair everywhere including on the tables and ironing board etc. It was also very cluttered with stuff covering all walls and floors. However, I did not want appearances of the house to be the reason I did not have her alter my dress. But it got worse. When I put on my dress the room was too tiny to even spread it out and see the train. She would make comments like "thank god this isn't a princess dress" which made me uncomfortable. She got to looking at what I needed done and was helpful talking through what we should do. She said I needed it hemmed at the bottom if I didn't want to wear 5 or 6in heels, which I definitely did not want to do. She told me that my dress was very complicated and would cost a lot of money to hem cause it would take so long. Then she thought of an idea of "tacking" my dress, which basically was like bustling it but all over the place. At first my mom and I both thought this could be a cute idea and she told us it would be a lot cheaper to do this. However, at the very end she finally totaled our cost, which I had no idea how much it was going to be and she said it would be $550, I was floored!! Almost started to cry because that was WAY to much and had already had other friends get married and find amazing alterations for way cheaper. Right away I told her I do not know I could do this and her attitude flipped, she seemed very annoyed. I told her I was so sorry but maybe I will do high heels just so it does not cost that much money and she said she would need to charge me for an hour of "repining". Since this experience I have told many people and they have never heard of a seamstress charging by the hour. I told her I would just have to think about it and she made us pay her a deposit of $200. I felt so uncomfortable and did not know what to do and was not assertive enough that I just did it and left my dress with her. I immediately went to the car and cried just because I knew how bad this was. Gets worse from here. The next day I called an alteration place that my bridal shop actually suggested and she could not believe how much she wanted to charge me. She told me she has a flat rate of 350 if you are doing hemming and alterations. I immediately texted Kristen to say I would like to pick up my dress. She sent multiple text almost begging for me not too. Which also felt threatening. Telling me I would not be able to find someone else to do my dress before my wedding, no one else is going to have as low prices, and that bridal shops don't know what they are talking about. She then told me she was going to keep $60 of the $200 for her time. I was frustrated by this but at this point I just wanted my dress. I then took it to another alteration place and oh my god. Best experience of my life. She actually knew what she was doing and likes to do it. She had me put on the dress and fluffed out the bottom, which Kristen DID NOT. This made a HUGE difference and found out my dress is perfect length for me and I do not even need any hemming. I only needed adjustments. She charged me a whopping $150 for, cups, tightening straps, bustling, and making me a custom garter. PLUS she steams and presses the dress and vail for free, which Kristen said I could buy a steamer on amazon and do it myself... My new alteration gal also told me that my dress was not complicated and was made to be hemmed and has no idea what Kristen was talking about. Kristen told me if I did not get the "tacking" it would still be 300 dollars. Even had the audacity to say, "I'm not going to ask you how much your wedding cost but I doubt 200 extra is much more to making your dress better". Overall, it was not a good experience. Maybe if you are looking for something simple and have a simple dress you would have better luck. read more

She took my dress that I bought online with a v neck and straps and turned it into a strapless sweetheart!! It required a lot of work!! But turned out exactly like I had imagined! This review is after the second incredibly altered dress that Kristen did for me. A few years ago she did a really tough job on a dress that I needed let out several sizes. More recently, she took in a gown for me because I have lost weight. Her demeanor is very calm and chill and she has a good eye for what needs to get done. I had brought a dress in looking for the sides and back to be taken in and the waist taken out 1". Kristen charged me $140 and gave me a pick up date of a week later. When the day came to pick up my dress, I got a text from Kristen asking if she could have more time with the dress because she hadn't finished it. She mentioned that she usually doesn't take work during this timeframe because she has a lot of craft shows to do, which I understand, but I don't feel that she should be taking business if she doesn't have the time for it. I agreed to pick up the dress the next night. The waist didn't have enough extra fabric, so she wasn't able to take it out per our agreement. Also, the taking in of the sides and back didn't look nice, so she undid it, but still charged "half" for her time. Quoted $140, took $70 down, and $50 at pick up. Paid $120 total for my dress to be taken out .25". For reference, bridesmaids that went elsewhere paid $40 for the same work. Kristen also tried to sell me her scarves, which seemed warm. She was nice, but I would not return, and not recommend. read more
