Let me start by saying, I'm very picky about my hair. It takes a lot for me to go to a new hair place. After Van Michael & Helmet, I was looking for a new salon closer to home in Smyrna. Thank goodness I found Tiffany at Kristen James! Tiffany took time with my consultation and made sure I was totally comfortable. I showed her some pictures, and we made sure we were speaking the same language. Kristen also came over to add to the consultation. Tiffany did an awesome job with my highlights. I like thin, natural, blended highlights, and that's what I got! We cut off about 3 inches from the back & fixed up the layers. I totally trusted Tiffany, and she proved me right! What a refreshing and wonderful experience I had today at this cute salon! My past experiences using Scoutmob at hair salons have been abysmal. It was the opposite at Kristen James. I was welcomed in by Kristen and Krystyna. I loved that they listend to me and really had a thorough understanding of what I wanted. Kristen took her time cutting my hair, making sure she did an excellent job and that I was pleased with the result. The blue hue and relaxing music sets the mood for a relaxing experience. Passed this place several times and didn't notice it was a hair salon. Great atmosphere - quaint, not too big but not cramped either. While cutting my hair she spoke with her associate teaching her a particular technique. Her associate is referred to as the "blow out queen". I'll be back to check that out. Had a really great cut today from Kristina (spelling?) here! I had an emergency fix up after a disastrous haircut from myself, and I was really pleased with the result! Kristina also gave me tips on how to style and manage my new short hair, and I'm looking forward to following her advice. My only concern is that this salon might be a little pricey-- their cuts go from $55 and up. I was staying up in smyrna for the week house sitting for a friend and on a whim, decided I'd try a new place to get my hair cut - I've been on the search for a stylist I like for bit. So I saw this place on scoutmob and thought I'd give it a try. Best. Haircut. In. Ages. Everyone in the salon is super friendly and its a good vibe... I've tried some other places in the area before and I get that 'burb attitude fake fancy vibe. Not here - the staff is hilarious and just has a great energy about them. A Jr stylist did the first cut on my hair and had Kristen check it out.... his work was great but her mentoring was super impressive. And her cut was fantastic! After she was done, I felt like something magical had just happened! But you never really know until you get home, wash it and try to do it yourself..... perfect. Absolutely perfect. Just a random tidbit here that solidly means I'll be driving back up to Smyrna to go here again..... I used to be a blonde, for years. This means lots of fried and dry hair. In addition, my fine, style-less hair has changed in texture over the last few years in general. I've feel like I was fighting with the dryness for years. I've asked every colorist, every stylist, every friend that's been to hair school what to do.... I use the keratin shampoos, use a heat protectant, try to wash every other day, do the deep conditioning treatments... some thing have worked better than others but I still end up straightening my hair most days to smooth it out - which we know if bad for this problem. So I ask Kristen her opinion as I've done everyone else... THE FIRST AND ONLY PERSON TO EVER SAY TO ME "hey what kind of straightener are you using." I thought the ceramic and ionizing heat tools were all marketing bogus but she explained it to me in a way that I thought... let's try this. What a horrible experience!!! While the salon was nicely decorated, i think that my overpriced hair cut and color paid for it. I couldn't believe that the owner charged me $250.00 for a color and a five minute haircut. She visited with another co-workers pretending to cut my hair. I feel cheated. When i asked them about the cost, i was told, "At least she didn't charge for the deep conditioning." The owner never discussed prices. This salon stole from me.
