Blah. Went to the larger Kroger in Carbondale for the first rime I had been going to Mytohysburo Now I understand why I haven't been using the bigger. Their employees are miserable. Their manager, is beyond rude Here's my short experience Dropped in with my mother who lives separately, and my niece We all live in different households, but we shop together to save on gas I put some 12 packs in my cart So did my mother Upon checking out, I had ten, it said limit 8 and I genuinely missed that notice So I bought the eight And my mother said, toss the two extra in my cart. The second she did the cashier called the manager. The manager took them out, stating there is a limit of eight My mother said that's fine, I'll buy the two extra. The manager then literally TOOK them away to the service counter. Stating it's a limit eight My mother protested stating she was under eight (And I just started in disbelief as this was going on over two 12 packs of orange crush) The manager said in a bitter and very rude declaration. It is eight per household She began to state she lived IN A DIFFERENT HOUSEHOLD The manager walked away mid sentence So congratulations Kroger. We could have been the newest Soda Robbers of Southern Illinois Us, with our criminal mastermind plan to outwit your company of two twelve packs of diet orange Crush The big plan of getting ten instead of eight. Ruined my daughter's first birthday party. We specially asked for mint green cupcakes with white or yellow cake a while back. The day of her gathering, they call and state that they only had chocolate cake. I obliged and said okay but make sure the icing is mint green. They told me they would call me to let me know when the cupcakes were ready. Never got a call. I went to go pick them up, the cupcakes were Ninja Turtle green. Now as for her cakes, they got them wrong wrong wrong. I asked for baby blue cakes. We got white iced cakes with yellow, turquoise, and hot pink piping. I will NEVER purchase from there bakery again. Then when my husband told them that the order was wrong, they told him that there was nothing they could do. As a first time mom, you want things to be perfect but I guess the Kroger bakery wants to do what they want to do and doesn't care about your request or the money you spend to create a nice event. read more

I'm originally from a big city so I'm thrilled with the nice salad bar, freshly made sushi, nice fresh seafood selection, and great variety of ethnic foods. No way does Kroger get a 4. They are just like every other store in Carbondale--- subpar to the other Kroger's I've visited in North Little Rock AR. The seafood (crablegs) are NEVER de-thawed which leads to me spending more money for ICE since it's weigh by the pound. The customer service line is always really slow, they should think about having 2 ppl up there at all times OR having a cashier as a back up person that can hop on when the lines gets long - Also the store managers talk to her employees like crap- I've literally heard her talking to them and putting the dead of Jesus in them. read more

While in town my family went by this Kroger to get a few grocery items. The last few items we picked up to purchase happened to be wine. Service was good until we arrived at the checkout; near the end. The wine was put on the belt to check out last, due to them being glass and what not. The man that checked us out asked to see our I.D's for the wine my mother wanted to purchase. I looked at him and told him that I wasn't purchasing it. I didn't have my license to prove that I am 24 years old but my mother had hers, proving her age of 51. The Supervisor at around 4:30 pm on Thursday, June 6, 2013 made her way over to the register we were on and insisted to see everyones I.D's that were in our family. So my mother checked out without the wine and let me take the cart and receipt to the car. My mother got in another check out lane to purchase her wine separately and the Supervisor noticed her from across all the other checkout lanes and came over to her lane. She started embarrassing my mother loudly in front of other customers; stating that she had already refused to sell her the wine. I was no where in the store and my mother got in another lane to check out to not cause any problems. The manager came down so my mother could understand why she was being discriminated against when clearly, legally, she was providing the correct proof of her age to the cashier, the second time, without me present. The manager could hardly finish his statement, because the supervisor kept rudely interrupting him several times. As a manager, that is unacceptable customer service no matter if the customer was in the wrong. I finally understand why Mr. Clark left this Kroger as their manager and went to Pepsi instead. This supervisor even mentioned how she would refuse to sell the wine to my father if he came in to try to purchase it. Take note, my father did not even enter the store to begin with at all. She mentioned how she would notice the same last name on the credit card and therefore refuse his order. That is complete BULLSHIT! I understand that managers in the city ordinance of Carbondale, IL have certain liquor license rules to abide by and what not, but if it requires losing a whole family line with the same last name's service no matter it be alcohol or just groceries is it really worth the risk of even carrying the alcohol in the first place? What are they going to do, tell every family that has children that they can't purchase beer because they have children who are underage? Give me a fucking break, that would kill their business entirely. I was discriminated and you can best believe that our family who normally spends over $500 a month there, will never be coming back for anything. That's over $6,000 lost in private sales, annually. They don't take their little saying at the bottom of their paycheck stubs seriously at all and should just get rid of it. " A Satisfied Customer Made this Paycheck Possible" If my dad really wanted to, he could have sued the entire city of Carbondale and Kroger for what happened and walked away with an easy win but he's 50 years old and a CEO, so he doesn't have time for piddly shit. Unlike me, who is in the media business and I have every ounce of time to display how disrespectful this african american lady was to my whole entire family line. I just wanted to make a big deal about it, because any normal family should not have to deal with such disgraceful customer service and the city of carbondale should rethink their loop hole policy about how to go about selling wine in grocery stores. Because couples who have children aren't going to leave them home alone when they grocery shop; and if that couple needed a bottle of wine for an anniversary they were having or what not they wouldn't have been able to purchase it. read more

I have always had very good experiences at this kroger except for a couple of days ago. I was searching up and down the isles for Lipton onion soup mix for a recipe I was planning to make. As I was looking this man passed me and said "smile, it can't be that bad" I laughed and overlooked him. I briefly noticed he was wearing a badge but wasn't wearing the normal kroger attire. So I turning around to ask for help finding the Lipton mix. I asked "do you work here"? He replied "no, I'm just wearing a badge for no reason"! I just turned in the opposite direction and started looking myself again and thought what a dick! So rude! I mean just because someone is wearing a name tag doesn't me they work at kroger. They could have just gotten off work and needed some groceries. My husband does this all the time, he works for the hospital. It's a pretty common question. Yeah so I didn't bother asking him anything because I don't need a smart a$$ helping me. Instead I asked for the help of a customer beside me. She gladly helped without being condescending. She said she had had a situation with the same guy checking out once. I assume he was probably in management by the way he was dressed. His name was Steve, I believe. Anyways, I will be avoiding him in the future if I plan to shop there again! read more

One of the friendliest stores in Carbondale. My wife and I have been shopping here for about a year and we love the friendly service and all the help that the people here offer you. Once they recognize you on a weekly basis, you can count on great service. The prices are good too. We were surprised that most prices are better than the discount stores around. We are hooked.
