Since the time of my last review here this Kroger and I have been on a serious hiatus. I thought I had given an update but during that time but I suppose not, so let's do a quick rewind. Something happened here during the pandemic and this Kroger got ROUGH. Empty shelves, run down, short staffed, etc. It got so bad we basically gave up shopping here even though it was the closest and most affordable large scale grocery near us. For nearly 3 maybe 4 years we steered clear, opting for other spots in town. Then last week I was running errands in Westgate and needed a thing or two. Convenience got me and so I stopped in for the first time in maybe two years? And wow! Talk about a glow up. I don't know when it happened but this place has been renovated. The produce and prepared food sections were STACKED. The cheese selection? Bangin'! And not just cheese, there's a whole section of the store dedicated to building a cheese board. My dream come true! The meat selection is great and full of both regular and organic options. Dairy is fully stocked. The ethnic foods is diverse and I found every item I needed on a list I had planned to fulfill somewhere else. Even the eggs were abundant! I hadn't planned on doing a full grocery run but I couldn't help myself. I texted my husband, "OMG this Kroger is amazing now!" He had himself written a one star review for this location so he's excited to go check it out for himself. I've committed myself to shopping more locally for groceries and the like but sometimes, like it or not, you just need a big box for a wider selection, and I'm glad to see this one close to home has returned to form. read more

I'm done. Shopped at Kroger for decades. Instead of trying a merger how about providing adequate staffing at your stores and adequate wages to attract the level of staffing that you need. This Kroger constantly has stocking issues. Today none of the can return machines were working. It's a waste of time trying to shop here. This place is very shady. I had a huge order. The first item didn't ring up right, the second item didn't ring up right even though it was in the ad, because they didn't specify the Large 31-40 count shrimp needed to be peeled and deveined (an item that I discovered was out of stock after being walked to the back of the store from the register)... They wouldn't make it right. I put some of the cold stuff in the fridge before security told me I didn't need to. I had a whole cart of stuff that I abandoned, because I refuse to give my money to a company that doesn't honor their own ads. Gross experience, and I won't be back there. Its no longer near me, but I used to live closer and have shopped there for decades, and its just too garbage time to bother with at this point. read more

Point out shady business practice- get yelled at by seafood guy....=1star. Look, it's simple math - I can't help myself .... Your sign clearly states, " $6.00 / 4 oz " for lobster tail but when I ask for four of them I get charged $24.00/.90 LB (see pics) which is 10% in krogers favor. When I point this out seafood guy comes back with nonsensical math words (like all too many Americans these days) and I can't help it- it's like pointing to the sky and saying "it's purple, and you need to agree with me because I know my colors" and of course I pointed out that his math made no sense and the scale did not lie ( at least as far as we know). Then seafood man starts raising his voice at me- "look that's the way we do it here- do you want it or not?!" A) I don't like to be yelled at B) If it's no big deal, why can't Kroger throw a few scallops in there- it's only 10% C) if hats just " the way they do it" then hey are admitting that Kroger systematically cheats seafood customers for 10 % on a regular basis. Anyone know the agency to call that can help Kroger with their math? W 1 star bcs I like Kroger's selection. read more

It is a bit dated and the employees seem a little harrowed. However, the store has held up. The parking lot is tight, so watch for cross traffic from Westgate shoppers. As a heads up, they are currently only taking online appointments for flu shots. read more

The West Side's primary grocery store for Plebs (as opposed to the privileged Plum Market) outlasted the competition (see ya' Farmer Jack's) and to the present provides a slightly cut above selection of general household goods to Choice grade beef and remarkably goid fresh seafood. What I also noticed in the twenty-years or so that I've lived in SoCal is that they retain employees. I remember at least two guys from over 25-years ago!!!! The store is large, very clean and organized, all of which made for a superb whirlwind visit the several times I came here during my 11-day vacation. The custom cake for our family celebrating wasn't top of the line but neither was it badly executed. The guests ate it all so that's testimony for you. Getting fresh Cod and Atlantic farm-raised Salmon was also a pleasant experience and we got almost 4lbs. of fish for under $40! It roasted well too I might add. In California Krogers is called Ralph's but the core essentials hold true there, especially in the produce, bakery and meat departments. Well done Krogers! read more

A few months ago, I prided myself on being a savvy grocery shopper. What that means is knowing what each market does best, where the best deals are on certain products, and shopping at a variety of stores to gather the very best foods at the lowest prices. You may think it's a dumb hobby, but I think the same thing about golf. These days, I'm limiting my outings and trying to get at least two weeks of groceries with a single trip to a supermarket. For me, that means going to Kroger. Why Kroger? Because I can get everything from toothpaste, to Lao Gan Ma Spicy Chili Crisp, to home cleaning supplies, to organic produce, all delivered to the trunk of my car, without stepping foot into the store. As a bonus, this location sells liquor at state minimum prices. The Kroger website is pretty awful. Navigating it is a royal PITA. And scoring one of those precious store pick-up slots isn't an easy feat. Still, the more and more I do it, the easier it gets. My pro-tip is to wait until midnight to place your order, because that's when new pick-up slots become available. I place a small order to secure the date and time, and then throughout the week, I update my order with more and more goodies. This week, for the very first time, Charmin toilet paper was available for online pick-up orders. Just seeing that brought a tear of joy to my eye. Now granted, I still think the odds of the product making it into my order is low. That's always the catch. These days, many products aren't available. But I've learned another valuable trick: allow for substitutions. After using one of those web based home delivery platforms, I got burned by substitutions. However, at Kroger, they will give you some time in advance to approve or reject their proposed alternatives, if something you want isn't available at the moment. So maybe, just maybe, after all of these weeks without buying toilet paper, I'll finally be able to replenish our supply. We'll just have to wait and see. If they come through, I might just have to give Kroger that fifth star. And I have to say, after a handful of times using the Kroger website, the products I buy all the time are now at the top of the list, and replenishing these staples is pretty darn easy. Which means, when the pandemic is all over, I suspect I'll be buying from Kroger more and more. Finally, this review would be incomplete without a shoutout to the heroes who are stocking the shelves, disinfecting the store, checking out customers, and running groceries out to cars. Thank you! Having just moved here, we were happy to have a Kroger near our new home--until we went there. The store is so small and old, and half the store (literally) is beer and wine and junk food and non-grocery items. Is this because of a large number of students? It seems like a long way from campus, but can't figure out why it is so different than most Kroger stores. It has the largest selection of single serve frozen foods we have ever seen, but half the selection of breads, canned vegetables and other food staples as most Kroger stores. It often runs out of basic foods such as common vegetables and breads. So disappointing. read more

Very rude manager, very rude associates. I had a bagger who was noticeably special needs, but could still preform normal tasks. He bagged all my groceries for me in a self checkout. He bagged boxes with boxes and colds with colds. He was very helpful, sweet, and kind. I tried to tell the manager how great he treated me and how well his service was and the manager brushed me off. Also other sales associates were not very nice to him. I think everybody should be treated fairly, but when people with special needs get complimented on their service, you should let them know that people like them are appreciated and got good feedback. They seemed to not care at all. He should get a reward for his good service. read more

On January 5th, 2024 , I asked to purchased a Covid test Kit at the Kroger Ann Arbor location...The manager gave me two items and said I could check out at the grocery registers !?...I Then proceeded to the registers which all had a long line...!! After going home and looking at these two items, I realized I only needed one...The other item was priced at $16.99 and I did not need it. I went back the next day and the pharmacy could not give me a refund...The manager sent to Customer Service...Customer Service was closed !!! I went back to the Pharmacy...the Manager told me to go to a self checkout or a grocery checkout terminal...I went to a Self Checkout and the woman in charge said she couldn't help me and to go to a register...I went to a register and after waiting the cashier said I had to go to register 7...I had to wait in a long line for some time and I finally was able to get a refund !! I had purchased a Kroger Health Savings card a few months ago but it does not give discounts on Covid Test Kits....Unbelievable.....I am 73 years Old and this is the first time I felt it necessary to write a bad review !! Needless to say I won't be going back to that store in the future and I am sorry I purchased their "Kroger Savings Card".... read more

Finally found a pharmacy with quality customer service that runs efficiently. Have been a customer there for over a year now and am relieved. There have been no problems with any of my prescriptions and the staff are resourceful. Plus their drive through is always quick, never waiting in a line. read more

Sadly, due to Covid-19, the staffing shortages have drastically affected services- the last but not the least of which was I had to WAIT IN A LENGTHY LINE to scan and bag my over $200 worth of groceries myself -after shopping for them... I realize it's Covid's fault, but I'm going to find another Kroger at which to shop. Hopefully, they'll have someone working the meat dept., cashiers and baggers. Man, when did the entrance to this Kroger start to take on the dreaded grocery-store-stink? The last few times I've been there, that's what has greeted me. Not a great first impression. I also wish they had the mini/half-carts here, but that's not really the reason I'm downgrading. The stink is quite off-putting. I'll still go here for the sake of convenience, but please, please, someone clean up the entrance with some strong bleach. Your stomach should not turn upon walking into a place to buy food. read more

For a grocery store chain, this branch of Kroger delivers a pretty good sekection. First off, don't even bother shopping here unless you have a Kroger Card. It's not a big deal to get one: you just complete a simple sign up at checkout. The reason is simple: much of the ' good' pricing is only if you use the K Card. To the store itself, it is well laid out with standard spacing down the aisles. A very large produce section with specials on the entrance which adjoins the Deli and bakery. Big plus is the fresh sushi station where I have enjoyed some great takeout sushi. It's nice to see it made right there in the open. Meats and seafood are good quality though special pricing seems to be limited. Huge wine and beer area with a large selection and frequently discounted prices. Check out is notably food though for the stores size, the number of lanes seems lacking. That said, in addition to the self - check stations, the staffed full- service lanes are almost always staffed. read more

So I haven't been to this Kroger in a while... I just happen to be by so I stopped by to see what was on sale... while I didn't buy anything, I didn't realized this place was renovated since my last visit. The place is a lot cleaner, more open and looks bigger! They have Chase bank and Starbucks coffee and it looks more open then before. While I didn't buy anything this time around, I'll for sure go back to shop. read more

Things have been looking sort of up here since my last review, although that could be because the aforementioned grumpy employees were all fired... or because I've started going through self-checkout lanes since you don't get bag credits anymore. There is this one guy who grabs the carts in the parking lot who is just the sweetest ever! He is so polite and always says hello and will make conversation if you seem interested. Today in particular though, the guy who was working the self-checkout lanes was very patient with me. I thought this package of 93/7 lean ground turkey was labeled BOGO, but he went all the way to the back of the store and found that it was only the ground turkey breast. Then he asked if I would rather get the turkey breast, and I said yes (felt really bad for sending him back there again, but he did not seem bothered by the request at all). Too bad I didn't catch his name, but I really did appreciate the effort. Why only three stars? I guess because a lot of things are often out of stock (I only manage to find meatless Spaghetti Rings every other time I'm here) and whenever Crest Pro-Health is listed in the circular as $2.49, that's never the case in this store (closer to $3.49 or $4.29 or some amount I'm not willing to pay for toothpaste). read more

I don't know what these people are complaining about. I'm a fan of most Kroger's and this one though it is not one of the nicest, it has some of the best deals ever! For starters my favorite section the bakery is huge and has the biggest selection I have seen at any Kroger with the best managers specials, you can get a dozen donuts that they baked that morning in the afternoon for $2.49! They even let you pick which ones you want and at this location they have an almond pastry that I haven't seen at any other Kroger that beats most real bakeries! I stocked up on those as well as some other goodies and found so man other deal throughout the store it was unbelieveable! The staff was super nice, what a suprise to find the best prices in Ann Arbour! read more

The sushi at any Kroger is questionable at best. The sushi here looks down right awful. They had a roll with shrimp poured over a California toll. The shrimp looked dry and gross, like the shrimp that comes with cup of noodles ramen except slightly larger. They have this cool bread slicer thing. read more

When I get to Kroger's you would you would think I've never been in a grocery store before... . for some reason the grocery stores are just different in Michigan or up north. They carry different products and such One of Tom'sand mice favorite products is shoestring beets and Kroger Brand actually makes them and carries them. We don't get to the Houston area where there are Krogers in Texas often at all, so we were just checking it out while we were here in Ann Arbor because there's one less than a mile from my sister's house. Beverly- one of their great team members helped my husband out trying to locate some because he could only find three cans and after calling me and letting me know we decided we would try to see if they had a case of them in the back and just buy the case. She bent over backwards to try to figure it out and even went to her manager to see if there was a way they could be ordered and how that would work. Thanks Beverly for all your hard work and for trying to get us the product that we wanted. We'll go home with a dozen cans at least!!! read more

I'm very disappointed to read that the CEO received $22 mil last year when his employees are struggling to survive. Wages should increase, as a bare minimum to cover inflation, 7% per hour. If that does not happen, it is wage theft. Unionize. There are apps so you can do it anonymously. read more

This Kroger is less than 5 minutes from where I live so I do shop here a lot. But it has been frustrating on many many occasions where I cannot find what produce I am looking for because it is out of stock. I've had to run to plum market and pay extra or go all the way to Meijer for items I need after already shopping in Kroger. I know Covid somehow has screwed up the amount of working people available, but it is very frustrating to have to wait in very long lines for only one self checkout area open and no lanes. I hope they can get more staff soon and are prioritized for more and better produce selection in the future. read more

It's a three star place. The prices are higher than where I live (which is in Monroe). There is more prepared food and something that must be a standard here-front of house bottle return (for the homeless people so that they don't traipse thru the store?) that I wasn't aware of until I searched everywhere for it! I'm used to going to the back and rifling thru the clearance items (gluten-free scores!). The rest of the reviews are correct, the staff is pretty glum. I have been a customer for many years. Due to the quality of their staff, I have never had any problems and they're friendly and helpful. Since I am a regular grocery customer, the convenience of one-stop shopping is also a big plus. read more

I was hoping I could give this Kroger zero stars. I used to be a regular customer at this local Kroger store on (S. Maple Rd). Today, when I was checking out using their automatic scanning machine, the machine kept malfunctioning. After I repeatedly requested for assistance, one of their employees whose name was April reluctantly came over to the machine. Instead of helping me solve the problem, she directly accused me of trying to steal their milk because she said she didn't see the correct number of milk cartons on the screen. I was left at the machine waiting for more than 30 minutes until their manager came to fix the machine and confirmed that NOBODY WAS TRYING TO STEAL THEIR MILK. Overall, this was the worst shopping experience so far in my whole life. What a terrible grocery store and poorly trained, incompetent employees! read more

Felt in danger, didn't like it. I'm here on business and had to pick up some things. I parked in the well lit section of the parking lot near handicap signs. I went to the nearby door locked. Went further into darkness, locked. Had to go to the end of the store where the parking area was completely dark to gain access. Well, it's Kroger's and I know I didn't NEED to review it, but my last experience there left a bad taste in my mouth. I went to Kroger to do my bi-weekly shopping and one of the first spots I hit up is the deli. I waited...and waited.......and waaaaited to have someone help me. Now keep in mind, there was no one in line and there were two girls behind the counter, one chatting on the phone and the other singing. The singer walks from behind the counter, then comes back, puts on gloves...They both noticed me but continued to ignore me. Finally the singer, acknowledges me, while continuing to sing, then moves a garbages can (with gloves on!!!) before asking me my order...I said nevermind and walked away. She then gives me attitude and says I was just putting my gloves on. I saved her a lecture about cross-contamination and just bought some pre-packed lunchmeat. As much as that irritated me, Mariah's right, it really is the best Kroger around and I'll keep going back for most of my shopping (except for their WAY overpriced wine selection and lunchmeat). read more

My A2 go to Krogers. Recently removed seating area near Starbucks and turned in to Online order/pickup shipment centers for pick ups and grocery deliveries. They seem a bit cheaper than Meijer. Bathrooms are not in good shape, need a total makeover. Many staff you see here have been at this particular store for over ten years. read more

The staff here are friendly. I've been to many krogers and this one is the best. The cleanest and most product options. They carry a lot of products you a would find at whole foods, trader joes and plum market...for a fraction of the cost. read more

This is a pretentious Kroger, particularly compared to Carpenter Road. It's clean. It's got a great selection of cheeses, cosmetics, beauty, organics, ready-made meals, and other Whole-Foodsy items. It's got a Godiva store inside, for whatever silly reason. But it's really aimed at the wealthy, and those who mostly assemble ready-made organic delicacies. But, if you want people food, say, tortillas. Or kidney beans. Or flour. Or "lower rent" or ethnic foods, you're better off going over to Carpenter Road. It's a shame that the Kroger which is closest to me, is also the least useful for everyday cooking. But at least it's pretty inside. read more

Kroger has finally finished their remodeling and the new space looks great! They have a nice, fresh selection of organic meats and produce, new lighting, fresh fish counter, better-quality baked goods, and the whole store looks and smells clean. In addition to the changes, the clientele at Kroger are generally nice too - I actually have witnessed parents admonishing their children and making them behave in public instead of screaming tantrums and rudely pestering other shoppers (a rarity in today's me-me-me world). Sometimes there aren't enough baggers and that can slow down checkout lines - but we don't mind bagging our own stuff so it's not a huge deal. I don't like to spend an arm/leg on grocery staples and Kroger has great prices for most items. We shop at "Krog" about once a week then drive a block over to get local/organic meat and Zingerman's bread at Arbor Farms, and ever-so-often a visit to Hiller's. Perfecto! read more

Visiting this Kroger reminded me of why I normally shop at Hiller's. Because I like for advertised items to be available, and I appreciate smart and nice employees. If I go to Kroger at all, it's normally the one on Plymouth, and where I've never had a bad experience. However, I was on the west side on Friday around 4pm and thought I would stop to pick a few things up. At this Kroger, they have a very long counter that starts out as deli, becomes a custom sandwich counter, and then morphs into the hot food. It is really unclear if there is one line for everything, or if you're just supposed to stand in front of what you want and wait. So there was just one person working at the deil and a bunch of people waiting around. There were two people working in the hot food area, and they seemed to be actually preparing/packaging food and not serving customers. One of them finally came over to the deli and asked the woman in front of me what she wanted. The woman indicated that she wanted a custom sandwich (they prepare them fresh when you order), and the employee responded that she'd have to wait for the other employee who was busy slicing meat. Not a great answer. Then, she asked me what I wanted. I gestured up to the VERY large sign that advertised an 8-piece friend chicken, and asked if they were selling that chicken pre-packaged or whether it was the chicken sitting on top of the warmer down at the other end. We walked down there, and she told me that what they had out was all they had left, and unless there was some in another display, there wasn't any left. This left me confused - why would they advertise something they didn't have, and why would they not have hot chicken prepared just in time for people to pick it up for dinner?? I was told "we usually make it earlier in the day." Oh. Well, I guess next time I want to pick up hot fried chicken to consume many hours later I'll swing by. Um, no I won't. Kroger's does have very reasonable prices on fresh produce, and the quality is usually very good, but I would not go there for another other than that. read more

Okay, I'd like to give this Kroger 3.5 stars, but I'll be generous and round up. What I love: lots of parking, decent produce, $1 Kroger bread (man, my kids eat so many sandwiches), great sale prices and rarely a wait to checkout. My number one complaint about Meijer is the length of time I have to wait in line in order to give them my money. Kroger seems to be aware of how annoying this is (I've heard them mention checkouts in their advertising recently). What I don't love: paper bags without handles (the bane of my existence!), miserable and vocal employees, and I wish they would double coupons up to $1 read more
