Kroger's tobacco area is operated by employees with little to NO customer skills. I'm talking to you, Human Resources. I asked for my brand and waited for the employee to locate it, offering to show her where it is located. The response was, "No, I'll find it; don't tell me." This wasn't said in a manner of kindness but 100% rudely. This is not the first time that my friends and I have dealt with the, I don't give a d--- attitude. The Kroger store has a 2.5 rating. I ordered a cake from the bakery for work and it looks like a 2nd grader is who wrote the message and decorated it. It's lopsided and looks like a skate ramp. When I went to pick it up, there was no one in the bakery department so I had to get someone out of the deli department to help me. This is, without a doubt, the worst Kroger I've ever been to. The majority of their employees are immature, disrespectful and unhelpful. But the biggest thing to me was what I witnessed in the self checkout line. There was a moment that sticks out to me where there was a younger homeless man using the self checkout. He rangthe items up and started to insert the bills to pay for everything. Then, some older man walks to him, grabs his groceries and tells the homeless kid to leave. Now this young man is very well known in the area and everyone knows that the kid is harmless. But just because he was homeless, he was kicked out and wouldn't let him get his groceries. It's disgusting because I know the young man and I know that he wasnt shoplifting. They just hate the image that the homeless or those in need give off and find every way possible to get them away from public eye. read more

Absolutely terrible store! This is my 3rd review and things still haven't changed! DO NOT BUY FROZEN FOOD THERE. They roll it out and there it sits for hours. I have spoken with management, I have spoken with the employees and they still continue to do this. I spoke with a FROZEN FOOD clerk today about it and he told me the FDA allows it to sit out for 3 HOURS! WHAT? This is total bologna! I pointed out the melted ice cream and the thawed prepared meals and it made no difference to him, he continued stocking it. Id like someone to show me where the FDA standards day this. Next time I will take a thermometer, not that it will do any good. If the managers at this store can't do any better than this, they should close the store before somebody gets very ill. read more

I must "amen" the reviews on horrible customer service. This store is by far the worst grocery store in the tri-city area! My patient, who has shopped there for 15 years, was turned away because she had written a check (the order total was $779.91 after coupons), but only had a military ID and not a Driver License. I had shopped for her before, went through self-check out and the checks were good to go. But when I get in DEBRA's line (not to even talk about having to stand there for 10 mintues because they wouldn't open another register), she told me that she had told Margo several times to get a VISA card that they just simply COULD NOT accept a military ID. So the poor bagger, who was nicer than anyone I encountered that day, had to take all the items out of her shopping bags that she provided and put them back on the shelves. I do not patronize places that discrimiate against disabled veterans....PERIOD! Kroger has not only lost her business from now on, but mine as well. I hope everyone who sees this review feels the same. The net worth of the CEO and VP of this company is in the millions. Great store, clean, bright, well atocked, open 24 hrs, great prices, helpful staff, great produce section, good selection of organic vegetables & fruits. They have a good number of working self-check out registers as well as registers with cashiers. The self- serve check out area always has a clerk nearby to help. The exterior has plants for sale in the Spring. This location has a pharmacy, as well as a gas station across the parking lot. You can order groceries online & use the Kroger App & set pick up time, $4.95 fee is waived for first 3 orders. Parking marked for pick up of orders. They have delivery service also. read more

I frequent here mostly because it is conveniently located to my work and home life but honestly wish it was replaced by a different chain. An Ingles would be ideal. This place has a long list of problems and they seem to keep adding new ones all the time. 1st of all there are no buggies conveniently located when you walk in and the entrances are absurdly located. This should be like grocery store 101. They keep adding new technology trends that make it almost insufferable to shop here. Like the 10 prime parking spaces that are reserved for pickup shoppers. They don't need that many spaces being used for this service. No one hardly ever uses them so they are literally just spaces thay could be used for the hardworking people of Johnson city. They just added like 8 more self registers which they already had 8. So there are literally 4x as many self serve registers as there are ones with actual grocers. Its like they don't want old people shopping here. I'm not old but I still find infuriating and it just goes to show that they care more about turning a profit than customer service. I only tend to come here to by snacks or small purchases. I would never in my right mind do my complete grocery shopping here, they seem to make that virtually impossible. They also have deals for your kroger card but then have bonus deals that you have to look up on their website on your phone. I was literally on my phone for 10 mins in the middle of the grocery store just so I could save 2$ on some frozen pizzas. Why you gotta do us like that Kroger? Shouldn't our card be enough? No we have to go through the hassle of being on our phone like we ain't on our phones enough as it is. Kroger name brand hot dog buns are the worse and I highly suggest you look carefully b4 you by them because almost always there is one that only half a one in the bag. What's up with that? I visited this location today(08/04/2020) around 8pm and was very disappointed in the way I was treated. I really don't like complaining because I understand it's hard out here for everyone but I feel I was profiled because of my race. I was not wearing a mask like many other employees and customers but I was the only person singled out and harassed. There was an older gentleman who worked in the pharmacy department for Kroger who walked across the entire store without a mask and did not put one on until he saw me being called out for not wearing a mask, as stated previously there were many other customers that did not have a mask on. My boyfriend called to speak with Summer or Sarah, the manger on duty at the time, she advised him that they have the right to refuse us service and just hung up on him after he told her we would be leaving a review of our experience. This Kroger on State of Franklin near ETSU is much better after the recent remodel. The grocery store has a deli, fresh baked goods, seafood and meat department and 24 hour pharmacy. Selection is broad and prices are fairly good across the board. There are always specials in the meat department so if you are a meat eater it is a good place to find meats for dinner or your crock pot creation. I would rate the produce section as very good - well stocked and attractive displays. There are plenty of selections although lacking in broad locally grown selections even in the peak summer time, There are a good variety of organic options as well although based on the press on what organic means I have my doubts on the added quality of some organic labeled produce so do your research. You have to sign up for the Kroger Plus card to get the deals offered in the store. They provide one for your key ring which is convenient. Just don't forget to have it scanned or you will pay substantially more. You get Kroger credit points for each dollar spent which you can use for your next gas fill-up at the Kroger gas pumps across the parking lot or many Shell stations around town. You need 100 points for 10 cents off a gallon and they only last for a month so you have to use them as you get them. Overall a nice place to shop that is well stocked and has good weekly specials. read more

Ehh, a decent Kroger. The one back home is a little larger and therefore isn't so cramped in the isles. The main disappointment is the poor manager's special meat selection. It may be boring, but it's a necessary weekly outing, so it's important to Wifey and me. Kroger Grocery Store, one of two in JC, this is the newer one. This one is our go-to store. It's right next to ETSU and the hospitals. They have a gas discount loyalty-card program that keeps me coming back because of the convenience of using it. This store is really clean, but the parking lot is getting to be a bit of a mess lately because of the other successful stores next to it. Produce, Deli, Bakery, Dairy, Canned goods, small florist kiosk, pharmacy, cold beer, frozen everything, they have all that. There's a growing organic and hippie-food section. The meat dept is solid, but they don't cut much meat on site. You won't have luck getting brisket year round, capons ever, tri-tip, or anything out of the very ordinary. They do get some good seafood on occasion and the store-brand items are really high quality. They have services like check cashing, Western Union, etc. Some books and magazines, this store is good about keeping plenty of checkout lanes open during peak hours. You can come and shop in the middle of the night, but you'll have to use the self checker-outer lanes. read more

First of all the lay out is very confusing. I had to ask customers for help. But the worst part was I did not know specials were tied to the Kroger card; no card, no special. I was surptrised my bill eas so high and commented at the check out. No one offered me a form to fill out to get a card. When I checked the bill later and saw I paid full price I called the manager. They refused to change the amount on my credit card bill without me coming in. I do not understand since all the information was in the thier computer and I had just been in the store. I love THIS Kroger store. Not only do they have great deals but the staff that works there are the best. I have never shopped anywhere where the staff goes out of their way to help me.
