Out of the Krogers I've been to in the areas, this is the better one. The general trend seems to be shelves not always being fully stocked. It's not any different here, though YRMV depending on the time of day. COVID update: they can do better. - There is hand sanitizer and a spray bottle with towels to disinfect your own cart. Better than nothing, but I think with the volume this store sees, they should have people manning this. I mean....come on, even Target has someone disinfecting carts! - Employees wearing masks are hit or miss. Most do, but I've seen adults wearing them incorrectly or not at all. Shameful. - No enforcing mask wearing. I saw some girl stumbling around like she was on something and no employees told her to put her mask on. - Social distancing is fine, but I go to self checkout and avoid everyone lol. Best Kroger in the area, like I said. It's cleaner, less chaotic, and the staff are generally nice. Still think there's more they can do, especially in the pandemic. read more

I was in Kroger because the APP offers Kroger pay. I did not want a lot of groceries. I was behind a gentleman with white hair who seemed to have lost his manners. He would not move forward in line and prevented me from placing my items up on the conveyor so that the register associate could scan and send them to a young man bagging groceries. The manager, let's call him Robert, was rude and judgmental. He was also not willing to help. The end result was my groceries cost about $45 and I was sent to customer service to use Kroger Pay. Worst grocery store ever. I was at Hand and Stone and decided to run in to buy a few things for dinner. I also saw watermelons were on sale so wanted to pick one up. First, the produce section smells and is clearly in need of a good cleaning. Anyway, I picked up a few things and noticed they didn't have any watermelons so I asked an associate who said I needed to talk to someone else. Saw a guy putting bananas out so I asked him if they had any in the back. He said I needed to ask another guy who was in the back. After standing there for a few minutes he said 'let me go ask him.' He came back and said they had watermelons but they couldn't bring them out until later. I asked if he could just get one for me he looked at me like I was crazy. I should've gone to Publix. They would have brought out 2 watermelons for me to choose from. Needless to say I won't be back to Kroger for anything. Ever. Period. read more

This is one of the nicer Krogers in the Richmond area, but they test my patience with each visit. 1. If there's a man working in produce when I visit, he's 100% guaranteed to creepily hit on me and "offer to help" when I clearly don't need any assistance and am actively trying to avoid him. 2. Getting shaved deli meat is like pulling teeth. Shaved means shaved. This is something that can easily be automated by machines one day, so this is one of the few areas in which I actually look forward to when technology advances to the point that the machines replace the workers. 3. They charge for bags here. 4. When they reorganized the store, they made many aisles noticeably more narrow. Very uncomfortable during busy hours. 5. Since I strongly dislike shopping during busy hours, I often shop late at night. Of course, the overnight shift is starting to restock the shelves, so there are usually large pallets blocking the products. One time, I literally had to run and chase down an associate pushing one of those thingys that they use to move the pallets. We were the only two people on a long aisle and I'm screaming trying to get his attention, but he ignored me until I caught up with him. (No, he wasn't wearing ear buds.) 6. I'm not one of those people who believe "the customer is always right," but I've noticed more and more businesses, not only showing less appreciation for their customers, but going so far as to blame them for the business's own mistakes and shortcomings. For example, I was shopping here two nights ago and they had Instant Pots on sale, further discounted with a digital coupon. I didn't notice that there were two different sizes on display: a 3-quart and a 6-quart, three of each on separate rows. I mistakenly grabbed a 6-quart and realized the error at the register because the digital coupon only applied to the 3-quart. I went back to grab the 3-quart and noticed the price sign for the 3-quart ONLY and no price for the 6-quart, so I believed they pulled this deceptive maneuver on purpose. It's not the first time a business has strategically done their product placement this way. Because the 6-quart exceeded $100, a manager had to approve the void on my transaction. Bob, who looks like the old man from the Pixar movie "Up" except the Luigi version (not Mario), slowly comes shuffling up to the register and asks what happened. I explained the mix-up and how both sizes were place together and even took accountability for not noticing, and he responded that a customer must've put the put the items out of place. Based on how many 6-quarts were there, I think the fk not, Bob. Why blame the customers? 7. Their food isn't always the freshest. I've had pomegranate seeds, Chilean sea bass, and other products spoil way before their expiration date. The store is usually clean and although it's not a Kroger Marketplace, it's quite large and expansive. I just wish they'd cut the crap sometimes. read more

I remember when the Short Pump Kroger first opened - you were met with welcoming employees and a grand piano playing. Those days are gone. Expect bad customer service, short-staffed departments, and long lines. Be careful to check expiration dates of prepared foods and carefully examine any produce you are seeking to buy. Occasionally they will set out produce which they should be embarrassed to sell to customers, and I wouldn't feed it to my goats. Kroger is a grocery store that I usually don't shop at because there are none in south FL. Visiting my sister for a couple of days, I ended up going with my family to pick up a few things. This is in Henrico county/Glen Allen area. This store is a great size, with tons of options to buy, it's extremely clean and well staffed store. Some items it took awhile to find since it's a new store that I had been to and some employees did not know where some things were. But not a big deal, we looked around and got everything we needed. We mostly got breakfast and snack items. Best parts of the store- Their bakery section is huge with lots of cakes, doughnuts, breads etc to choose from. They have deli area with a great menu for when you need a quick bite or meal. ~ read more

Kroger is a large supermarket chain that originates from Cincinnati - I've been to one years ago during undergrad, and I felt as if that particular location didn't really represent Kroger's in a way that this location did! They offer a selection in meat, produce, pantry items, frozen items, beer/wine/liquor, seafood, dairy and eggs, has a deli and a bakery section, and also a natural/organic items. Located off of Three Chopt Road in Henrico, the store was well-laid out, clean, and organized. The customer service staff were all friendly and helpful - don't forget to sign up for their rewards program! I found some Mexican Coca-Cola on sale (YAS!) and tried some of their maki rolls (they were just okay). Yet again- Kroger disappoints It's time to find another favorite store. I planned a family dinner for 8/28/2021. I shopped online with a 5:00 pm pick up. I love 35 minutes away so I arrived at 4:45. At 4:55, I received a text them that the delivery was pushed back to 7:30. I called the store and spoke with the assistant manager. His response- we are still working on the 4:00 pm orders. We can have ready for you tomorrow. Uh, no. I explain that I have a function and my dog was in the car so I couldn't self shop. All I heard was there's nothing I can do. We notified customers in advance. I asked if he thought a five minute notice was sufficient. Family dinner ruined. Got home at 6:00. Dropped dog off and had to order take out from the greasy Chinese restaurant. This in combination with the bakery lady blowing her nose with her gloves on then not washing hands or changing gloves is quite enough for me to look for another grocery store. read more

I only went for cat food and non-alcohol beer. Blinds to check out with a cashier were very long. The only other choice is self check out. This requires somebody to come over and authorize that you were over 21 years of age. They need to open more checkout lines with real people at them. This Kroger is a joke. I can't believe it's actually in short pump. When you walk in you feel like it's the lombardy Kroger. Stuff all over the floor, none of the shelves were stocked. I grabbed something with a tag that said "1.99" when I got to the register it didn't ring up as 1.99. I said that's okay just take it off. She seemed disturbed that I grabbed her from wiping down another register to come over, and mumbled something under her breath. I told her I wasn't going to argue and asked for a manager. When the manager came over she said "can't I just take my lunch break" I said that I was okay and never mind. I wont be shopping there anymore. Willow lawn is a much better location. I don't even have these problems at lombardy, at least the shelves are stocked there. read more

Beware of the "SALE" prices here. It's a Huge scam. I often get items that are on sale and recently noticed all the "sale" items did NOT ring up the advertised prices at the checkout. I had to get them to manually enter the sale prices. On a set of items, they did not honor because it was deceptively labeled. Their whole ploy is to get you to buy their almost expired items, label it with a eye-catching yellow sale sticker to buy it, and hopefully you didn't notice the regular price at the checkout. Kroger is one of the best grocery stores! Customer service is a priority, along with great quality food products, and the store is clean. Even the 'Kroger' brand products I have tried, are of very good quality...I have not tried everything. I can say so far, I have not been disappointed with store brand products and the fresh bakery items. - My favorite store brand item is the Kroger 'Private Selection' ice creams are delicious, still not inexpensive (but, competitive)...it contains mostly simple ingredients (never said it was a 'diet' food!). Another special thing Kroger does is buy select 'Ukrop's' brand products...that were very popular in their retail stores (they existed, for many years!). - If you ask my adult children (mid-twenties, now)...they would say the Ukrop's 'Rainbow Cookies' were the best and their favorite! - If you would like your Kroger store to consider buying an item that was sold at Ukrop's...just ask. I have been in this Kroger several times... It is a HUGE Grocery. I understand they carry well over 60 K items more than a typical Kroger Grocery store. It is a very clean store and I feel they have a little of something for everyone. They have Fresh Deli, Meats, Pastries, Seafood,Salads and much more... I feel when I walk to the other end of the store, I have walked several blocks. So, you need to go in here often in order to know where everything is... Trying to find help, is difficult at times, so you have to find someone to ask where is what? Even they at times, have NO idea. I hate the idea of walking back and forth several times to just find one or two items. They have items in this store which you typically do not see in a typical Kroger. The people working there are extremely nice. So, if you have not been to this Huge Kroger.... I suggest going. You may just find me there looking for something which I had forgotten on my previous trip. read more

THE PHARMACY on the other had....twice I've been told to come back later to pick up fairly crucial (blood pressure meds) prescriptions only to be told they were out of stock...once when I was going on a trip the next day. I know I should have planned better but all they had to do was tell me so I could go elsewhere-which I did. What can one say about the Kroger in Short Pump? Well...one can say they have NO ability to be punctual and no ABILITY to hold themselves accountable. Time and time again my wife orders our groceries online for pick up, selects her time, and leaves to go get everything she's ordered. Before she gets there, without fail, Kroger calls and apologizes profusely and says...you guessed it....we're running behind because we don't have staff. Please come back in several hours (if we're lucky) and we'll have your groceries ready. Kroger NEVER proactively offers anything for the EXTREMELY poor customer service or for the EXTREME inconvenience of having to drive 35-40 minutes one way to pick up groceries only to have to make the trip twice. Kroger clearly takes for granted their customer base. With gas being as expensive as it is, and groceries too for that matter, it's subpar and pathetic for a company as big as Kroger to effectively do nothing for the people that keep them in business (I.e. their customers). They could literally offer any number of things to help make this right - but they don't - unless asked. To add insult to injury, Kroger sent my wife a survey this evening about our latest experience. She spent about 10 minutes taking it and leaving valuable feedback. When she hit submit to send the results, I kid you not, an error message flashed up and said something to the effect of "we're experiencing technical difficulties please try again later." This seems to sum up this Kroger's position on basically everything - we're having difficulties, please try again later! read more

Again with fuel points issues! I have had so many problems redeeming fuel points recently at numerous locations on numerous visits. The program is great in theory, but it seems like a bait and switch scheme in practice. It is virtually impossible to get assistance. We have a Kroger credit card with US Bank for extra savings, but both places point the finger at each other when I contact them for help. The Kroger in Short Pump is my mostly go-to shop for groceries. There are some things I love about it, but also some areas of improvement that would be nice to see: - Everyone here is so nice, from the Deli counter to the check out line, people are always asking how they can help you. I do, however, get a little annoyed at the Deli counter. Like I said, they are really nice so it isn't directed at the staff. They are always willing to let you try something new, but that sometimes makes it hard for the multitude of other people waiting in line. I've just made it a habit to check out the pre-sliced deli meat stand before going over in case the things there will meet my needs. I'm not really sure how best to fix this problem, short of having more people behind the counter. Or perhaps I need to start using the kiosk. - Love the Olive/Cheese bar; admittedly, I did not like when they remarketed the cheese section because they got rid of some of my favorite cheese that were not carried by the same company, but I found them at other stores. A bit of an inconvenience, but overall not a huge deal. - The sushi is great for grocery store sushi; you really can't have high expectations here because fresh sushi from a Japanese or sushi only restaurant is the best way to go, but for a quick and cheaper option, Kroger's selection of sushi is actually pretty good. - The organic/natural section is great, and seems to keep growing. I think it will continue to get even larger as the health food trend grows. Sometimes I have to find specific items at Whole Foods, but its getting more rare, which is nice. - I do hate that it always seems like I find something there that I love, and then within a few weeks, they don't carry it anymore. For example, Kroger used to always carry raw chicken sausage, and then suddenly stopped. Or specific kinds of cheeses. It may still be carried at the Kroger in Willow Lawn but will not be in Short Pump, which I think is strange. I wish I better understood the process of how they determined what to remove from their shelves because its a bummer sometimes. - The Pharmacy is GREAT. Seriously, I love everyone there. I quickly moved ALL my scripts to them because they were so amazing. It didn't even bother me that they are a little smaller than places like Walgreens or CVS. They are significantly nicer, and are better organized. And they never hesitate to give you fuel points. I mean it, if I ever have to wait for some reason, they always give me fuel points for my trouble, even though I don't complain at all. Its just a great customer service model. Yes, they may need an extra day to place an order for more rare medicines that they don't stock, but its really not usually a big deal. And in the few cases where you need a medicine right away, they have made a call to my doctor before I have even arrived to let them know they don't have the medicine in stock and to see if there is something else that should be prescribed. - Overall they have great produce, BUT if I want something slightly "off the wall" like escarole or broccoli rabe, I can rarely find it here. I can usually find it at Martins. Again, just the inconvenience of having to go to multiple stores. read more

Shopping here for years...customer service is bad. Got home to find I had a ghost charge of $38.49. Obviously I had to go back to the store. Nobody on the phone seemed to care. When I arrived, Customer Service said they didn't know what it was, and just stared at me. I said I don't know either, and that I don't care, but I'm not paying for it. She got snooty and said she needed to know what it was so she could refund it properly. Finally, the 'manager' showed up. After researching the video for 5 minutes, he asked me if I bought a lemon. A lemon. Yes, I said, He said that the lemon was wrung up incorrectly, and offered a half-hearted apology. Wegman's can't get here soon enough. read more

Love this Kroger. They have a really good selection of produce compared to other Krogers in the area. The organic and health food section is the best I've seen outside of as Whole Foods or Trader Joes. My favorite part is the beer and wine section. I like that it functions as a mini wine bar where you can taste different wines you may not otherwise buy. My only problem is the guy who normally works there is a bit of a snob. I don't mean your normal wine snob ala Paul Giamatti in Sideways. I mean an actual snob where he thinks he's too good to help certain people unless you plan on buying the most expensive bottle there. Every time we go, there's always people he knows personally sitting in the bar area and he's always too busy socializing to help paying customers. This isn't necessarily a bad reflection on the store itself but it's just something to keep in mind if you were looking to visit the wine bar. I greatly prefer this Kroger to others but it's farther from my house than the one we normally shop at. The only time we shop here is when we happen to be in the Short Pump area so it's a treat whenever we can come here. read more

I will say... today was the first time I have received completely 100% rude service from a associate at a retail store. I went into the store to specifically purchase a Ukrop's cake for my husbands birthday. Ellen in the bakery is one of the rudest people I have ever met! I tried to show her that the cake I wanted to purchase was clearly in a $9.99 sticker price spot. When she proceeded to very rudely cut me off saying "No, no absolutely no markdowns!". So I ask to speak to a manager about it. After waiting approximately 10 mins for a manager to respond. The bakery phone rings... The manager has apparently given her the go ahead to sell it at the $9.99 sticker price. Because she walks around the counter and literally snatches the cake I would like to buy. I then ask her if I could please have a message written on the cake. She snaps back at me "No!". Which really caught me off guard. But then she asks me what I would like written on it. I finish getting the other item I needed from the store and I head right to customer service where I ask to personally speak to the manager. Tommy comes to greet me, and I explain everything that happened. He was extremely helpful and nice. The only positive experience in the store at this point. I can honestly say that I or my family will not be returning to this store after today. Ellen should really work on her customer service skills! read more

As far a grocery stores go, it is fine. You will find what you need. However, don't expect much customer service. The last time I went I was bagging my own groceries, to save time. An employee appeared to help, he asked the cashier to help bag. The cashier's response was: "That's not my job." Uh...actually, it is your job! I was so shocked I didn't react at the time. Later sent an e-mail through the corporate website relating my experience. Reply said the local store would reach out to me, heard nothing. Why aren't you paying real people wages? Did you know that there was a report that over 40% of your nation wide employees work UNDER the poverty line? No wonder you can't hire anyone. Adding longer self check outlines isn't your answer. Hiring capable employees that you pay well, is your answer. You can send me all the coupons you like, I will not be coming back to this store. With so many grocery options, this one is the worst and you should take your business elsewhere. This store is ridiculous. I've tried talking to customer service, nothing changes. I shop this store at least three times a month. Selection is excellent, staff is very helpful, and now that Ukrop's full line of products have been added, it is getting close to perfect. Their salad bar and hot food bar prices are extremely reasonable and you can sit adjacent to the in- store Starbucks for a nice meal. Their wine selection is very good as is their floral department and pharmacy I also enjoy seeing their ever changing inventory of seasonal items that are non- food related. They added a gas station last year which is also very convenient for using up your Kroger has points. read more

This Kroger shops like a Whole Foods with Kroger prices. For real. Like I legitimately wish I could give this Kroger a few more stars because the prices are reasonable and the selection of goods feel well-curated. I genuinely enjoy shopping at this Kroger and it surprises me every time because it's just not the kind of experience I associate with Kroger. Highs: - Murray's Cheese - 5 stars alone, the cheese counter is an absolute steal, especially if you can get them 50% off ($3 for Robiola Bosina, young manchego, and more!). I have dreamed about buying into Murray's Cheese Club but at $60 a month and no choice in selection I was hesitant. Well there's no need anymore. For $20 a month I can choose whatever cheese I want and create a fabulous tasting board. I was also shocked to see them giving out generous samples of Humboldt Fog - a 2x2 in cube retails for $6! I can't stop gushing. They have real buffalo mozzarella and burrata (which is difficult to find), mascarpone, and creme fraiche from Vermont Creamery. I've even garnered the courage to try cheese I otherwise wouldn't have (stinkies and blues) and was pleasantly surprised, though I'd go far and in between. It's just surreal and awesome to see expensive cheese at murrayscheese.com and completely tasting-sized and affordable at the Kroger here. YISSSSS. - customer service - INSANELY good. If I even look confused for 30seconds, someone is smiling and asking what they can help me to make a decision. It's weird and awesome. I've been asked if I'd like to be walked out and helped with my groceries. Even the baggers seem sincere and care that I had a great experience. - artisanal and local items - what comes to mind first is the local milk bottled from somewhere in Virginina, and ice creams shipped from as far away as California (like Coolhaus)! - natural foods selection - pricey so I never come around here, but a steal if you can catch items half off. - Store is super clean and spotless - which is very unlike many Krogers I've been to. Lows: - The alcohol is $1-3 pricier than other places I've seen, so I usually avoid buying here. - For some reason the salad section is double the cost of other places, and the salads that do go on sale usually doesn't look fit for consumption. Like mold and sewage kind of unfit. Why do they even continue selling it? This makes me angry - just toss it out. - Stock is kind of wonky at times because the sheer number of people that shop here.
