I just wanted to comment about a long time employee by the name of Mr.Ed. I just found out he passed away about 3 weeks ago. It crushed my heart when I seen an obituary of him as soon as you walk inside the store. Mr. Ed was my buddy he was so kind with a genuine soul, I saw him every morning. When he told me about certain types of herbs that help's with pain. Mr. Ed talked about his big family all the time. It's one of the reasons why when I hadn't seen him for a while, maybe he was hanging with family. I would have never thought he was dead. He made I big impact on me and he will truly be missed! read more

I'd never seen a market quite like this before. It's not a big brand grocer, serves a neighborhood that doesn't seem to have one, and offers both a range of conventional products with a decent selection of higher end and niche food items, but also a hot food outlet geared towards southern culture. The crowd very much seemed to be coming out of church services. I found several useful items in a store that was clean, well maintained. It would be on the smaller end for a major grocer, but it's bigger than most specialty food markets. I'm glad it's there. I wish there were more places like it. read more

Wine tastings of bubbly rosés, fresh caught scallops, and shelves overflowing with rapini, Hokkaido pumpkins, and bok choy could not have been found in the East End just a year ago. For shoppers at the newly opened Market at 25th, such luxuries are becoming commonplace. As we wandered through aisles named after East End churches, teeming with tons of products sourced from the greater Richmond region, the Market's desire to make itself approachable to existing residents was almost palpable. The dozens of families packing their carts full on a Friday afternoon seemed to indicate all is going according to plan: for the first time in years, East End residents have access to healthy, affordable groceries at a full-service supermarket. Our conversational cashier concurred; after some initial growing pains and price adjustments, business has been booming. Boxed, canned, and packaged items may be slightly more expensive here, but that's only because the Market passes the savings on to consumers in the fresh produce, dairy, and meat products. Trying to incentivize healthy eating, all the fresh goods around the edge of the store are cheaper than normal. The hot bar and locally sourced finished foods are fantastic and such a bargain! I regularly swing in to grab dinner here. $6.99 for two proteins, two sides, and a cornbread is a STEAL! The fact that all of it is cooked according to Mama J's standards means it's all guaranteed to be delicious! read more

I'd almost forgotten that this store was nearby. I'm extremely happy with the service I received and they had everything I needed. Ordering online was easy and you can get your things the next day. Everything was packed neatly and arrived intact and fresh. They use Doordash for deliveries. My only criticism would be that their Rosie app allow the tip to be adjusted after delivery. They have locally produced merch and a Pharmacy onsite. Highly recommend! read more

Finally!!!! Finally, this area has been relieved of the food desert label, thanks to this awesome market. The people who work here are amazing, friendly, and extremely helpful. I love that there are so many locally owned small businesses represented and included in the market. I've shopped here 3 times since they've opened.I don't live closely, but idi'm in the area, I try to make a stop. I love the variety of foods they have.m Some of the items they have, I can't find at other big chain stores. The hot bar looks good, however, my son did buy a baggie of chicken wingettes that weren't too fresh. You can tell they had been sitting out on the warmer awhile. They carry lots of local items, which I love. The employees are super helpful, they can tell when you can't find something and immediately point you in the right direction. Finally! A grocery store in Church Hill. It's astounding to me that it has taken this long to hydrate this food desert. I can't believe that residents in the area have not had access to real, fresh foods. Enough dwelling about the past. In the here and now, The Market At 25th exists and they pulled out all the stops to do it right. I love the emphasis on local. Brewer's Cafe churning out incredible drinks, Mama J's food, and shelves selling awesome goodies from local vendors. The prices are comparable to other stores around, it looks great, the aisles are named after Church Hill churches, the pharmacy is the first black woman owned pharmacy in RVA, they have a Lyft lounge for customers to wait for their rides after shopping. I mean, everything is extremely well thought out and incredible looking. I wish them all the best success and I'm excited to continue shopping here for years to come! read more

Absolutely 5 star customer service. And I have always been able to find everything I've needed regarding groceries. But, the real reason for my 5 stars is prepared food section. So far I've had both the baked chicken, baked fish, macaroni and cheese, GREENS, green beans, and corn bread. Everything has been 100% ON POINT 100% of the time. I'm telling you, the greens are the best greens I've ever put in my mouth. And everything else was perfect. If I DID complain, it would only be about foam to-go containers and how environmentally irresponsible they are but I imagine the choices are limited. It would be great if we could bring our own containers or had some sort of reuse program. Definitely check it out! read more

This grocery store is truly spectacular and it's definitely taken long enough to finally get a grocery store in Church Hill. The Market at 25th is always extremely clean, the employees are friendly, and the selection varies from local vendors to generic brands at low costs. I will say though that some items I thought would be easily found here were not. For example, I wasn't able to find veggie broth or creole seasoning. My favorite thing about the new grocery store is that the hot food bar is stocked by Mama J's - if you haven't been you should! It's some of the best southern food in Richmond! read more

I just went there for the first time and I'm so glad I did! All the staff were really helpful and friendly. It felt like a real "neighborhood market" but they still have everything you need! I've been living in Churchill for 10 years now! We've never had a grocery store with fresh produce, fresh food or a sense of pride going there. I'm so very happy that this store was a long time coming. The prices are comparable to those of a Kroger or something. I love that all of their products have came somewhere in VA. I've visited the market a few times now. Ive never had any issues before today. I usually get pleasant hellos and how may we help you find something. Today was no different until it was time for me to check out. Im checking out in the self checkout. As I'm checking out the cashier literally walks from on side of the self checkout to right behind me basically breathing down my neck watching me scan each item I had. I never felt more like a criminal in my life and I was only trying to buy some ice cream. I turned around and returned everything because of the way she made me feel. I am a senior and like so many others, are ecstatic over the variet of yesteryear items thats never found in the other stores... for instant I use the hog jowls for cooking greens and lima beans etc. like my Mom use to make..I even found black strap mollasses.. that my dad always used making his signature smoked glaze for ham, bacon and smoke turkey wings... Not to forget the employees-- the ladies and gents that was working in the front was so willing to help me take my groc out to the bus. Very polite and it made me want to tell everyone about my first exsperienc. I dont live in Churchill but I definately want to shop there over and over..Thank You Market @ 25th.. you stepped up and gave us what we as seniors and other folks needed.. read more

I wrote a wonderful review of this market 2 years and gave them 5 stars. Unfortunately, it seems some things have changed. I used to love how friendly and helpful the staff was, but they don't seem to be concerned with that anymore. The last several times I've been there, I haven't even received an acknowledgment from the cashier, let alone anything nice and courteous. It's all attitude and sneers now, as though the customer is an interloper for coming in to the store and making them work. It's really too bad, because it is a really nice store and so convenient...but who needs to spent money where you're treated like an inconvenience? There are other stores in the area. read more
