We have come to this restaurant before in the past and had good experiences. We last came in September on my birthday and I did not have the best experience so I said hey maybe it was a fluke. We came for our anniversary on a Tuesday night. We made reservations and arrived and got seated. At first, everything was great. The server came and got our drinks and bread right away and asked what we wanted for the app. We put two apps in and when he came back with the drinks we put the pasta in. We asked for more bread and he said he will bring it. This is where it went wrong. About 10 minutes later he passed us to go to his table behind us and said oh yeah the bread Im getting that and your refilled drinks. After that we did not see this guy for almost the remainder of the service. We ate the apps and then still no drinks. We waited for him to come back in this cornered area and did not see him. The manager brought the pasta and they forgot the chicken for my husband. He got us refills and my husband told Him and he said "well I can put in an order and then you can just add it to the pasta". He brought the chicken out 14 minutes later and his pasta was cold. He had waited to eat it. Still no server or bread. Finally the waitress that was in that area asked us if we needed anything. I told her we were waiting for the read for a long time and that we havent seen the waiter since he took our order. He never came when the food came. Just as we said that he walked over and said oh Im getting the bread. They said the bread was taking a while. As he said that, the manager brought the table next to us some bread. Then the waitress brought some for her new table. We waited again. She ended up giving us her bread and then got new bred. He finally came with the bill and said oh did you want dessert? We obviously didn't as we didn't even see him the whole time. He took forever to bring us the change. This is the second time that the service has not been great. The food is great and tastes great. The restaurant is nice and clean and I like the atmosphere. I just feel like paying $72 for this service wasn't great. read more

We have been to this restaurant Many times over years but it had been a minute. We requested to be seated in front side section which is a little quieter. Our server was friendly and attentive. Their signature bread was hot and delicious. We tried the Costa Rican fish and Chicken Marsala. First the green beans were delicious. I really hate it when the veggie side dish is mushy, an after thought or a medley. Portion size good and marsala sauce was yummy. My husband enjoyed his fish. I got their special midnight martini and they shake/mix and pour at your table. Taste and presentation good. My husband got an old fashioned and while it tasted good, zero presentation. The smores cheesecake was delicious and after dinner coffee hot and strong so I was happy! Overall lovely evening. read more

As soon as you walk through the door, this place has a very romantic ambience. The lobster and shrimp Alfredo was one of the best pasta dishes I have ever eaten! The food was exceptional, and the service matched that. We even had funny conversations with our server based on the messages we wrote on the table, which was fun! I was a very lucky customer to be invited to dinner at this restaurant by a kind supplier President during the holiday season which included two guests visiting from India, and another from Indiana on business. Downtown Rochester was outstanding with the many colorful lights and the dining area was very quaint and inviting with interesting items on the walls. I had the chargrilled Norwegian salmon, rice, and green beans. The fish was prepared perfectly and I enjoyed the crispness of the green beans. We all enjoyed tasty desserts which was a bonus. The bread pudding with caramel topping was delicious. Viviana was a very kind and patient server as parking can be a challenge in downtown and we arrived in 4 groups. We have gone here for years. We were in the area this evening and stopped for dinner. I was very disappointed with everything. The menu is not the same and the quality of food has went down hill. They used to offer soup or salad with meals and they no longer do that. Plus it is pricey. This is the second time in a row this has happened. What a complete disaster! I already can imagine if the owner and/manager reads this, they are already going to side with the kitchen staff because there is no way any respectable establishment would allow this to happen. I let the server know I cannot eat dairy. I fully acknowledge my options are going to be limited - I am used to it. I go in knowing my meal is going to be different than described and I am fine with it because I truly cannot eat dairy (it's not one of these "oh I can't eat gluten" and then they eat two loaves of bread). But the bar was low and Kruse & Muer managed to fail miserably! I am probably going to get her name wrong - possibly Milia, did go talk with the chef to see what recommendation and came back with a few options (surprisingly, none with fish without the creamy cheese sauces). I decided that the twin filets with the Marsala sauce sounded good cuz I love mushrooms and I swapped out the "buttery mashed potatoes" with green beans. My entree arrived as the most boring looking meal. Two small filets and a pile of green beans. No Marsala sauce. The server could see I was irked and talked to the chef. The "chef" couldn't/wouldn't make the Marsala sauce after all with no dairy (server said "could not" but I say "would not" as I get Marsala out a lot and that's never been an issue before plus I make it at home at least once a month). Server came back with an aus jous sauce for me. Better than nothing but it just felt the chef was damn lazy. Mushrooms could not have been sautéed in a little oil to make up for no Marsala sauce? I talked to manager and she did bring some mushrooms out. Clearly the chef was peeved cuz these mushrooms were cooked about 50/50 mushroom and garlic...garlic that was not even cooked down...just about raw. I am not asking for much here folks but if you tell me you can make something dairy-free, don't cop out and give me a boring meal and then slap stuff together cuz you can't do what you promised. Oh, and the green bean swap on the potatoes, not a single grain of salt passed their way. Plain green beans. It really does not matter that my husband thought his meal was great because we won't ever be back. He picked this restaurant for my birthday weekend and 12 hours later he still regrets his decision so we are going elsewhere tonight. read more

Kruse and Muer is a local chain serving up American dishes and specializing in Italian, Steaks, Seafood and Charley's Chowder! I enjoyed a relaxed, dining experience here at Kruse and Muer for My SpecialK Birthday on Sunday, 9/17/2023. The restaurant Ambiance along with comfortable seating and soft music set the celebration. The efficient service from waiter Cameron was on point with special attention to Me and My family while dining for a couple of hours. The cocktails, Complimentary soft warm seasoned baguette bread paired well with our delicious house salads and Charley's Chowder. My main entree Maryland Crab Cakes were very tasty and broiled to perfection with Red Rice Pilaf and Green Beans My favorite! :-) Photos attached as well! Everyone in My family party enjoyed their dinners too from Charley's Chowder, Seafood Lobster Fettuccine, Seafood Panroast # and Grilled Chicken Fettuccine. We have dined here for years on our anniversary. Have not been back since 2018. WAY over priced and the quality went way downhill! Imagine paying $35 for a dinner of lobster and shrimp and they serve tiny salad shrimp and some nasty lobster ground up? Used to be a dish to be proud of with actual large lobster pieces, saffron cream, and XXL shrimp. What happened? The Maryland Chicken was no better, canned crab, dry chicken and no sauce with bland rice? What a disappointment! Our total bill was $151 for two people. Three drinks, two dinners and one dessert and the quality would have been better at Knapps across the street. Really sad that this landmark, once wonderful restaurant is a place we will never visit again. read more

The food was very good as usual. I reviewed K&M before because we like them so much and have been coming here for over 30 years. I met 2 friends there to celebrate the holidays and a retirement. We were seated in the booths at the front of the restaurant. Our waiter was slow to greet us and gave us very little attention. Once our food arrived he completely forgot about us. I specifically asked for bread to be served when our salad entrees arrived. That never happened. Never came back to see if we wanted another glass of wine or anything. We finally had to ask another waiter to find him and bring us our check. The service was very disappointing. Sometimes it's spotty and I don't let it bother me, but today was unacceptable. read more

Well let's start with the service- Ryan was the best server! Amazingly attentive, made good suggestions, took our feedback well. He was spectacular! Now- let's start with the reason we are getting a three star rating: Calamari appetizer was solid-4 stars, 2-3 minutes on the cook time almost beat our drinks to the table. Cocktails good but slow. Then the water- we had to ASK for water! Are you kidding me? We get bread and butter and cocktails but I am waiting.... Where is the water? Is this supposed to be fine dining? No water? Finally, I have to ASK for water. Definitely a deduction. Martha's Vineyard salad - okay I've been eating at Joe restaurants for years- what happened to the dried cherries? Seriously? Gone? And the salad was wilted. It was prepped in the dressing and just set on a shelf. Blah- awful. Entree- the shrimp, scallops, was great ironically my food had pilaf, my friend had pasta. Same sauce, same fruits of the sea, just a different carb. Okay not super original but the flavors were great! Finale- mousse- oh now nice job pastry kitchen well played! So it was a great evening- but I am massively peeved about the salad and water. Still crazy about the atmosphere and place. But come on! Don't cut corners on the things that matter. read more

Crowded spot on an early Sunday evening (6:30), probably because of the holiday light show bringing people to town. We were seated within about 10 minutes of our reservation. The waiter was attentive and fast to get to our table. We didn't touch the free loaf of bread, but it smelled good. My 9oz pour of white wine was nearly to the rim of the glass. They should have larger stemware. Our entrees came out quickly (almost too quickly) after we ordered. The specials were good, but not outstanding. Flavors on a salmon diablo should probably be sharper. The textures on the dish also were missing some crispiness. read more

I will not go again. I called for. Reservations for our 47th anniversary. I told them when we called it was our anniversary and that we would like a table near the window or a private booth. We came 20 minutes before our reservation. We had come many times to the restaurant - especially during holidays.... The atmosphere and food had always been high quality; however, this time was a complete disappointment. I was expecting to be placed somewhere near the front of the restaurant, as requested, since the tables are smaller, but instead we were directed towards the back of the restaurant where it seemed holiday get-togethers were placed. As we walked to a back room you could hear the decibel level increase tremendously. Before we had even sat down - we were told we were only allowed 2 hours max. Okay... we don't take long to eat. I tried to have a conversation with my husband, but neither of us could hear each other. The room was nicely decorated but the tiled ceiling increased the cacophony of voices and reverberated around us. I asked the waitress if we could be moved to somewhere less noisy but was told this is how it was for the Holidays. Since the noice level went up as we moved further into the restaurant- I knew this wasn't true. We have visited several high end restaurants during our 47 years, but never was I treated like "hey, eat ... then get out" We couldn't converse or enjoy our food so I consequently lost my appetite. We've enjoyed Kruse & Muer for many years because you could always count on having a delicious meal. Our last few visits have been disappointing. The food quality has gone way down hill. The fish has been especially sad. It's not fresh or well cooked. Even the sides are just meh. The location is fantastic, the ambiance is great, the service is very good, sadly the prices are high and the food is mediocre at best. Back to Kruse and Muer. You can consistently enjoy a nice dinner here. We ordered wine and a lemon drop martini which had quality and quantity. I ordered a pasta primavera with shrimp - good but not as good as last time I ordered. It had less cherries, almonds and vegetables but still tasty with enough shrimp. The perch dinner was a favorite dinner ordered multiple times in the past and still a favorite. And another dinner ordered was off the summer menu - shrimp and lobster cakes and was delicious. Dessert was the cream puff hot fudge sundae which was a little disappointing as there was hardly any ice cream but still good. Note it is served with dark chocolate not the usual milk chocolate. Noticed their new dishes - like the upgrade, keeping it fresh and updated. Love sitting in the front area with natural lighting and view of Main Street. read more

We eat here fairly often but tonight our experience was excellent. Our waiter, Tate, was friendly, accommodating and attentive. The bread came to our table immediately and was hot and not greasy at all. We both ordered fish and our meals were delicious. We were seated in the little front alcove off the bar and we appreciated that it was quiet and out of the way. We will definitely be back soon. read more

UNDERWHELMED. I was expecting so much better of an experience! It was jam-packed like a can of sardines so the atmosphere doesn't lie. We had a larger bachelorette party of 16 and of course, obviously had reservations on a Friday night. 6:30 pm. Arrived 15 minutes early and they had NO CLUE about this. Then the bride-to-be and MOH arrived--nothing. Slowly the rest of the party started arriving and it got to a point where we were a hazard standing by the door where the waiters and waitresses were trying to carry trays of food around us ...30 MINUTES LATER... they started clearing space for us. While 16 of us were standing around being in the way, we were able to finally make our single-file soldier-line to the table after 45 minutes. They have a much younger staff so maybe pin it on inexperience? Anyways, on to dinner and other details. Our waiter saved the day. Brian was a rockstar knowing the menu and serving us all with patience and a friendly face. Took a great photo of all of us too! There are crayons for kids (or childish adults like myself!) to draw on the paper table coverings. The decor has a very classy pub vibe. LOVE that it's a family-owned establishment. Parking was easy since there is a structure a block away. The food, however, eh. I had the seafood gumbo soup and perch dinner. Good but not worth the price. Other gals at the table ordered the chicken tortellini pasta that seemed like the crowd-pleaser. The bread was good too. Overall OK experience after we actually got a table but NEVER come here with a large party (more than 6). I wouldn't be opposed to trying their crab cakes, pasta dishes, or pizzas in the future but certainly not seeking my next visit either. read more

Sunday afternoon and were sat up in the front room. The room went from being super cold to overly stuffy and back and forth. I found the room to be dirty. Definitely needed a deep cleaning. My menu was filthy. Our server was pretty good. I ordered a simple kettle one and club soda, short. It came out in a tall glass and the soda was flat. I ordered the tortellini with chicken and a side house salad. The salad was pretty sad. Some lettuce was brown. Main dish was ok except the chicken was super chewy.
