Some repair bills are even added to your account without notice! Staff is condescending and passive aggressive often unprovoked (yes I have screenshots of this). They literally have in their contact something about "being respectful" in communication with them. Here's the thing. If it's gotten bad enough to add it to the lease, it's happened multiple times. If it's happened multiple times, that's a good indication that YOU ARE THE ISSUE. Not to mention, respect is subjective and often mistaken to mean obey authority without question. Also, since I suspect this is the reason it was added- people are allowed to be frustrated and angry when they get duped and taken advantage of. You do not get to take advantage of people and then tell them how to respond to it, or not respond to it. Take some accountability. We didn't think to look at reviews before we rented our place. We could've saved so much money if we did. Like thousands of dollars. Most companies have a part in the contract that says tenants can't get their own repair company/person, it must come from them. This is to prevent people from hiring shady workers, BUT this company is the opposite. Almost every contractor is a one person company, which is fine except most either didn't fully fix the repair or took forever, if it even got fixed at all. And why do they do this you might ask? Because "maintenance" simply adds on a band aid until whatever it is inevitably breaks and then it becomes the tenant's financial responsibility. And god forbid it breaks outside their office hours. Worst title company EVER! My company had the misfortune of using Capital Title/Tim McWilliams in…read moreMcKinney, TX to handle the closing on the sale of a commercial lot in McKinney for $700k.  The closing was scheduled for February 7, 2024.  The buyer provided all of their funds and signed all documents.  I signed all the documents on behalf of my company. Mr. McWilliams/Capital Title signed all documents and notarized them. Therefore, closing was complete ... and my company awaited its money.  Mr. McWilliams said the funds would be wired on February 8th. On February 8, 2024, Mr. McWilliams said he needed to see my divorce decree because he thought there was a lien on the commercial lot.  I said there was not a lien, my company owned the lot, and the company was not even a party to the divorce proceedings.  He contacted my ex-husband and he obtained a copy of the decree. He then decided my ex-husband had a lien on the property and Capital Title DID NOT disburse ANY of the funds to my company and Capital Title DID NOT record the signed and notarized warranty deed for the buyers in the Collin County property records.  The seller sued my company and Capital Title.  Then a month after closing, the court of appeals decided that the decree did not create any lien but the closing was still not recorded and my company received no funds.  My company sued Capital Title.  My ex-husband intervened with his false claims.   My company won a summary judgment against my ex-husband, wherein the Judge ruled that there was no lien. My company has yet to complete its suit against Capital Title.   The buyer claims that they want to use a different title company and I do too ... and for some unknown reason the buyers have left almost $183k in escrow with McWilliams/Capital Title.  From my understanding and review of the escrow transactions, the buyer's lender, Valliance Bank, was able to request their $525k be returned to the bank, and Capital Title returned it poste-haste on February 16, 2024, eight days after Capital Title did not perform their end of the transaction. I think a reasonable person would construe that as an admission that Capital Title no longer viewed the contract as valid. The buyers and my company have requested that Capital Title return the buyer's $182,858.04 so that the buyers and my company can enter a new contract and close with a different title company. Unlike Valliance Bank's request, Capital Title is maintaining they cannot return the buyer's money unless and until both parties provide a release of all claims ... INCLUDING a release of all claims against Capital Title, which will terminate the agreement wherein the only party that did not perform ... was Capital Title. WOW! How shady can a company be?  I think my company has a valid complaint against Capital Title and my company has real damages as a result of Capital Title's interference in the closing for NO GOOD REASON because they began looking into a false claim AFTER closing was complete when their only job AFTER all documents were signed and the money was delivered was to disburse the money and record the deed. IN FACT, Tim McWilliams signed the settlement statement as the Settlement Agent under the Settlement Agent Certification which states: "The HUD-1 Settlement Statement which I have prepared is a true and accurate account of this transaction. I have caused the funds to be disbursed in accordance with this statement." Then it has Tim McWilliams signature and a date of 2/7/24. Then it states specifically under his signature as though it is intended to warn the Settlement Agent ... "Warning: It is a crime to knowingly make false statements to the United States on this or any other similar form. Penalties upon conviction can include a fine and imprisonment. For details see: Title 18 US Code Section 1001 and Section 1010." See attached image. Tim McWilliams did not cause the $651,679.15 to be disbursed to my company, ergo the Settlement Statement is FALSE ... ergo Tim McWilliams should be fined and imprisoned in my opinion. I have filed a complaint against Capital Title/McWilliams with American Land Title Association and I provided them the certified/signed/notarized closing documents, the order from the motion for summary judgment confirming there was no lien, and the escrow statement showing the funds were recieved and after closing failed due to Capital Title failing to record the warranty deed and transfer the proceeds ... Capital Title retained almost $183k of the buyers money which IN MY OPINION ... they are holding ransom to force my company to drop the suit against them. DO NOT USE CAPITAL TITLE. THEY ARE AWFUL AND HAVE CAUSED ME A LOT OF DAMAGES.

I am incredibly disappointed in Highland Homes and how our family has been treated. We put down a…read more$30,000 deposit in good faith, fully intending to build our home. Life circumstances changed unexpectedly, and we found ourselves needing to reconsider our plans. We aren't walking away because we casually changed our minds... we are a young family dealing with circumstances we never anticipated. Yet Highland Homes is refusing to return any portion of our $30,000. What is so difficult to understand is that the home can still be sold to another buyer. Highland Homes gets to keep our $30,000 AND ultimately sell the home. How is that not effectively double dipping? Thirty thousand dollars is not insignificant to a family. People lose jobs. Families have emergencies. People have to relocate. Life happens. For a company that speaks so proudly about family and "family values," I am deeply saddened by the complete lack of compassion or willingness to work with us. There should be a reasonable solution that doesn't involve a builder keeping $30,000 from a family and then going on to sell the home anyway. It feels predatory. It feels wrong. And frankly, it feels like we're being punished financially for having circumstances change beyond what we anticipated. We tried to handle this privately. We asked for help. We escalated it and hoped someone within the company would look at our situation like a human being rather than simply pointing to a contract. Instead, the answer remains: Highland Homes keeps our $30,000. I think other families considering building with Highland Homes deserve to know that this is how our family was treated before they hand over a large deposit of their own. I purchased a Highland Homes new build, completed in 2023. Within under 2 years, the front door…read morebegan to crack, split, and leak a thick, sticky, sap-like material on the exterior side -- clearly not normal for a new home. I had multiple professional door contractors inspect it, and they all confirmed the same thing: the door was not properly sealed or finished at the factory, and was deteriorating due to a manufacturer defect, not homeowner neglect. The home had only been lived in for about 16 months, and there is no scenario where a properly constructed and sealed exterior door fails like this so quickly. So I submitted a warranty request to Highland Homes. Their first response was to deny responsibility, claiming "no routine door maintenance" had been performed -- which is both inaccurate and irrelevant when the failure is due to poor manufacturing. Most exterior doors don't require routine maintenance this early, especially when factory-finished. I then requested a second opinion and took more time off work for an in-person inspection with Highland's warranty rep, Brad. When he arrived, he didn't even inspect the door -- instead, he told me they couldn't help because the home's warranty had not been transferred to me when I bought the house as a second owner. Frustrated but willing to work with them, I asked: "If I go through the process of getting the warranty transferred properly, can you then help?" Brad clearly said yes, and that as long as the warranty was transferred before the August 30, 2025 expiration, I'd be covered. So I jumped through every hoop -- contacting the seller, the real estate agent, and the warranty company to get the transfer completed. I wasted significant time and energy, only to be told after the fact that Brad had changed his story and now claims this is a "homeowner-resolved issue only." So which is it? What's worse is that this entire conversation -- where Brad confirmed help would be available after a successful transfer -- was recorded on my Ring doorbell camera. It proves everything I've stated here. At this point, I feel misled and completely disrespected. This experience was not only unprofessional, it was deceptive, and shows how Highland Homes shifts responsibility and makes empty promises to avoid honoring legitimate claims. I'm sharing this experience so others know what to expect when something goes wrong in a Highland home. If Highland would like to make this right, I'm more than willing to discuss it. But until then, I'll continue sharing this honest experience -- supported by video evidence -- on every relevant platform to help others avoid the same mistake.
