I shattered my ankle/lower leg in a freak accident in the middle of August 2016. I saw Dr Kant initially at the Red Oak location, but was referred to Dr Miller as he is the resident "ankle specialist" at the Dotson/Willowbrook office. I required surgery to reconstruct/reset my ankle & lower leg bones. Dr Miller is a smart guy, seems younger than average for his role & knowledge, but most importantly, he did a four hour surgery & reconstructed my ankle using three plates & 28 screws, and it went off without a hitch. No errors, infections, issues. It's been two weeks since the surgery & I'm amazed at how good everything looks & how well it's healing. I followed all of his instructions & am on track to be able to walk again before Thanksgiving as a result of his efforts & my following instructions. The nursing staff here has been equally wonderful - knowledgable, available, empathetic, helpful, and friendly. I'm about a third of the way through my recovery, but the worst parts of it are over & right now is really about recovery & physical therapy - I'm very impressed at how it's all being handled at this location. The front desk employees can be hit and miss; some are friendly & helpful, I've also encountered aloof & ridiculous. There's also the issue that the front desk charges $30 GD dollars to sign your short term disability form...can't file without a signature, won't sign without the money. Highway robbery. Don't worry though. Wait, skip the front desk, and talk to the surgeon's nurse. They'll hook you up with a signature for your docs for free. (As it should be.) #lifehack read more

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Dr. Hulen's office. I was referred back to him by the orthopedic surgeon who performed my rotator cuff surgery because I continue to wake up with my arm numb and my fingers tingling. Given my symptoms, I expected a thorough evaluation and continuity of care. This was not my first visit with Dr. Hulen. I have seen him before, and during that visit I felt my pain was dismissed. Despite my ongoing symptoms and prior MRI findings, I was told that I was "fine." I am clearly not. At this most recent appointment, I informed the medical assistant that I had already undergone X rays this year and multiple MRIs. I specifically explained that my previous imaging and the radiologist's diagnostic reports were already in my medical record. Rather than reviewing my chart or looking at the existing imaging reports, my concerns were disregarded. No effort was made to determine what testing had already been completed or what the radiologist had already documented before insisting that I have another $250 X ray. There was no meaningful discussion about whether another X ray was medically necessary. Had anyone reviewed my records, they would have seen that I already have documented cervical spine abnormalities, including a curved cervical spine, bone spurs, and multiple MRIs. X rays do not show soft tissue or nerves and do not diagnose a pinched nerve. I asked how another X ray would change my diagnosis or treatment plan. My question was never answered. Instead, I was told that if I declined the X ray, I needed to find another doctor. Rather than reviewing my records, performing a physical examination, or explaining why another X ray was medically necessary, I was denied an evaluation and told to seek care elsewhere. The lack of continuity of care is unacceptable. A physician should review a patient's history, imaging, radiology reports, referral, and current symptoms before deciding what additional testing is needed. I was referred by my orthopedic surgeon because I wake up with my arm numb and my fingers tingling. Instead of evaluating those symptoms, I was turned away without an examination. I continue to experience significant pain, numbness, and tingling that interfere with my daily life. As a Black woman, this experience reinforced what far too many Black women experience in healthcare. Our pain is too often dismissed or minimized. This is now the fourth provider I have seen within this practice, and each time I have left feeling that my symptoms were not taken seriously. One final thought. Ending appointments with "God bless" rings hollow when a patient leaves feeling unheard, dismissed, and denied an evaluation. Compassion is demonstrated through actions, not words. If a practice chooses to invoke faith, then it should also embody the principles of compassion, justice, and treating every patient with dignity and respect. I expected evidence based, patient centered care. Instead, I left feeling unheard, dismissed, and without the care I was referred to receive. Dr. George is awesome. His staff is awful. I went in to get PT orders 3 weeks and have them sent to my PT place. They never sent the orders. They will not answer the phone. I can't get PT without the orders. You wait on hold for 6 minutes and then go to a VM box that is full 3 weeks straight! The place is a zoo, people waiting for hours bc they are overbooked. Super disappointed. I wish Dr. George would go somewhere else. read more

I recently had a TKA with Dr. George. This is my 2nd surgery with Dr. George. He is an incredible doctor. Everything was so carefully planned and communicated by KSF and Dr. George - pre-op, the surgery, hospital stay and rehab. I left the hospital knowing that I had made the best choice in choosing KSF. I'm now 4 weeks post OP and couldn't be doing any better. My husband also had 2 successful shoulder surgeries with Dr. George and feels the same. read more

Horrifying experience with Dr Mayur Kanjia. I trusted you with my pain care, yet, apparently something as simple as responding to phone calls from your patients and other physicians seems beyond your ability. Calling with concerns about new and worsening symptoms proved futile, when repeated increasingly concerned messages went unreturned for days or weeks. When I asked for an explanation for why he had not , as he assured me, coordinated with my surgeon pre-op, he and the office staff completely stopped responding to my calls. This mistreatment/neglect left me in a world of agonizing pain when I discovered I was allergic to the post-surgery pain meds he prescribed. 7 hours of frantic phone calls to KSF's answering service were unreturned. Finally my surgery team called Kanjia, prompting him to call me AND CHEW ME OUT FOR BOTHERING HIM saying he was not on call despite assurance that he would be!! So, i spent a weekend after thoracic surgery without proper pain care in agony because of these cowards. I called repeatedly asking for an explanation .The closest I got was a vague promise from Kanjia's assistant that some Administrator named Brian was supposed to call me. This was Nov 8th. I've left Brian multiple voicemails now with no response. I'm not ordinarily a litigious person, but this mistreatment is making me seriously reconsider. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

So obviously no one goes to a place like this for fun. It's due to a medical issue which is frustrating and expensive and you're doing it because you have too. Personally I am recovering from rotator cuff arthroscopic surgery, and am in the second week of my physical therapy. I really can't say enough good things about this place. From the initial meeting with Dr George to the surgery at TOPS to the amazon bag physical therapy team everything was must easier than I was worried about. I have been to KSF multiple times for neck and back pain. All they do is order physical therapy and over the counter medications that do not help. Today I had an appointment at 8:30 am. to try and get some additional help as I have been in pain since December. Sat in the room for an hour and finally walked out. A man that came in when I did stated to the receptionist that he had a 9:00 appointment with the same doctor I had an 8:30 appointment with, however, he was seen before me. read more

I dont usually quote Bush, but he said it best... "fool me once, shame on you. Fool me -- you can't get fooled again... On 2 different occasions , in 2 different KSF Offices I have endured waiting over an hour once I was placed in the exam room, to only be seen by an impersonable annoyed Dr. Kanjia for 5min (I'm being generous by saying 5min). The 3rd time it happen, I left without being seen. Never again!. My time is valuable. Yes I have extreme pain, but I will endure it long enough to get another pain specialist. I had an appointment with Dr. Cartwright on January 18 for excruciating back pain. It took the doctor almost two hours to come into the examination room. He did apologize, but that was not upsetting to me. The upsetting part was the medical assistant who said he sent my three prescriptions to Walgreens. Walgreens has never received them and it's now twenty- four hours later. I have left four messages at the doctor's office and called one last time at 4:45pm today, January 19th. The receptionist says all medical personnel are gone home. That is what is very upsetting. It's beyond incompetent. Now, I will be waiting another day for my prescriptions. I will find another orthopedic practice in the event I need one in the future. I hope others do not have the horrible experience I had. read more

great place if you like waiting an hour and still not see the doctor and the only suggestion given to me was you can leave...No emergency call for the doctor...just plain overbooked...they control patient flow...I did not set the appointment time..KSF told me time and date for my appointment...I arrived prior to my appointment and checked in...sat for 30 minutes and was told real soon...45 minutes...real soon..60 minutes...sorry you can leave...now I took 4 hours of personal leave to make my appointment time....NEVER saw the doctor this follow up visit....had to get back to work...so I lost a half day pay...and now they bill me for services on my first visit because they charged more than what is normal and customary...so they can bill me...I am going to bill them for my lost wages and time...far more that the $160.00 bill from KSF. I have been a patient of doctor Cartwright and Doctor Kanjia. I've actually worked in the OR with many of KSF surgeons. They are some of the best surgeons I've worked with. Having said that, their office staff is thee worst. I'm talking specifically about Dr. Kanjia's office manager. I have been a patient of Dr. Kanjia for over 5 years. He is very through and very nice and listens to me. But after all these years, sadly, I had to stop seeing him. His office staff never ever returns phone calls. To have my last procedure done, I had to make a separate appointment to find out what the hold up was. The new PA he hired some dude I've never seen before was patronizing me when I asked him why it was taking so long to schedule my procedure. I was in a lot of pain. Like I said I work in the OR, I push stretchers, help move patients my job is physically demanding. All they had to do was call the insurance company to do a peer to peer. I played phone tag with them for more than a month. His office manager Valerie was very rude too. Threatened to kick me out of the office if I didn't "calm down". I'm a professional health care provider in pain and this is how a patient of 7 years get treated by KSF office people. The lady that is in charge of calling insurance company I thin her name is Becky like I said, never returns calls. It wasn't until I showed up to the office they finally called the insurance company and the insurance company approved my procedure within 10 minutes. His office staff very unprofessional, uncaring, and patronizing. Unbelievable! I finally switched to another doctor at Methodist Willowbrook. They even gave the new doctor a hard time about releasing my medical records. I had to personally go to the office and ask to release my medical records. They told me usually they don't just release records the same day. My appointment with the new doctor happened to be that day. I told the receptionist I wasn't leaving without my records. So do yourself a favor. If you visit the office and the staff is rude, don't come back. Save yourself the frustration of putting yourself through all this stress. read more

I hate to write a bad review, but I have no other choice. I had an appointment with Dr. Cartwright a month ago, and I really like him. However, it is impossible to get in contact with anyone at the clinic. They have a portal with a message system, but nobody ever replies to questions, and a nurse told me they don't use it. When I call the number on the paper I got from them, it's a non-working number. When I call the number found on the Internet, I most often get a lady who refuse to forward a call and tells me I can only leave a message. I explained that I had just missed a call from a nurse calling me about 30 hours after I left my previous message, and she simply said that it was my problem that I had missed the call, and that I had to leave a new message. At other times, I get a different lady who either forwards my call to a mailbox that's always full, or transfer me to a number that is temporarily out of service. I like a doctors office/clinic where I can get in contact with someone over the phone or Internet and get an answer or recommendation without having to physically go to the office, especially in these Covid times. I am so angry at this clinic that I have no other choice than to find a different clinic/doctor. I feel sorry for Dr. Cartwright and the fellow doctors at this clinic, as I don't think they're aware of this non-working system. Why have a perfectly great looking portal if nobody uses it, and why make it impossible to get a hold of a nurse or an assistant. read more

Unfortunately, my daughter fell off the monkey bars at school, and I needed the care of an orthopaedic physician. I called at 8:00 am and the receptionist was so kind and worked us in to see Dr. Dean the same day without needing a referral from her pediatrician. Upon arriving, the paperwork was not overwhelming, and the receptionists had already verified our insurance. The appointment was right on time (2:45), which surprised me since my experience with doctor's offices is that they tend to run late after lunch. The nursing staff and X-ray techs were really kind and easy to talk to. Dr. Dean showed me the X-rays, talked to me about what to expect, and assured me that the bone would heal nicely. We were in and out in less than an hour, cast and all. I would absolutely recommend this office to anyone needing orthopaedic care! read more

I don't even know where to start with my horrifying nightmare and my road to recovery for my knee injury from a careless slip and fall. My nightmare began after a massive fail of an ACL surgery that was supposed to be an outpatient procedure turned into a 4 day hospital stay and a second surgery needed the very next day to remove a screw that somehow ended in my nerve and had to be dug out. So I now have a 10 inch long scar running down the outer side of my leg with a few other smaller two inch scars on the inner side of my leg by my knee. All this done in a hunt for that screw that was playing hide and seek in my leg apparently. Absolutely mortified at the aftermath of stitching done to sow me back up; I then had to endure a year of limping with massive pain and agony. I had honestly just given up on ever being able to walk with no limp and be pain free. My collection of high heel stilettos turned into a collection of flip flops and flats. My other doctor would only tell me I was being a baby and had to continue physical therapy mind you after 4 months still little to no progress. He just said it was all normal the year limp and all. I was just doomed. THEN....... A friend of mine recommended me to Dr. George since her mother had previously had surgery with him and was very pleased. My first visit with him was in 2012 with my complaint of having a never ending limp and endless pain on my right knee and leg. I explained my horrifying experience of my original ACL surgery (above). In disbelief he did his best to reassure me that, that was NOT the standard. I really was hesitant to undergo another surgery. He suggested X-Rays and then after reviewing them sends me for an MRI. Inside I already knew but they confirmed my original surgery was an epic fail and I would need a THIRD surgery to repair my anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). I opted for a donor tissue at the suggestion of my first doctor for my original surgery and the replacement graft he used had failed. So considering my ACL reconstruction would have to be completely redone; I was glad I still had the option to use my own tissue as Dr. George suggested would be a better option for my situation. I was very reluctant but decided to schedule my surgery. I go over the standard routine of pre-surgery prep. They have their own facility where they do surgery, Tops Surgical Specialty Hospital ("TOPS"). I show up on my scheduled date and was pleasantly surprised at how friendly and comforting all the staff was from the front desk at check in, the nurses, anesthesiologist, of course Dr. George and his PA. There really are no words to describe how grateful I am for these guys. This facility is just awesome. I went in for my surgery and what do you know I was done within the hour as planned. I was checked on repeatedly and they just make sure you don't need anything while in the recovery room. Now the big question is, was it worth doing another surgery. I could not believe it! I was able to walk and my limp was GONE! I did my post-opp appointments and physical therapy and I was back in my high heels. I even got a very nice phone call from the nurse the day following my surgery. She just wanted to check on me see how things were going and making sure I didn't have any questions. That for me went a long way. I think her name was Brenda, not sure but I really appreciated not being seen as a number and know they didn't dismiss you just cause your surgery was done and you were out of their hair. I don't recall how many weeks of PT I did but I'm glad I did it. They also have two office location and both are great. I went to both locations for PT, but prefer the Red Oak location only because they have so much more equipment for the exercises. They are a one stop shop. I went to both the Red Oak and Willow Brook location for appointments, post-op and PT. I have had X-Rays, MRIs, and have been fitted for a knee brace. I prefer the Red Oak location because parking is in front of the building vs the Willow Brook location you have to walk a good distance, but you can valet park for $6 which I took advantage of. It is really nice to be able to get everything done at one location and without having to make multiple appointments for imaging. Then three years later in October of 2015 I had pain in my right knee again and went back to see Dr. George. This time I had a meniscus tear totally unrelated with my prior surgeries and he recommended another surgery. Being so satisfied with my last surgery he did; I didn't even think twice about it. I scheduled it and again was very happy with the outcome. It was nice to see familiar faces three yeas later. So much of the staff was still there and friendly as can be and that says a lot. So again a BIG thanks to Dr. George and all the staff at KSF and TOPS. I hope I don't need to go see you guys again for more surgeries but if I do at least I know I'm in good hands. read more

I had the fortune of being treated by Dr. Miller. He performed a complex 3 hours surgery in my foot that involved almost a bone reconstruction and tendon repair. Dr. Miller is an authority in his speciality, and an empathetic individual that had addressed all my concerns and performed an impeccable surgery without complications. Most of the staff is real nice. After 2.5 moths after my surgery I am still recovering but I am in the right track. read more

I have been seeing several different doctors & had physical therapy at KSF since 2004 & have been more than pleased with the doctors. Sometimes there is a long wait which is normal with doctors who sometimes have emergency surgery that comes up or consultations that last longer than expected, but Dr. Cartright, Dr. Nash, Dr. George, & Dr. Hume have given me excellent service taking time to answer questions that I might have which may cause them to be late for the next patient, but I appreciate that it's not a quick in and out with no personal concern. These doctors are not part of a surgery mill as they've been doing everything that can be done before rushing to do surgery. The receptionists are sometimes brusk, but the rest of the staff is friendly & caring. Take a book to read or something to do while you wait. The service you get from the doctors & staff is worth the wait. read more

I had a spinal injection for nerve damage in my back. This procedure helped me a great deal. However, my follow-up visit was a disaster. I was looking forward to seeing the doctor as I am still having a good deal of pain in my left leg. I arrived a little early for an 11:00 appointment. After 12:00 passed, I inquired at the desk about wait time. She replied "you're next." Near 1:00 I asked again and was told "doctor is running behind. You can always re schedule." After investing this much wait time in today, not an option. To make a long story short, I left at 1:15 w/o ever seeing the doctor. In my opinion, for what it's worth, the personnel in this office are very indifferent. It would be nice, when they are running behind like that, if waiting patients could be informed & given the option to re schedule befor so much time has passed. read more

Saw Cartwright for neck pain. He sat behind his laptop and diagnosed me without ever getting up to do any kind of assessment. He prescribed steroids and anti inflammatory's. I took those called and said I still hurt spoke with Valerie the office manager. She said he wants to change my meds and start therapy. I asked her if I could just get an MRI since I was experiencing numbness and tingling on my left side. She said he wants to do this first. I asked if she could give me the insurance code so I can find a place myself. She never called me back 5 days later I called she apologized for not getting back with me. Because I was hurting so bad I just asked her to set up my therapy at their office. She could not get me an appointment for 7 days. How am I suppose to get better. Anyway I never showed up because I went to another dr who actually did assess me and immediately ordered an MRI. I have 2 herniated discs with broken fragments. I asked the office to send X-rays via email to my new dr the office said they did my dr never got them. I'm not impressed with this facility. If that's how they treat their patients I certainly don't want them operating on me!! read more
