KTA Express, you're a lifesaver! I came to the KTA Express store twice in recent weeks, and this store/supermarket totally saved me from having to drive back in town (Kailua-Kona) to buy something I sorely needed. I was working at a local bank next door doing some lock work when I realized I needed a few 9-volt batteries to fix something. Being that I was traveling, and did not have access to all my normal gear, I asked the bank people where was the nearest store? Originally I was worried that I might have to drive all the way back to Kailua-Kona to get what I needed, but luckily KTA had a store in Kealakekua. Walked over to the KTA store, as it was just a hop, skip, & jump away from the local bank (where I was working). Got what I needed, and time & resources were saved that day! Last week Thursday I found myself back in Kealakekua working at a credit union this time. No, I didn't need anything in particular for the credit union this time, but after finishing the job at the credit union, the KTA store was very convenient for me to get some drinks & some grub. Apparently the KTA Express has a vendor - L&L Drive-In that does pre-made - ready to eat bentos. Some of the items looked pretty good, so I decided to give it a shot & picked up a mini BBQ Chicken & Noodle Bento. The mini bento was pretty tasty, and best part of it all is that I didn't have to go far to get my lunch grub. KTA Express in Kealakekua, you're a lifesaver! Lol! read more

DAY 5 of Vacation - This local market was located down the street from a restaurant we just dined at. We needed more hygiene products and travel items. Parking: They have a small parking lot. Very easy to find. Free parking. This was a large market. It had everything a grocery store provided, but products were a bit more expensive than usual. I walked around and noticed there were fresh fruits in their grocery section. They also had fun snacks in the freezer section. We found everything we needed to restock for the rest of our trip. read more

We went to many KTA stores during our two weeks in Hawaii. They have a small inventory of almost everything you would need. We usually got readymade food for lunch and poke steaks to sear for dinner with rice and salad. The personal were very nice and helpful. read more

A selection of bento box items for a day at the beach. Perfect snacking ! We have tried a couple of the other KTA options on the island but this Express is our favorite, by far. Maybe not the best for a full grocery shopping but since we are tourists and not into a full shop, this location has everything we wanted and lots of things we didn't know we needed. Honestly, nothing is better than celebrating the fact you survived digging through the units in the blacked out halls of "My Self Storage Space" in Kealakekua than sitting in the sun with poke and Red Bull! As an Oahu boy it's a treat to come down to the Big Island for their famous pokes. The lobster poke was sweet and creamy. The garlic butter scallops were so rich! Next time I'm skipping digging through the storage unit alone and instead will bring a friend both to distract possible serial killers and to share these ono pokes! Big Island's beloved KTA has opened its newest (7th) store, and first one in almost 30 years. This is a perfect location, because up until now (since the old Kamigaki closed), you had to drive either south to Choicemart, or north to Keauhou's KTA for groceries. This branch is a little bit smaller than their other stores, hence the "express". As they just opened yesterday, there are a few things not 100% complete yet, like the L&L mix plate station in one corner. This KTA has everything you are used to seeing at their other locations, including local produce, poke counter, and a good selection of adult beverages. I can imagine plenty of people doing their pau hana shopping run here. KTA is a favorite among locals, as they offer a lot more specialty items (especially Asian) that the other big box and supermarkets here don't. scenario: you fly into kona, procure your rental car, and need to get some groceries. this is a great place to make that happen away from the hustle and bustle of kona proper. they have a great mix of local and well known brands, some pre-prepared food like sushi as well as fresh fruit, dairy, bakery items and staples. the prices are going to be an eye opener for people coming from the mainland who have never been to hawaii before. they are definitely consistent with what other local places are charging for the same items but things are more expensive here because many of them have had to be transported across the pacific to be available. kta is clean, the employees were friendly and the checker was wearing a mask (if that matters to you in the realm of covid) and there's plenty of parking. even if you intend to shop elsewhere at another point, this place is worthy of a stop for initial essentials or restocking of necessary pantry items. read more

Great convenience Mart. Very friendly and courteous staff. Grocery section is well stocked, fresh tasty bakery products and L&L is also in the house. I wish they offered fresh brewed Kona Coffee instead of Kau Coffee. After all the Kona Coffee Farmers are supporting this store. read more

This is a very nice store. We bought food here while we were camping on the big island. The name "Express" suggests that they are smaller than the normal KTA store. However, we found all the items we wanted here at about the same price as the main store. We really enjoyed their poke, and fresh local fruits and veggies. All at very reasonable prices. They also have lots of nice Japanese items. read more

Nice to see KTA fill the void left after the closing of Kamigaki Store years ago. Although it's smaller than regular KTA stores, they have a decent selection of the essentials. I must point out that their furikake poke is outstanding. Do yourself a favor and try it! read more

Love this local chain store. They are unlike the national chain stores. Local products- fresh produce and grass fed beef from Big Island. Their poke selection is hard to beat! Fresh pastries, cakes are made fresh daily. Truly a gem and a blessing to the community. read more

While I like KTA, this location doesn't have a whole lot of variety in products, fresh produce. It is exactly like their name, express. No customer service no friendliness. When my daughter and I go in there to shop the vibe I get isn't pleasant. Some of the cashiers are nice and I'd go in for that but the selection there is not worth it. read more
