The Hawaiian bread is absolutely incredible. Soft, slightly sweet, fresh, and honestly the best sandwich bread I've ever had. Every bite made me wonder why every sandwich in the world isn't served on Hawaiian bread. Then came the pizza. Authentic, artisan island flavor with a homemade crust that tasted like it had been infused with fresh rosemary and other garden herbs. The pineapple and ham tasted wonderfully fresh, making the classic Hawaiian pizza feel like it was invented right here. And then there's the balcony. You look out over the emerald-green Kona coffee slopes as they tumble down to the brilliant blue waters of Kealakekua Bay. The Pacific stretches to the horizon, sailboats drift across the bay, and on a clear day you can even spot the Captain Cook Monument across the water. Delicious food with kind service. The coffee was super good with the macadamia nut milk. The papaya itself wasn't sweet and didn't really taste like anything. Finals thought it would be a yogurt bowl, but it was only a spoonful of yogurt. The eggs Benedict's had great flavor, and the fish tasted sooo good with the hollandaise sauce . The omelet was very cheesy and we loved the cheese pull. While the cheesecake was good, the crust needs work. It's pretty hard and we couldn't break it up easily. This is such a gem. The service was amazing and super friendly. We arrived later in the morning and waited over an hour for a table. But it was worth the wait. They have a beautiful view. Parking can be a little challenging so just come prepared to wait a little for a spot to open. The food was delicious. Ordered breakfast sandwiches and the eggs with Portuguese sausage with rice or toast. Coffee was great and were told they grow their own. We also ordered the lime pie and coconut cream pie. Combine a scoop of lime with coconut and it's a hawaiian delight!! But stand alone the lime pie was amazing and that's not a flavor I would normally go for. Treat yourself to a dessert. I highly recommend this spot. Loved this place. Wait was 35 minutes at lunch time but totally worth it. The view is spectacular and the food was great. I got the Ono sandwich on Laua bread and it was delicious. So was the lilikoi cheesecake. Honestly the coffee was the least interesting thing I had. There is parking out front if you can get it. The food ranges from good to great at The Coffee Shack. The views are fantabulous, and the service is attentive. Baked goods are a house specialty and you won't go wrong with them. I've also had what was the best cappuccino in recent memory during a visit in the past year. Alas, the cappuccino experience wasn't repeated, though later caps were still good. At meals I tend to stick with the Ono Benedict though I've had the fish sandwich and can recommend both. The papaya trio is a good one for a lighter meal. For our last breakfast, we decided to stop here abd we were so happy we did. First of all the view for breakfast is amazing. It is a house that turned restaurant. I can imagine during busy times, parking is a dread. However, the service is phenomenal and we got lattes to start. They were huge and perfectly warm. Then we ordered the special of cherry Garcia franchise roast and the egg breakfast. The French toast was perfect and that luau bread was perfect. It was not too soggy and not too dry. I didn't even need syrup for them. The eggs and bacon were perfect for my mom and she got the luau bread for her toast, which she enjoyed as well. She said it wasn't overwhelming with coconut and carrots. It also had macadamia nuts too. Overall, I definitely recommend stopping here at some point when you're in the captain cook area. I don't really know the area and this place was recommended by our Airbnb host. I noticed Hawaii has a lot of homey comfort style types of food and this is definitely one of those places. The service was friendly and quick. It's not luxurious and the food isnt any more special than other pancake shops but it's solid. What we ordered came as it was it was expected to be and running in there while it was raining made it even more delicious. Something unique was their papaya. I was not expecting whole half papaya not pre cut up but it was absolutely delicious. Not a normal breakfast fruit for me but it was a wonderful, delicious, beautifully plated surprise. I walked into this cute little deli/Cafe. I noticed the parking was pretty packed and thought this place must be pretty good. I saw that the menu looked good. I was surprised to see a very small shop, with a counter and no one behind it. I waited and noticed people are frustrated because of the wait. I stood waiting for 3 or 4 mins to ask someone how long the wait is. Someone came over and I ask, "do you know how long the wait is?" This person couldn't give me the time to look at me. She just said, "I have no idea, I don't work this counter. You will have to wait." With that, I said..."oh ok, and I won't eat here anyway." Se LA Vie...There are so many great little shacks/shops to have amazing food. Definitely consider taking the time to really look around. I have posted a few other places in my reviews. Wonderful coffee shop cafe outside of Kona in captain cook. Stopped for a coffee one morning and decided to go back for breakfast the next day as it was close to the mango farm we were staying at. I can't say enough good things about the coffee shack. The employees are polite and friendly, the breakfast was delicious and the views don't even seem real. It was super sweet of our server to allow us to change tables to the window seat after a group left. Hawaiian French toast was top shelf as was my lox breakfast special. Fresh, delicious with homemade breads. If staying in Kona I'd recommend taking the short drive out to either grab a coffee or brunch from this gem. read more

We heard good things about the food and location. Everything we heard was positive and ended up being true. The food was extremely fresh and taste, the service was fast and the waitstaff are very friendly. If you arrive on a weekend expect to wait a while. Seriously, the only downside is the parking isn't great and it can be tricky to get on/off of HWY 11, they do have parking down a steep hill on the south side of the restaurant. When you're traveling on the Big Island, stop for breakfast or lunch, it's worth the wait. read more

There was about a 20-minute wait, but I was able to purchase a pastry to snack on. Everyone was very friendly, and I bought a cute gecko sticker illustrated by one of their own staff. I delighted in a flavorful eggs Benedict. The potatoes were seasoned well & fluffy. The cook on the poached egg was perfection. We didn't order one, but overheard other guests loving their pizzas! They provided me with a cup to finish my latte on the go. Try not to loiter at the tables for long, so the next party can be seated & enjoy the space as well!
