I was looking for some plants to take back to California with me and since it needs to be soil-less I had to make sure I was able to take the cuttings of the plant. Paula had a bunch I wanted to take back as her prices are extremely fair. I don't know about you guys but these days it's hard to come by plants where it's not completely overpriced. They all looked so green and well taken cared of. Andrea did a great job making us feel welcome. She also gave me great advice on how to take better care of air plant indoors. I went home with a lovely swirly air plant. I will do my best to take good care of her. I will be back next week to take home some pothos and that Swiss plant! Plants are truly the most beautiful, delicate things. I yearn to have a green thumb so I can be surrounded by them all around me!

I saw Judy C.'s photos, review, and check-in for Happy Koi Nursery and decided to visit this small, local business on the second level of the "Uptown" part of the mall, next to the escalator. Krysten I.'s review mentioned that the prices were reasonable and that the plants are labeled with names, prices, and how to care for the plant. She was right! There was a very helpful, friendly worker who gave me a box, lined with plastic (to prevent leaking) for my purchases. She guided me through the decision-making process and explained that this location in the mall is good for these houseplants because the natural light comes in from the ceiling. I ended up buying three different plants with yellow, purple, and pink flowers. The nice woman suggested that I look for planters at Ross... because the prices might be lower than other places... and she pointed the way... Thanks for the tips and great advice!

Apple Maps kept trying to take me to Papahana Kualoa for some reason. Fortunately, it's a loop so if your navigation does that, just get back on to Ha'ikū Road. If you're driving makai on Ha'iku Road, the nursery driveway will be on your left shortly after passing Kahuhipa Street/the He'eia Preschool sign on your right. If you're driving mauka on Ha'ikū Road, look for the green and white Hui Kū Maoli Ola sign on your right, just before Kahuhipa Street/the He'eia Preschool sign on your left. It's a relatively small nursery but still worth a visit, especially if you're searching for or have questions about native and endemic plants. I saw other reviews that one of the staff members was rude and unhelpful but maybe there was a staffing change since then because I had a great experience. The staff member (not sure about her name but a haole lady) was very welcoming and happy to answer any questions I had. There are greenhouses towards the back but those are for their seedings not ready for sale yet so kapu unless you wanted to check out the ferns for sale in that area, then a staff member can guide you there. Otherwise, everything for sale is out in front in the open area. Sections marked with red flags are already spoken for though. There are mostly the same plants you can find at the hardware stores they sell to (City Mill, Home Depot) but I did find a kou plant which I hadn't been able to find at my local City Mill or Home Depot. They also have larger sizes of plants than they typically sell at stores. If you're interested in something but don't see it out in the nursery, don't be afraid to ask a staff member! They brought out this big 'ilima for me from the back because I didn't see any in front. I was hoping to find ko'oloa'ula too but they're still prepping the seeds. If you live far away, you could call ahead to check too. This organization does amazing work not just providing native and endemic plants for businesses and the public but also education! Their website is a wealth of knowledge, as are the staff members. I like how the plant descriptions on the signs (even at Home Depot) are written in plain language with some humor thrown in. For more info, another great resource online is Plant Pono. According to their website, Hui Kū Maoli Ola offers plant rentals for events too, though I haven't used that service.

They're only open to the military so you have to have a military ID to shop here. Great variety of plants, gardening items and outdoor furniture. I understand some locals might not love tourists, this place certainly gave that vibe, but then maybe just don't be open for them? Found this place online and was in the area, decided to swing by thinking there will be lots of fruits to try. Specifically wanted to try honey cream pineapple. Came here on Saturday around noon and it was dead empty, visitors or owners. As we were slowly rolling in just trying to understand where to park, we got greeted by a man - well, he popped out of nowhere and pointed at the area where we can park. No smile, no hi, no nothing. Okay. We get out of the car, there is some walkable nursery territory where they sell plants and you can overlook the nearby hills, it's pretty. The fruit stand is small. When I asked about whether they had the pineapple I was looking for, just got "no." as a response. I was like okay, no biggie, what would you recommend to try then? The mix plate. It was pretty mush the only thing the guy had in their fridge, a $10 assortment plate. We paid cash, the guy pointed where we could sit, and evaporated. The plate was okay, however I wish there was some sort of indication of which fruit is which; and the guy who met us with such a cold vibe didn't show any desire to spend a second with us to explain anything, I mean he didn't even ask "how are you". I guessed maybe 5 fruits out of 13 that the plate had, the rest were mystery, some I liked and some I didn't. We left with a pretty bad aftertaste from this experience.
