Drive slow, not need to ruin your car, the road is a bit rough when you start going deep into the nursery. Frankie's is on the Windward side, but basically in the mountains. You really need to know where you are going, it's most definitely off the beaten path. Cell reception starts to get much weaker... almost non existent. There are a healthy variety of plants for you to purchase, Frankie's is after all a nursery. But the main focus of this trip was to try the exotic fruits. They sell a variety of exotic fruits from around the world. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly and will gladly tell you about the fruits. They do have cut fruit platters for you to try, just make sure you bring a cooler bag, it's a journey onto itself to get here. I had no idea this place existed in Waimanalo. you have to go through quite a bit of residential area to find this nursery as it is far off the main road. However, once you are there it is an awesome place to experience exotic fruits that are not sold in supermarkets, farmers markets or restaurants they also sell fruit trees, as well as other plants. The staff are super helpful and humble. My only wish is that they were closer in town. You can buy seasonal exotic fruit by itself or they have in their refrigerator packaged fruits so you can sample multiple items. I am so glad I visited and plan to go again especially when durian is in season. read more

Love Frankie's Fruit Farm..! Many years ago when planting our yard we were told Frankie's was the place to go for the best fruit trees. They did not disappoint! Ended up getting a white pirie mango tree, kaimana lychee, and the most abundantly fruiting kumquat tree ( perfect accent for outside the front entrance!). We had the trees delivered. Fast forward many years and many fruit crops later, with a visit to the farm with friends, was blown away by the exotic fruit which was available for purchase ALONG with the fruit trees! Time permitting as well as interest level of carmates, I try to stop by the farm whenever driving around for sightseeing. If you are seeking tropical plants and fruit trees, this is the place to shop. The personnel are very knowledgeable and friendly. They are very helpful to make sure you find the right plant for the right location and microclimate. They also share information about the best support and care for the plants when you get home, to make sure the plants flourish. It's a winding road to find their nursery, but it's worth it. We also like to buy their fresh cut fruit sampler while we are there-it's full of the exotic fruits they grow in their own plants. It's such a treat whenever I visit Frankie's Nursery. Not only do they sell a wide variety of plants, trees, & seedlings, but they also have a fruit stand where they sell their fruit that grows right on the property! And to take it up a notch, they even sell fresh cut fruits (usually super sweet pineapple) and an assortment of freshly made fruit juice. My favorite juice is their lilikoi and also their pineapple. They even have dragon fruit juice, which I plan to try during my next visit. It's fun to browse all the different fruits and plants while at the same time educating myself with the fruits/plants that are are new to me. If you have questions about anything they have to offer, just ask for Lynn. She is very knowledgeable about the plants they sell and will guide you to select what kind of plants will thrive according to where you live. Here's my big tip: Frankie's Nursery has a list you can request to be put on for the more exotic, difficult fruits to find (think of durian & langsat aka lanzones). I thought I'd post an update to my original review which was written after we bought a Soursop tree. Today, we just picked our first soursop and it was huge. Probably could've waited a week or two to ripen but we'll learn as we go. I also went to Frankie's today and last Saturday to get more fruit trees. Ended up buying an Acerola Cherry tree ($40), an Abiu tree ($75), and a lemon tree ($45). They were kind enough to save the Abiu tree for me which arrived at their nursery shortly after my trip last weekend. Frankie's also picks fruit from their trees which they offer for sale to the public. Today, I bought my wife a pound of lanzones for $18. Small kine expensive but I don't know where else to buy these and my wife LOVES them. read more

Honey Cream Pineapple is not a myth, it is real. You can't find them anywhere else except here. We had to tell the man, that we've been back three times in a row for the special pineapple but they're never available for him to go inside and gave us one from his secret stash. We were on the way to the North Shore and we asked one of the fruit vendor to cut the pineapple for us (for a fee) and the lady initially refused because we got the pineapple from someplace else. We explained it to her and she agreed to do it. We told her to get few pieces to try as well, and laughed when we saw her eyes went big with delight as soon as she bit into the treasured pineapple. read more

Frankie's is a special place. Franky sells high quality grafted trees. The nursery is within a private grove. The grove is private for various reasons. Some people get upset that they can't go in there and leave poor reviews because of this unfortunately. If you want the best selection of exotic, hard to find A++ quality plants this is the spot. There is no other place on O'ahu like Frankie's. I grew up visiting the various tropical fruit farms in famous Homestead. I visit Frankie's pretty much every time i go Waimānalo side--which is like twice a year. Seriously though, they have the best and the most interesting fruits on the island, hands down. They offer both potted plants and fresh fruits harvested from their nursery. The potted plants make fantastic gifts, and the staff are incredibly knowledgeable. They helped me choose a Surinam cherry (monkimonki kersie) plant, which we determined would thrive in the conditions at my uncle's house, as well as a Mexican key lime tree that I could grow in a pot. The fruits are seasonal which is great because i get to try something new every time i go. You can follow them instagram to get an idea of what they have on hand or give them a call if you're interested in a particular fruit. In my opinion, Frankie's Nursery is seriously underrated. Frankie's Nursery has a fruit stand that carries a wide variety of interesting and delicious fruit. But, we drove to Frankie's specifically to pick up pre-cut containers of the white cream pineapple $7/container). The white cream pineapple is a squat looking pineapple that appears very green but in reality is uber sweet and candy-like. It's worth every cent! They have a refrigerated section with pre-cut pink guava, dragon fruit, and a variety of fruit juices. If you're feeling lazy and don't want to bother with cutting up fruit, I'd recommend getting the cut up fruit option. The stand has an ever changing variety of fruit, some of which I've never seen or heard of before. Case in point, fuzzy persimmons from the Philippines. While prices are not necessarily cheap and the farm is located in Waimanalo, a drive to Frankie's is worthwhile simply to get white cream pineapple. I love coming here not only to try the fruits but entering the garden is just bliss experience itself. The garden is full of mystical trees and fruits hanging down from it. Some fruits are on the ground and you can see how natural the whole place is. Its like going into a garden full of mystical fruits. Some of the fruits I have tried some I have never tried. It comes from all over the world and not only its mystical but the quality is just astonishing. I'm not just talking about the sugar content or how good it taste. The feel and sensational flavor of each fruit is just compared to none, it has this Hawaiian botanical quality and essence to the fruits. One my favorite seasonal fruits offered from here is: White Sugar Honey Pineapple (Very low acid and full of flavor) and Durian (Only fresh Durian you can get in the U.S.). My recommendation is to go here at the start of your Oahu vacation, not the end. Some of the fruits get picked a few days out so you have to let them ripen a few days and can't take them with you off the island so... We had regrets but you don't have to make the same mistake! What we did have that was ripe and immediately edible were super delicious and fun. Fruits we've never seen before and multiple varieties They have hundreds of fruits so you'll never know what you'll find on your visit. I think they regularly have honey pineapples though? And that you can take with you on the plane. So sweet and crunchy despite looking unripe. Almost like a sweet apple. Small and expensive but well worth trying. And taking home as a souvenir. I came here 3 years ago before the pandemic for the Honey Cream Pineapple and it was delicious!! I was able to come back since then and unfortunately they no longer are growing honey cream pineapple :( Super sad but the owners told me it's due to old age and they hope someone can take over. They also said it takes 3 years for them to grow so we won't see them for a long time :( But they still grow lots of interesting fruit that taste very delicious and haven't seen before back in Canada Also it's a great view! What a treat! Frankie's staff were super helpful and knew a ton about fruit, and plants. They had a lot of fruit options to eat or take away. We got a platter of a bunch of different fruits to try that we're maybe like $15 total and refrigerated which helped them last. The guava was especially good. It's worth noting most fruit can't be taken back into the continental united states, so make sure you aren't buying more than you plan to eat while there, if visiting! read more

Honey cream pineapple! Need I say more?? We were on a plant nursery mission to enhance my garden with some new flowers. Frankie's had the grandest entrance leading up to their nursery. We parked, explored around, and found a worker to ask our questions. They do not carry vegetable plants, but they do have fruits. He was helpful a bit..he seemed focused on tending to his plants. Nevertheless we continued our quest. Since this was our 3rd nursery stop of the day, my eldest was hungry. And that my friends, is where we discovered the sweetest most delicious pineapple ever! I also got these adorable mini pineapple decor that lasts a month and isn't edible. The guy seemed to rush us when exploring the food stand and then when we were paying. We made a trip to the east side for the second time just to pick up a container of pineapples. There is a sign that says 1box per car..kind of confusing since there is a box below that sign but the guy was referring to one 'container' per car.. If you're ever on the east side, visit Frankie's and try the honey cream pineapple! Customer service could do better though.. read more

This is a beautiful fruit stand/plant nursery in Waimanalo. They have lots of beautiful fruit trees here so if that's what you're looking for, this is the place! There is plenty of parking but no restrooms. They take credit card here in addition to cash. Lynn, the owner, as well as the other staff were very friendly and helpful. I didn't recognize 80% of the trees and they were patient in telling me what everything was. They had lots of mango starters, avocado, and citrus. Some more unique ones we saw were star apple, wi Apple, pomelo, cacao, and some very interesting flowering trees too. We grabbed a Bali red pomelo, wi Apple, lychee, and roni avocado tree. We also bought a star apple to try and it was super interesting! Almost like a persimmon taste. The reason I took off 2 stars is because 3 out of the 4 plants we brought home were not healthy. The pomelo leaves all had leaf-miner trails, avocado had lace bugs and the lychee had warts all over from lychee erinose mites LEM. I understand a couple bugs here and there but these were all over the whole plant. I know now because of the research I did so in the future I know to look for these issues but with the staff helping to pick out trees, I feel like maybe it should have been pointed out? In general I don't think it's good to sell plants with issues at all, especially how problematic some of the pests are. I still would support local over the big box stores so if you do go just really examine what you are buying. read more

Tucked away off the back roads of waimanalo, this little gem is worth the detour. A honest to God, decent variety of fresh tropical fruits is generally hard to come by at the local grocery stores. Sure you find the staple apples and oranges, bananas and strawberries. But locally grown, sweet, low acidic pineapple that makes your mouth water, mountain apple, longan, chico, mangos, and fruit I've never even seen before in all my travels in Asia... what a treat! Then there's the nursery. The ability to buy and grow all your own. Wow. They also carry decorative landscaping plants to include the hard to find lotus plants. I was so excited to take my mom to this place after seeing the amazing pictures and reviews. We love touring agriculture wherever we go and always look forward to trying new exotic fruits. Sadly, our adventure was short and a complete disappointment. After parking, we were greeted by man, who doesn't appear to Frankie (per the website pictures). I told him that we're looking to explore new fruits and we proceeded to look around. My mom and I ventured down the road towards the orchard, instead of the actual nursery. We were looking at the trees and fruits, trying to identify them. Within minutes, we heard someone hollering for us to come back. It was the same man who greeted us. He advised us that we're not allowed to walk around the orchard. I then told him that his website states that visitors are welcome to explore the nursery grounds. Which to me, means...the nursery grounds. He says, no. Well, dang Mr., you should revise the website and clarify that! So we went back to the "nursery grounds" to look at the fruit stand. Again, disappointed. The mangos and dragon fruits were small and shriveled. It wasn't much of a fruit stand, more so, a stand of several old fruits. The farmers market had better selection. Came here to see what they have and bcuz it's not season for most fruits in Hawaii they mostly had citrus, some jackfruit and honey cream pineapple $8/lb looks like price went up. But it's a nice place with very nice family. They let us walk around the nursery and shared thei knowledge on a few things. When visiting just follow Google and it will take you right to their gate go up the driveway towards the house to park. Def wana come during mango/lychee/avocado, etc season one day. read more

We were not prepared for the sheer number of fruits from every corner of the world that are available here! They also have the biggest Staghorn Ferns you will ever see anywhere! Lynn showed us around and wouldn't let us buy plants that wouldn't do well on the beach in Waianae. The drive alone is worth going out there! Absolutely incredible scenery around every turn. When you consider the value of the fruit you will get from your trees, their price is not as expensive as they look. My husband has spent thousands of dollars at this place . Went there to get fruit from the fruit stand and I asked to use the bathroom . We drove from town in traffic, Also I just had a baby. The man there was very mean and rude, looked me strait on and curtly told me the bathroom was closed. I'm not one to complain, and they aren't known for being nice or friendly (ever), but the sheer meanness was appalling and worth sharing. Even though my family was planning to drop hundreds of dollars today , we left. You should know to bring your own urinal even though they charge an arm and a leg for fruit, and know what kind of people you are giving your money to. Just put it in google maps and trust the directions even though it seems remote and there's no signage. And when u find the unassuming front gate that seems like a private driveway with a small sign just be brave and drive in. Drive straight past all their fruit trees to find a lovely business where they have beautiful unusual luscious fruit. Have some fresh fruit juice for $4 over ice. The pineapple juice is sweet and not tart. The lilikoi juice is sweet and tart. The mango juice is pure mango goodness. The proprietors are lovely friendly and helpful. Amazingly this business takes credit cards! It was a really nice experience we shared with our out of town guest. That's what's so nice about living in Hawaii. We discover new wonderful experiences whenever ppl come visit us. Definitely stop here if you're driving on this side.
