Shopping in Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii... Thanks to Donna O.'s tip, I learned that Mari's Gardens expanded to a THIRD location on the Windward side of the island! (They took over the former Ko'olau Farmers site, next to Wendy's.) Mari's Gardens started in Mililani. It may seem far for most folks, but that property is gigantic! They're famous for the Instagram-worthy Maneki Neko (good luck cat). The second location is a cozy spot in Honolulu - the parking is challenging for me, but it probably is no problem for the people who live in condominiums nearby. This third store is wonderful! There are treasures both inside and outside! Inside, the displays of orchids and anthuriums are stunning! There are freshly cut flowers for customers to make their own floral arrangements and many pots to make creations on the spot. If you need a snack, local vendors are supported (Ubae cookies, taro chips, bags of poi, Huff 'n Puff snacks, NOMS candy, Mango granola, dressings, eggs, fresh produce, etc.). Outside, the variety of plants was amazing! Besides succulents, colorful flowering plants, herbs, etc., there were larger planters, cinders, potting soil, top soil, and fertilizer! I actually ran out of fertilizer yesterday. On the first day of each month, I feed my plants so that I can provide flowers for floral arrangements at our church. Mom does the arranging. I just clean up and prep. Haha! Staff were very friendly and helpful. As I was debating on which fertilizer to purchase, I was assisted without my asking! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I can't wait to use the fertilizer next month and see the results! I'll be back!

I love how Mari's Gardens expanded their horizon... Oh congratulations on how her garden has grown from Mililani to Kailua, and though it's just a fraction of the size in comparison the love of everything plant related along with its humor is all there. You know you're there with the familiar "Mari's Gardens" sign right on the building as I overheard some thinking it's a cafe with two tables positioned right outside is taken back as soon as you enter seeing the various cool plant accessories weather you're building a terrarium or your own oasis the staff here are so happy to answer any of your questions. Out back there are plants, plants and more plants and what I love about here over the other locations is they have a huge varieties of herbs. Everything from Basil to Spearmint most in mini starter pots that already are thriving in the open blazing Kailua sun you know it will thrive at home with love. Parking will be the biggest challenge so plan your visit there are only a few stalls and the dead end parking makes it impossible if it's full. I've asked if they do repotting like Mari's Urban Garden do and said in the future they're planning to do so which makes gift giving a breeze from this garden of Mari's. Thank you!

Excellent service, nice items for gifts, beautiful and healthy plants, great selections of seeds for planting at very reasonable prices. The store is also bright, spacious, airy and relaxing to shop in. They also have nice vegetables in the refrigerators! Josh was very helpful, professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Will be back!

Knowledgeable staff Beautiful ambiance Gorgeous modern plants and pots and everything Dog friendly Tables are for classes they are planning on havingI I came to Mari's gardens looking for a plant that I could hang in a glass on my wall...I know sounds silly but see my photos to understand what I mean. Anyways, upon entering Mari's gardens I had no expectaions since it had recently took on new ownership after Koolau had closed. The moment I walked I felt my jaw drop to the floor and I immediately grabbed my phone to take pictures and videos to show my friends. It is beautiful in here. They completely changed the vibe of the entire space which makes it more inviting and almost more purposeful. They have tables lining the inside for future classes and different types of pots to choose from on the back wall, along with a station where you can make your own terrarium too! The entire place is completely revamped and seemed ot have everything one would need. They kept the outdoor space with the green house and other larger plants, and soil area, along with larger pots for outdoor plants/trees. They also had a cute succulent area with a large variety to choose from. The girl I spoke with was really helpful and was able to guide me to find what I was looking for to fit my space on my wall with a plant hanging from a glass. She offered opinions and plants that were within my budget and never tried to talk me out of something (which has happened before at other plant stores). I recommend going here over any other garden shop, even if it is to just check it out for the first time.

Super Bowl Sunday @Mari's! This nursery has a great selection of plants, and the store is beautiful to shop in. The people working here were friendly, cheerful, and so helpful. Thank you to Sarah for repotting my 2 orchid plants. For showing me how to do it, we talked about orchid potting mediums, she showed me what healthy orchid roots should look like. Now I feel reassured that I can care for my orchids, without harming them. See you soon

Beautiful indoor and outdoor plants. On the expensive side but you'll find a variety of different plants you might not see anywhere else.

Remedy for slugs or snails eating my plant foliage?

Slugs are attracted to moisture and shade. Avoid overwatering, and accumulation of dead leaves and grass. There are a couple of solutions that I can think of. The first of course is to trim foliage back to avoid damp areas. Another solution is to…

I had learned about Hui Kū Maoli Ola years ago when I still lived on the mainland. I moved back…read morehome a few months ago and finally made it out to the east side to visit! Apple Maps kept trying to take me to Papahana Kualoa for some reason. Fortunately, it's a loop so if your navigation does that, just get back on to Ha'ikū Road. If you're driving makai on Ha'iku Road, the nursery driveway will be on your left shortly after passing Kahuhipa Street/the He'eia Preschool sign on your right. If you're driving mauka on Ha'ikū Road, look for the green and white Hui Kū Maoli Ola sign on your right, just before Kahuhipa Street/the He'eia Preschool sign on your left. It's a relatively small nursery but still worth a visit, especially if you're searching for or have questions about native and endemic plants. I saw other reviews that one of the staff members was rude and unhelpful but maybe there was a staffing change since then because I had a great experience. The staff member (not sure about her name but a haole lady) was very welcoming and happy to answer any questions I had. There are greenhouses towards the back but those are for their seedings not ready for sale yet so kapu unless you wanted to check out the ferns for sale in that area, then a staff member can guide you there. Otherwise, everything for sale is out in front in the open area. Sections marked with red flags are already spoken for though. There are mostly the same plants you can find at the hardware stores they sell to (City Mill, Home Depot) but I did find a kou plant which I hadn't been able to find at my local City Mill or Home Depot. They also have larger sizes of plants than they typically sell at stores. If you're interested in something but don't see it out in the nursery, don't be afraid to ask a staff member! They brought out this big 'ilima for me from the back because I didn't see any in front. I was hoping to find ko'oloa'ula too but they're still prepping the seeds. If you live far away, you could call ahead to check too. This organization does amazing work not just providing native and endemic plants for businesses and the public but also education! Their website is a wealth of knowledge, as are the staff members. I like how the plant descriptions on the signs (even at Home Depot) are written in plain language with some humor thrown in. For more info, another great resource online is Plant Pono. According to their website, Hui Kū Maoli Ola offers plant rentals for events too, though I haven't used that service.
