It certainly reduces the risk of the dumpling tearing, which happened with a mushroom one. The broth, pork, and casing were all simply prepared. The pumpkin balls ended up being the highlight of the meal. They came out hot with a crispy exterior to the sweet batter that was soft just under the shell that formed. (We should have given it another minute on the table to let the outside cool and the custard center more time to warm up.) The decor reflects the restaurant's consciously familiar approach. The general design resembles Chinese-American restaurants of the 70s and 80s, with pictures of temples on wall hangings and actual 80s style chairs at each table. But in 2025, the chairs read as delightfully retro and the hangings lend an airiness and light to the whole space. And the price is right. An order of soup dumplings could be a whole meal for $12.

The worst service in town I ever had. Firstly, there was only one waiter in this restaurant, this person was also the cashier, so you could imagine how dramatic this would go. I waited for 60mins to ask where the menu was and where I could sit. Secondly, the waiter lied to me that there was no soup dumpling anymore in that day. However, when I almost finished my dishes, I heard another person who just came in said: "I couldn't believe I was such lucky that I bought the last soup dumpling!!!" Excuse me? Didn't the waiter tell me there was no soup dumping anymore, then why this person could get "the last one"? Third, the waiter didn't give me any chopstick, napkins, forks or spoons. When I tried to ask this waiter to give me some tablewares, I couldn't find her at all. I had to eat all the buns with the napkins I brought by myself. Fourth, the food here was bad, the bun with pork was so oily and the pork inside bun was so little, but the skin of bun was so thick, that when you bit it at the beginning you had no meat but the skin. Wow! What an experience! I had a phenomenal time with my friend "Chuck" A.K.A "C S.". We were pretty clueless as to how to consume Korean BBQ and the staff was very friendly and helpful in explaining how to make and consume such delicious, savory meats. The owner, who kindly introduced herself as "Helen" politely explained how to use particular dipping sauces and gave us complimentary dumplings. At last, an authentic Shanghai Restaurant in Champaign/Urbana. For lunch, Kung Fu serves yummy Baos (meat and vegetables), freshly squeezed Soybean milk, shanghai shumei (steamed dumplings with sweet rice, chinese ham), steamed juicy pork buns (comparable to those in Shanghai) and many more goodies. The waitress asked my girlfriend and me to wait for 2 hours for the food and when we asked her where our order was, she said she called our number and nobody responded so she just threw food in garbage and now she had to ask chief to make them again and if we didn't want to wait anymore, we could just leave without refund of our money.
