Kung Fu Tea has great drink options and the servers are always so nice! I love the rose hip tea and classic tarp tea. I even get the biggest size most of the time because it's so good. Earlier this summer, I was told that the Charlottesville KFT was going to launch a line of alcoholic drinks and I was offered an opportunity to try one! I was blown away by the Blue Lychee Lemonade, which uses Blue Curacao and Bacardi and comes with a lychee jam that has lychee bits inside. As per a recommendation, I asked for the crystal bubbles in the drink, which are chewy agar bubbles that are lighter than normal tapioca bubbles. The drink itself is a pretty clear blue color, super aesthetically pleasing especially with the lychee floating around. There was a hint of citrus (not too overwhelming), but it did not overpower the lemonade taste. I was prepared for it to be very strong, since the drink contained about 2-3 shots worth of alcohol, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it went down very smoothly. The crystal bubbles were also an amazing addition to the drink, since they matched the fruity lychee flavor and the textures of the toppings worked well with the taste. Being a chain, Kung Fu Tea in Charlottesville is exactly what I expected from going to other locations, and satisfied my bubble tea craving. I got the matcha slush and the taro milk tea, and both had the right balance of cream and tea flavor. I like KFT because you can customize your drink -- from the amount of sugar, to the toppings, to the ice. They were extremely busy on a Saturday evening so service was a little slower, but you could tell the employees were working really hard behind the counter cranking out drinks non-stop for their waiting costumers so I can't even hold that against them. read more

I think I showed up late to the bubble tea craze, but I've jumped in now, face first. For the past two months, I've tried approximately ten different tea places and the Kung Fu Tea in Charlottesville remains my top choice! They offer an endless variety of flavors, tea types, sweetness levels and toppings. It was a bit overwhelming trying to figure out what and how to order in the beginning, but the staff is so nice, knowledgeable and (most importantly) PATIENT. They have been a huge help in enabling my new addiction . The boba here is fresh; the perfect amount of chewiness. The portion of boba as a topping is also very generous. I never run out of bubbles while enjoying my large tea. The quality of the tea itself is definitely superior to other places I've tried. The matcha is especially delicious. It's not grainy at all and it is a rich, green color. I love knowing that they're using quality ingredients. The taro is also quality and the best taro I've had so far. In addition to many of the milk teas, I've also tried a hot tea and a punch tea and they were just as addictively delicious. During my last visit, I felt adventurous and ordered red bean topping with my boba. SO good!! I have been to this Kung Fu tea location numerous times after realizing I have a Boba addiction. The KFT in Charlottesville started me off right with the Matcha sesame milk tea and I haven't looked back since hunting for the best of the best bubble teas. This location is pretty clean inside and has plenty space/seating to house the hoards of people that come in and out to get their Boba fixes. The staff here are knowledgeable and very kind/helpful. They can give you incite on the ingredients and different teas on their vast menu. I love the rewards program and free drinks and discounts stack up quickly so the rate that I visit here. I often find myself buying four teas when I drive a hour and a half back to home after work. 1 for me to drink on the way, 1 to drink when I get home, 1 for the lady and 1 experimental for us to share hahaha. Craving for some boba on my short trip to Cville and I was SO pleasantly surprised that a KFT opened right on the periphery of UVA campus. KFT is my absolute favorite boba chain and this location definitely meets the bar. Ordered my go-to, oolong milk tea with boba, less ice, and half sugar. It did not disappoint. This location is one of the better KFTs I've been, very spacious with large windows, plenty of seating with wooden tables, and a couch area in the back with games like Jenga. The flavor was good just like any other bubble tea shop in NYC and the service was great too. The minute I leave Kung Fu Tea, I am craving it again. It's always a long few days or weeks or months until I return again, no matter how frequent. I've loved Bubble Tea and the establishments that serve them for years, but Kung Fu Tea has taken this love to a new level for me. First of all, the bubbles are so sweet and so perfectly soft and chewy. I know that might sound weird to someone that doesn't know how wonderful bubble tea is, but if you do know, you know the disappointment that comes when you get bubbles that aren't cooked enough. I also love how customizable all the teas are. I can ask for light ice, no extra sugar (the Taro tea that I love is already sweet without it!), and extra bubbles. You can really get the perfect combo in your tea that works for you at this spot. And it is expected that you customize it- it doesn't make you feel like that annoying customer with needs just because you want your tea the way you want it (I feel like this other places I order drinks, sometimes) I always get the Taro milk tea with, like I just said, light ice, no sweetener, and extra bubbles. It is amazing in every way. I highly suggest it. I have also tried the classic milk tea, and it was great. There's really no going wrong here. I'm so happy Kung Fu Tea has come to Cville! It's a big space inside, although the location isn't the most convenient for walking and the parking is kind of cramped. My favorite is the winter melon milk green tea, which you can always count on for good taste. I thought the bubbles were a good consistency too. They recently added banh mi to their menu. It's specific to this location, not from the official franchise, so they only accept cash or venmo for the banh mi (no card), which may be inconvenient for some. I tried the banh mi today, and I thought it was pretty good. Good flavors, veggies, and bread, although the meat was a little dry. All in all, I'm glad that there's a place nearby where I can get banh mi and bubble tea when I'm craving it. So excited that there's a new, stand-alone boba place in town! I've been here twice and have left happy with my drinks so far. You can customize ice level and sweetness level like authentic bubble tea shops, and there's tons of options including dairy free milk teas and slushes! I've had the Kung Fu Milk Tea which had the fragrant touch of jasmine green tea mixed with oolong tea and the Coconut Milk Tea which was creamy. If you order the medium and want boba added, I recommend requesting half the boba amount because the portion can be a little overwhelming compared to the volume of drink. It's still relatively new so service can be a little slow, but staff is friendly. Finally a decent bubble place shop in Charlottesville, I've been waiting for so long! Kung Fu Tea is one of the more authentic bubble tea chains I've seen in the U.S. There's a ton of options to pick from as well as room for customization. Just like the bubble tea shops in Taiwan (where I grew up), you can select the amount of sugar and ice you want in your tea. The teas are freshly made and so is the boba. The boba is a bit on the softer side but is still wonderfully delicious! There are also different jellies to pick from for those who don't care for boba. The shop has plenty of tables and a sofa area as well as free wifi. The staff is friendly and welcoming. There's also parking in front of the shop- thank goodness. I'd heard from my students that this is a great new restaurant, but my first time here was a disappointment. There were two young women working, and there was only one person in line ahead of me. Somehow they managed to make me wait a very long time for my order (more than the "5-7 minutes" quoted, which is when I asked where my order was), and even got it wrong. They gave me shrimp dumplings, when I ordered pork, mushroom and green onion buns. Rather than wait again for the right order and deal with the snotty staff member, I just took my wrong order and returned to work. It also is pretty environmentally unfriendly. They shrink wrap a lid on a plastic cup and shake the milk teas in what looks like a modified paint mixer. It doesn't seem that there's an option for personal cups. Pretty awesome ambiance -- I could stay here for hours just chatting with friends while drinking bubble tea or playing jenga or uno (they have a large selection of games to play). I am a huge fan of Kung Fu Tea, especially the Charlottesville location. The staff are always super friendly, and their recent launch of alcoholic bubble tea is very exciting! My favorite tea is the grapefruit green tea, but this location seems to be permanently out of it. Therefore, my go to is the honey black tea (pictured). I personally find their default sweetness overwhelmingly sweet, so I usually opt for the 50% sugar. They have a variety of interesting toppings available, but my favorites are definitely the boba, the lychee crystal bubbles, and the aloe vera. All three have unique textures and flavors. The boba is very chewy and sweet, while the aloe vera (my personal favorite) is a refreshing addition to many of the classic/punch teas. I would also suggest trying the milk cap at least once: it's delicious! I would highly recommend downloading the app and using it to pay in store: they are constantly having special happy hours and promotions so that you can get a great deal on your drink!
