I met Dr. Kunin approximately 20 years ago. By my second visit he had won my admiration and friendship. In my opinion he stood out from the other Veterinarians I had worked with in the past. Not only did he know his craft extremely well, he also has a caring side for both animal and owners alike. I believe his drive to be a veterinarian came from growing up on a farm and dealing with the suffering of many animals. I believe he wanted to make a difference and do what he could to help animals in peril...which I believe he's done. During my recent time there, I also dealt with two of the other doctors during my difficulties with my dog, Loki (who was going though kidney shut down). It became a 3-way effort with his team, including Dr. Nardi and Dr. Barker. These doctors also have that rare quality of being truly invested in the work they do. I do not know how Dr. Kunin has the ability (or luck) to attract the quality of veterinarians he does, but I am extremely grateful. I can't overstate my admiration for the Doctors, but also for the staff as well. Their technician, Dior, helped with Loki's daily injections. She would greet us with a warm and caring smile. With her kindness, she eventually won Loki over and made a daunting experience bearable. The royal treatment did not end there. If Dior wasn't available, Alejandro, Stephen, Brittany and Yusmary took over with the same enthusiasm and kindness. Senior technicians April and Jennifer always comforted me with therapeutic advice and words of wisdom. Their administrative staff, Alexandra and Jessica kept everything well organized and communicated my needs to the Doctors. I want to mention these technicians, because they are the backbone of this veterinarian clinic and deserves praise for their work. Everyone made it a friendly and comfortable situation every time I walked into the office. Not to mention they added close to a year of quality and happiness to Loki's life. Dr. Kunin's office and administrative staff made me feel as if they were caring for their own pet when they were caring for Loki. Again, my deepest thanks to you all. Loki eventually succumbed to her illness. The team at Veterinary Medical Center comforted me through it all. To this day, I look upon them as friends for life. I will always be grateful to everyone who worked at Veterinary Medical Center. Losing a pet is difficult. I wish I could give them all medals, trophies and a week's vacation in Hawaii ending with an extravagant ceremony for the exceptional service they give on a daily basis. Absolutely hate and mistrust businesses who do business this way... I have a new puppy we needs to get neutered. After a long hold I asked if I could get a price for the procedure... the receptionist said absolutely not and I would have to come in, pay for a check up ($90?) and only then would I be bestowed the honor of having a price provided by this legendary, esteemed vet clinic. What a absolute load of steamy, smelly,....! Its interesting because the 3-4 other places I called where more than happy to provide a phone consultation for price. No one else gave this BS you need to come pay for a check up first before giving you price run around. I work in retail and businesses that operate like this are never customer friendly; its always their bottom line first. Its basically this.. we (Kunin) are making too much money (Covid has been an absolute BOOM for vets, bad ones included), we don't really need new clients, but if any fool wants to become one lets at the very least milk them for a juicy initial consultation fee - nothing provided for free. We have heard wonderful things of Dr kunin living in Woodland Hills over 20 years but had another vet that we go to. Once that Vet retired we decided to move over to Dr Kunin. I am grateful they are still open to take care of our pets Due to the Corona Virus. We were not allowed to go inside the building. Instead Alexis the staff came to us to get our info then the Tech goes out to pick up the dogs. We are impressed how wonderful the Tech Marco is with Rufus and the were busy going back and forth with dogs and clip boards. We did have to wait but it seems to go smoothly. We finally met Dr kunin. Such a sweet intelligent man. He really cared for his patients and will not ask you to do unnecessary tests. Thank you . I will be bringing my other two dogs here too. read more

We had several dogs that went to Dr. Kunin and he has always be fantastic. However, the rest of the office is just awful. The last straw was when we took our dog to be put down. They said they would send in a doctor (not Kunin) to check him first. He came in and listened to his chest for one minute and said he agreed it was time and left the room. They asked if we wanted to get his ashes. On the way out they presented a bill for $250 which I thought was for his cremation. A few weeks later we get a bill from the crematorium asking for $200 to release his ashes and they were in Sun Valley to come get them. When I called Kunin's office they said the $250 was for $180 for seeing the doctor (literally one minute) and the rest for the medications. On one of your saddest days when you just lost one of your "babies" they should not be discussing money on the way out. The crazy part is when we put our last dog down 10 years prior they didn't charge at all. I really feel that when someone brings their dog in after being a patient for 13 years to be put down that is not the right time to try and make more money. read more

Dr Kunin is the best! Considerate, practical, knowledgeable, doesn't try to oversell. I don't think you could find a better veterinarian. The only downside to his office is the level of inconsistency with the administrative/front desk staff. Some of the girls are extremely helpful, want to help the animal owners (the clients) and are willing to roll up their sleeves to help. Others, though, clearly were not meant to be in the "service" related role. They are short, put you on a long hold for long periods of time never to return/passed off to someone else, put up roadblocks to help, and are unknowledgeable about treatment, administrative items, communication from client to doctor, or medical processing. Hope this gets read by the office and some coaching is put into place. We clients and animal lovers just want to see a certain level of willingness and excitement to help us and our ailing pets. read more

The reception team used to be very friendly and I liked Dr. Kunin but it's too difficult to get an appointment with him. The 2 vet techs are very good too. This time I had to wait 45 minutes to see the Dr. Dr. Wright was worthless and the reception and billing clerk were unfriendly and when I questioned the bill they were arguementative. He should read the file before he talks to me about my dog. He first thought my dog was a girl and one year old. He's 2 1/2. I asked him if he had the right file. It's a good thing I only had a few questions, he spent about 2 minutes with me for a $67 office visit....That's ridiculous! The total bill came to $166 which included an injection I didn't even authorize....what a rip off!! read more

We have been taking our beloved pets to Stan for over 25 years. This week our 13 year lab was unable to urinate and very uncomfortable. We live about 30 minutes from Veterinary Medical Center and it was after 5 pm and because of her age I panicked and took her to a local ER. It was a horrible experience . Not any better the next day I called to get into see Stan. Due to COVID many Vet clinics have closed, redirecting to only a few clinics. That said when I called to get an appointment Stan was triple booked but they spoke to Stan and he fit me in between his surgical cases. After performing an ultrasound it appeared to be a poor diagnosis but unsure he referred us to a specialist. Seeing I was distraught he had his staff call and get us in that afternoon to the specialist and thankfully the news was good. Stan is an amazing doctor and human being. He understands that your pets are your family and provides outstanding appropriate care . No matter how busy he is, he makes you feel that your pet is his only concern. WORSE EXPERIENCE 35 YEAR DOG OWNER HAS EVER HAD WITH A VET . Brought my four year old German Shepard in (as a new patient for an annual check up) who has been part of my family, including small children and other cats and dogs, since she was six weeks old. She is a love and a joy and has never hurt a fly. She does not like being at the vet. Dr. Kunin asked me to lift her lips so he could examine her teeth while his tech just stood by his side. She was patient until he prompted me to stretch her lips open and up to see her back molars and then she 'yipped,' not "yelped." As part of her training with a professional the first thing she learned as a puppy was never to put teeth on skin, which she has not done and did not do. DR. KUNIN'S OPINION AND MEDICAL ADVICE: DEATH TO THE DOG. Having known us less then 10 minutes, he interpreted her yip, (not quite a yelp), as terminally aggressive and as a sign that she did not trust me. It was his opinion that she be put down immediately. Even though he knew she did not bite me and has never harmed anyone he was certain that no lesser measure would be effective as her aggressions, based on his unsubstantiated and absurd interpretation, would escalate with age toward untold proportions and eventually result in her mauling me, her owner/mom/best friend. STILL IN SHOCK...it is not even worth commenting on the inept personnel he chooses to surround himself with whose attempts at damage control did not help. Confusing and misleading are the positive experiences others have described about this vet on this site. DR. KUNIN IS PRESUMPTIVE TO THE POINT OF INHUMANE....HE HAS NO CONCEPT AND A CRUEL, AT BEST, UNDERSTANDING OF ANIMAL BEHAVIOR I have heard from neither Dr. Kunin or his office since leaving in tears. But am happy to report...I have not been mauled by my furry best friend and will continue to to work every day to earn, not enforce or assume, her trust...starting by finding a less lethal vet. read more

First of all, I want to start by saying what a stellar veterinarian Dr. Kunin is. We have been coming to his vet for YEARS. He is compassionate, patient and very informative. You are treated as if your pet is his only patient. That being said, today I witnessed something that I have never seen in all my life. It was quite an unbelievable scene. I sat across the waiting room from a patient who was visibly upset at the suggestion that her older cat be vaccinated for rabies. Dr. Kunin and his staff were not pushy to this patient but they did try to reiterate a few times how important this shot was for her cat,.and not to mention the law. A clinic can refuse to treat your pet if you refuse this. This woman wanted none of it, she was livid that they would suggest this (really?!?!), and she literally erupted into a verbal assault on Dr. Kunin and his staff. This woman got up in the face of one of their very well-liked vet tech's, Jennifer, screaming an array of vile obscenities at her until she was asked to leave, numerous times, in which she continued to verbally assault the staff. At last, Dr. Kunin had to escort this woman outside. She simply would not leave and would not calm down. I was disturbed. Among this entire ordeal, the woman's 14 year old child sat and witnessed this and I was frankly appalled. Now the reason for my review is NOT to complain about a woman I'm certainly sure I'll never see again (I hope), but to follow up from her very POOR review just below mine. Wow, Faith. It is an incredibly inaccurate portrayal of a clinic my family and many friends have grown to love and trust over the past 15 years. Dr. Kunin has been our Vet for our Yorkshire Terriers. The Dr. is deaf but I think that his infliction gives him a 6th sense in the care of animals. He is uncanny in determining our dogs problems when they occur. It seems as though they communicate with him to let him know what's wrong. I wish I had a video of Dr. Kunin CHASING me into the parking lot while YELLING at me that I'm a "nasty, mean selfish woman" for refusing a rabies vaccination for my 16-year old indoor cat. I nearly called the police to report him for assault before he finally left me alone. Their reason for refusing treatment unless I allowed them to vaccinate a 16 year old INDOOR cat? A rabid bat could fly in the window. In 30 years of being a pet parent, I have never had anyone try to force me to vaccinate an indoor cat. And I certainly have never had a vet chase me into the parking lot and yell insults at me for refusing. Unfathomable. Run the other way as fast as you can. read more

We love him and how he cares for our pets and for us. Dr. Kunin saved my dog's life and is her hero. When she was bit from a rattlesnake some years back, I had to take her to that awful emergency place on Winnetka and Ventura because it was a holiday weekend. The bills started adding up (over 2000) and she was not getting any better. Her face was as swollen as 3 chipmunks, and she was in incredible distress. They did not even know if she was going to make it. When his clinic opened, I brought her there and within a day the swelling was down, and she was at least 50% out of the discomfort she was in. Within a couple of days, she was finally ready to get out of there, and because Dr. Kunin was aware I spent so much money on her and did not have much more to spend, he only charged me for her medicine (after putting an INCREDIBLE amount of time into saving her life) I will always be indebted to him for that, and for her incredible, 100% recovery No one in this country has a better method for treating rattlesnake bites. This man is a Dr. Doolittle and it doesn't get any better than him read more

Dr Kunin has been our vet for over 12 years now. His friendly staff has cared for (and sadly grieved) our misfit herd as if they were their own. He actually called me crying when my beloved Rottweiler "Buzz" passed away two years ago. His prices are reasonable, his advice is precious, and he never charges more than you need. He has always been trustworthy, he truly loves what he does. I have never hesitated to give his practice as a referral to all of my animal loving clients and friends. I have never received anything but extreme praise for the referral. In these times it is so important to have trust in your care providers. Especially when the ones you care for have no voice. P.S. I have been a client of Dr. Kunin for about 15 years. I have two dogs and I have sent many people to his practice. He is wonderful with my dogs. I will never forget how he sat on the floor for at least 15 minutes to play with my new puppy to check her temperment and pronouced her a great dog for my family. This was after having a dog that bit everyone including us. Dr. Kunin worked with us and that dog for a long time including giving him Prozac, working with trainers etc to rehabilitate him. He also brought my rescued Lhasa Apso back to good health after two weeks at the pound where he got a host of things like mange, kennel cough and a staph infection. I have never experienced anything but great service from the front desk. We adore Dr. Kunin. We drive 18 miles to see him with our two dogs. read more

A friend recommend Dr Kunin, he's great. Since it's his practice my guess is he fills up pretty quickly so for rush appointments you might have to see someone else. I've see Dr wright twice and I really like him, great bedside manner, thoughtful, takes time and talks with you. So fear not if Kunin is busy Dr wright is great too! Price wise...gosh all vets make me glad I have a visa :) not much different than anywhere else $60 visit...$100 X-ray, shot for anti inflammatory $45 and so on...but there are quality and it's the cost of having a pet. Recently switched to Dr. Kunin based on recommendation from a groomer. He is the most compassionate and knowledgable vet I've ever taken my dog to. He takes the time to both listen and explain medications and procedures. Most of all he is so fair on the pricing. Place is very clean and has great parking in the back of the building. I went to Dr. Kunin with my Kerry Blue Terrier & cat for 14 years, when he was just starting out,and he was so exceptional that I wished he were MY personal doctor. Now we have a new puppy, 10 years later, and I am back again. I expect, he is even better now, with more experience. He still has 2 excellent assistants, who have been there 17 years. Fortunately, I didn't have to meet the rude office manager, as she is gone. Dr. Kunin is an exceptional person and vetinarian, compassionate, hard working, honest, and loves his work. Dr. Kunin was recommended to me by a friend, but before I went I looked up the facility online. I read some negative messages about the front office staff, which made me hesitant, but I still decided to go there. My experience was wonderful. My dog was very nervous and scared and despite being busy, Dr. Kunin and the Vet Techs just really spent the time with us to make him feel comfortable. I was very impressed with the attention and care my dog (and I) received. I've been to the facility several times since and I've never once had a negative encounter. I LOVE this office. I see both doctors, but mostly see Dr. Latos. He is the most compassionate person. Both doctors are excellent. I have a lot of animals, and every one of them has received the best care from this vet office. Unlike other reviewers, I have never had any problems with the office staff. They are kind and considerate. Sometimes very busy. But if they need to put you on hold, they first ask if your call is an emergency. Whenever I have an urgent issue, I have always been squeezed in. I have been coming to this office since I could walk.. All of my dogs have came here and so have my mothers dog and my neighbors dogs.. Dr Kunin is a very up front and honest. His heart is in the best interest of the animals. I love how all cats must be crated. I have a dogs how cannot tolerate cats and it makes waiting much easier. I have been to offices where people just sit and hold their cats. Now to get to his front office.. They are AMAZING.. very kind, loving people. Sometimes you have to repeat your self but why be mad they have a lot going on it is a vet office and they are working with animals.. With animals you never know what is going to happen.. The best thing i can say about this vet is the staff pretty much stays the same. its pretty rare to see a new face there.. every time i go i see the same faces which is nice! read more

I found Dr. Kunin on yelp and I'm so thankful for it. As you walk in, it's clean. Super clean actually. Actually smells more like a dental office than a Vet office, that's how clean it is. You are then greeted by very friendly staff who are really welcoming. The front desk girls were awesome. They checked us in and then we were instructed to wait in the SUPER CLEAN waiting area. Seriously, I'm really impressed by how clean and nice it was. I was then called back to one of the exam rooms and again, SUPER CLEAN. I initially met with Mario, his nurse. He's awesome. Very knowledgable and really eased any concerns and answered all the questions I had. He was patient and didn't make me feel like my questions were crazy. After our puppy was weighed and her temperature was taken, Dr. Kunin came in to examine her. Dr. Kunin is truly amazing. As mentioned in another review, he truly has the BEST bedside manner with pets and their owners! He thoroughly examined our puppy and answered any concerns or questions I had. He didn't rush in and out. He spent his time, answered my questions and was just overall great! I highly recommend Dr. Kunin and his staff to anyone looking for a vet. So the doctor himself is a very good vet. I've taken my last two dogs to him for years! No issues at all. I called to make an appointment for my new puppy and the office person stated I was blacklisted. I've always had a good relationship w Dr. Kunin and he's always taken good care of my previous dogs. I was in shock when they told me that and when I inquired as to why all they said was I can't tell you. Really?? If I have a file with them, they could have dug a little deeper considering I've had two dogs I've taken there. I don't want to knock Dr. Kunin cause he's a great vet and that's why I kept it at 3 stars but his support staff is no good. Show a little compassion, inquire more and be helpful. read more

Dr. Kunin is SUPERB. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE VETERINARIAN. His office staff on the other hand are rude and unhelpful. They tell you they will call you back, and no one does. Yet your dog continues to suffer while you patiently wait for a call that NEVER COMES. When you call them back after 6 hours no one apologizes to you and instead, you get put on hold. When they FINALLY come back on the phone they are unable to help you or offer you what you were previously prescribed. SO DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND BYPASS THIS OPERATION. Until he has hired and trained a compassionate caring staff his practices will continue to lose clients. read more
