What i don't understand is why is this place charging me a custom tip they put themselves for a TO GO order i had placed early this evening... Tip is supposed to be optional if i wanted to and usually when i eat at a restaurant that's serving me. This is beyond embarrassing for them that they would feel ENTITLED to a customer's wallet without their consent, at any cost really. I will never eat here again. It pains me to give a place 2 star but as a sushi lover, I would give them 1 star for the food and 4 stars for the service. I started with a classic spider roll (totally mush with only a small portion of crispy soft shell crab so would give it 1 star). Ordered 2 nigiri (scallop and hamachi) and it was probably the best thing of the meal (but they weren't great). Went on to a baked scallop roll (I thought maybe it being hot would be better and it was a pile of mush, little scallop and a whopping of fake crab. Then (I guess I didn't learn my lesson, and had their "special" volcano roll. Basically a roll of mush with a ton of "their special sauce" on it. If you like McDonalds food (or don't have any teeth) and have never had sushi, you'll love this place! read more

We were told that was a good lunch spot. We went in to order take out on May 19th at about1:30, soon after they opened. I grabbed some menus off the table to look. The menus were greasy and had food stuck on one of them. They did not look like they had been cleaned in a while. When I mentioned it to the hostess, she shrugged her shoulders. If they can't keep the plastic coated menus clean, I doubt they can keep anything else clean. We did not eat there and will not entertain even going back there. This is a hard pass! read more

Pretty good place to go to grab some sushi. Conveyor belt style is a pretty cool way to enjoy your food. You can also order anything you want off the menu which is always helpful. Overall, expectations are met for presentation, service, and flavor. For a couple bucks, they do a really good miso soup as well, which I enjoy. read more

We've come here for years but the quality and quantity has diminished, as the prices have gone up. I just got Ichiros tonight. No tobiko on it. Really? The price of the miso has doubled, and it doesn't even have tofu pieces in it anymore. Popcorn shrimp price went way up and you get half as much as you used to. For the price and area, it would be nice if their flimsy chairs weren't held together with duct tape, too. read more

One of my favorite go to spots for much! I love that I can get a little bit of everything & it's really inexpensive. The deep fried jalapeño has to be my favorite! The location is one of the best!! Right by the water so it calls for a nice walk after eating. Customer service is always great & everyone is greater upon entering. For what this place offers, the food is great. My favorite roll is the seared salmon roll. Some of their basic rolls are pretty good to! Service was also good. Only reason why this is not 5 stars is because I had to remind them about a roll I ordered because they must've forgot to put it in. I'm not a sushi connoisseur, I don't even have a clue what I ate...I think some had shrimp and some had crab? I can't work chopsticks and I hate wasabi. Curiously I didn't hate this place, in fact I kinda liked it. It is truly entertaining, watching the different dishes circle the counter and guessing which ones don't have raw fish. (I think I might have guessed wrong on one...ew). The service is excellent and the place is clean, and despite choosing one exotic roll that I didn't finish, all the other stuff I ate tasted fresh and delicious. First thing that struck me as off were the visible bones in my salmon nigiri. Thankfully they were easy to remove, and I only found two. As for the taste of the sushi itself, it was fine, the fish tasted good, however the sushi rice seemed way too sweet to me. My brother, who I attended with, agreed that it may have had too much vinegar. This made it a bit difficult to taste the fish, which was slightly disappointing. The miso soup also lacked tofu or seaweed, so it was quite plain, although the broth tasted good. The conveyer belt itself was also a bit disorganized, with plates of sushi being placed randomly rather than being labeled. To identify what something was, you had to look at the extensive menu, with a lot of similar looking rolls, so what you got ended up being a bit of guess work. This was fine for me as I just stuck with California roll variants, but for someone with allergies or food restrictions this might be an issue. At one point during the meal, the host went outside to smoke, the smell of which drifted in through the open door, and continued to drift inside as he re-entered the building, cigarette in hand. This may not be a major issue for most, but the smell of smoke is something that makes me lose my appetite instantly. The main appeal of this establishment for me was the fast service, the convenience of the conveyer belt, and the relatively cheap prices for the sushi. All in all it was just okay, but I probably would not return unless it was my only option for sushi. read more

At one point this place was my reference for cheap mid grade sushi. I don't know what happened in the last few months, but this place has gone downhill QUICKLY. The portions are nothing compared to what they once were and the price is nearly doubled. The flavors this last trip were just all wrong. Nigiri was slimy and gritty, California rolls tasted like bad mayo, and everyone around us seemed to be saying the same things. Something changed here. read more

Overall, the fish quality is really fresh & the prices are pretty solid. I would recommend getting the Salmon , as it's really good & affordable. Ultimately, most of the rolls have an artificial crab, base and are differentiated by the topping fish, so the taste can get pretty repetitive. Wow this was such a long wait for such bad sushi. The tables and floors are dirty. There are menus on the table to augment sushi on the conveyor belt. The conveyor belt is very dirty with bits of rice, fish and such all over the place. The staff is harried and rushed. If you want extra ginger there is a charge. We reluctantly ate items from the conveyor belt and found the sushi fish propped on a little mound of rice, and the quality of the fish was suspicious. Did not look fresh. I ordered the seared albacore and it was over cooked and chewy. We left worried we would be sick that night. No outdoor dining. Small place with only four or five tables. Poor hygiene in the kitchen. The sushi guys have long fluffy beards, long hair and no hair nets! And as they were finishing meal service they were pulling items off the conveyor to assemble a group platter for their after shift meal!! read more

I went on a Friday night. Price seems good, but when the fish is cut half thin, then the price is just a standard. Some grain of rice are still hard. This is the first Japanese Restuarant ever that they do not have ponzu sauce to serve with spider roll. The worst is when you order something on the menu that is not on the belt. Chef will have to make it for you. When it is ready, the way they call you is they will knock the plate a few times with something close to his hands. I think that is very rude. read more

I have been coming to Kuru Kuru for years. I have never had issues with their food nor with the staff. Until I went last Friday, March 24th, 2023. I usually get my sushi rolls from the conveyor belt and any hot food (eggs rolls) I'll put an order in so they are warm and fresh. I did take one off the conveyor belt because I was so hungry, and to no surprise it was cold. I ordered through my server fresh egg rolls, they came back FROZEN! The owner lady tried to give me another one from the conveyor belt and I said no those are always cold. She proceeded to tell me she is charging me for the frozen egg rolls and all I wanted was fresh warm egg rolls. That night I was charged for 3 orders of egg rolls and 2/3 WERE COLD AND FROZEN. My server even told her they were frozen. The owner lady would not accommodate me, nor did she apologize. My server tried to fix my ticket before the rude owner got to it, but couldn't. My server was nice, sweet, and understood my complaint. The lady owner on the other hand, didn't care at all the type of food or service she was providing. I understand that some nights are busier than others, but as an owner you shouldn't treat people with the type of disrespect she gave me. I hope this review changes the way the staff at Kuru Kuru, especially the owner lady, treats their customers. I am very disappointed. read more

This restaurant's location is great and attracts locals and visitors who like sushi served in conveyor belts. During weekends and week nights, you will have to wait for a while to get seated. I don't mind waiting for a good food. However, their sushis (particularly rice) are not well prepared. Also, I happened to observe how they wash and clean sushi dishes. Walked in with my 3 year old son, he loves sushi, just the two of us on a SLOW Thursday evening just after 7pm They took us to the sushi bar, on the way I requested a table, we we're told they have to save the tables for parties of 3 or more. (Please accommodate the customers you have- not the ones that aren't there). Waiter sat us at two chairs at the bar, after settling in, another waitress came by and asked us to move to other seats. At this point I was annoyed but my son was hungry so we moved and he chose one plate from the belt. That plate was inedible! Very strong fish smell and taste, rice was crusty and all was room temperature. Set that one aside and ordered a baked scallop. It took quite awhile to get and the bottom 1/4 was hard. In the short time we stayed the place nearly emptied out. Overall, a terrible experience and will not be returning. read more

I've been a Kuru Kuru fan since they first opened as Bham's original conveyor belt sushi spot. They've always churned out consistently fresh, delicious sushi at a great value. My favorites are the seared salmon nigiri and the hamachi nigiri - both of which are rarely spotted on the conveyor belt, and must be ordered fresh. The service is always fast, and they have beer and wine which you can order while you wait if there's a line. They recently raised their prices very slightly (the first time since they opened) but this made a nominal difference in our bill on a recent visit. It's still my go-to sushi spot when I have a hankering for some raw fish. (And for you non-raw types, they have many cooked options as well.) read more

I've always wanted to visit a conveyor belt restaurant. Who knew we had one here in Bham? This one is on a jetty and kinda cool to go to. The place is nicely decorated and has a really nice feel to it when you walk in. They seated me quickly and the menus are at the table to help you understand the system. The different colored plates are different prices along with the grade of food design. The conveyor is at a decent speed if requested. they will make what you are looking for if not found on the belt. I found the food to be above average, colorful and very tasty. With the huge selection, and small servings. You really have a decent opportunity to sample many different variations of sushi. After a few plates, you really have a good taste of what the food is like here and it will hook you for the next time on your return. The service of the wait staff was attentive along with being friendly and helpful. Fast friendly sushi bar. Went for a late lunch. We were seated quickly at the sushi bar. One of the owners indicated they were not busy at the moment. Service was friendly and attentive, they seem to use a team-based format so multiple folks were keeping an eye on us. Struck mostly to the sushi bar items that trundled past on the conveyor. Edamame, spicy tuna rolls, Boston maki, potstickers...all the classics. Our server recommended a couple of items from the menu; the grilled scallops and grilled mushrooms. Both were deliciously saucey and loaded with crab meat. The sesame balls are a "shouldn't miss" closer for those who need something a little sweeter to finish with. Proper selection of Japanese and local beers. The location is beautiful, after your meal, or while you're waiting you can wander down to the harbor side (less than 5 mins walk) and watch the boats. A few other spots nearby to post up for a bevvy if you need to kill some time. Will certainly be back next time I'm in Bellingham. read more

Very nice staff, this review is only concerning the food. The avocado on half of the items was old and brown and the owner said it was because when they open them they're brown. Anyone that is familiar with avocado knows this means they are old and spoiled. The salmon had no flavor. The Kewpie mayo tasted like Hellman's with sugar added. Finally, their uni sushi was single handedly my the worst thing I have ever eaten. It tasted like how I would imagine a sewer from Atlantis would taste. Bitter, fishy, and absolutely disgusting. I couldn't help but chew and really think about whether or not to swallow and I had to spit it into my napkin. I'm sure it would have made me sick and honestly I still might get sick from eating the rest of the food we ate. read more

We've went there hundreds of times and today was the worst experience I've ever had. The Japanese lady in the front was so rude and was yelling at her staff in front of everyone. Made the entire experience awkward and not appealing. I will not go back to support this place! poor employees! Too bad one bad apple can ruin it for everyone. What a waste of money. I spent 85$ here and it was the worst sushi I've ever had! I've had better sushi in Idaho!!! The service was terrible, I could have walked out and not paid and no one would have noticed. The sushi on the go around table was dry and the fish was room temperature, definitely not what your looking forward to when u go to eat sushi especially so close to the water!! We were out of state visiting and wanted ocean front sushi. When we walked it it just looked nasty, the sushi chefs don't have hair net or gloves, the kitchen looked SO DIRTY! read more
