Clean and lovely store front
Gary B.

After driving from SeaTac to Bellingham with no breaks, all I wanted was comfort food and what YunGaNe offered was exactly what I wanted. Truthfully I ordered entirely too much food for a single person...I couldn't say no based in the description and picture in the menu...I honestly could have ordered everything. I ordered: Shrimp Tempura: appropriately crunchy Beef Bulgogi: Classic taste, exactly what I wanted for dinner Crazy Boy Kimchi: had a good spice but not overwhelming while the vegetables were not chewy-loved it! Deep fried Oreo cookies: I don't usually see this sort of dessert anywhere let alone at a Korean restaurant...had to give this a try...let me say that the cookie softened to the point where it was more like a chocolate goo while the tempura part was not as crispy as I expected. It was worth a try but not my favorite. Overall, YunGaNe has everything anyone wanting Korean cuisine could offer. I stuck with my comfort favorites and was more than satisfied. Everything about the atmosphere was lovely including the service.

Ban chan

The super patient and friendly waiter answered all my questions, as I couldn't be sure of some of the dishes without their Korean-English names (e.g, "Korean Sweet Potato Noodle" is actually Japchae). I got Kimchi Stew (Kimchi Jiigae), but I skipped the pork. This is one of my favorite Korean dishes, so I order it often when eating out. This one was very good, with the flavors I expect. They serve purple rice, which is a mixture of white rice and black rice (which changes the color of the white rice, but also adds nutritional benefits). My husband had Stone pot bibimbap (Dolsot bibimbap), but skipped the egg and bulgogi. He said it might be the best dolsot bibimbap he's ever had. Not just because of the rice (it's usually just bland white, so he found their purple rice far more tasty), but the nurungji was perfect - crisp, without being burned. There wasn't a lot, but it added to the overall taste. The ingredients were also above average, especially the mushrooms (possibly Songyi?). The ban chan was very fresh and tasty, but the amount of each item, and the variety (4) was a bit skimpy. I've noticed a downward trend in ban chan in many Korean restaurants lately, so this isn't unique to Yungane. I'm used to paying quite a bit less for Korean food in my area. But there is no competition in this area for Korean food, and it might be more expensive to source the needed ingredients here.

Crazy Boy Kimchi

In town, having dinner with our daughter. Having lived in Korea for a year, I can say the bibimbap was authentic. And good. The side of the thicker kimchi was real good too. Service was good, ambiance just ok. Only reason for not 5 stars, is it's too $$$$ for what you get.

Bibimbap

A great dining experience. Greeted and seated most cheerfully. We ordered the Bulgogi Bibimbap (stone pot), the Kalbi Short Ribs and Honey Glazed Wings. Ribs were well seasoned and surprisingly filling w/sides. Bibimbap (photo) was tasty but rice a bit overcooked.! Comes out super hot and sizzling better than any fajita platter but that's to be expected and adds to the anticipation of that crispy rice crist. Yum! Sauce left for individuals to add depending on desire for spice. (My wife's is a bit timid with new cuisine and this was her first adventure into Korea.) My only regret not ordering extra kimchi. Portions were appropriate for reasonable price. Nice amount of seating for couples or small groups. Several screens playing a loop of KPop so you have been warned, lol. People were great Look forward to our next visit.

Anyone who works for a living knows the feeling: you've had a long day, the kids have activities…read moretonight, and even though the fridge is full from your last trip to the grocery store you have no clue what's for dinner. So you fumble through the kitchen and create the same ol' same ol' recipe you've thrown together a zillion times in the past. "Someday," you say to yourself "I'm going to try some new recipes." But who has time for that?! Well, maybe you don't, but Oleg down at Salt Pepper & Oil does! SPO is a fairly new business with a twist on the current "meals ready to cook" trend that's taking busy local households by storm. Owner Oleg is a BTC Culinary School grad and former employee of some restaurants you've definitely heard of. In other words, he knows food. And he knows it well. And he's now made it his business to create delicious, locally-sourced recipes to cook at home. Yes, Oleg is pretty much a dream come true for us busy folks! What sets SPO apart - other than those amazingly fresh ingredients - are the fact that you can order as much or as little as you want. Just you and the spouse for dinner one night? Order a single entrée, make a salad, and you've got a meal. Big crowd coming over next Saturday? Order multiple portions and you're going to impress the heck out of your guests. And the BEST part? Oleg does all the work for you! Everything arrives pre-chopped in individual numbered baggies. You simply "add #1" to the pan, "mix in #2" and follow the easy-to-read directions until - quite miraculously - you've got a beautiful meal ready to serve. It's so easy even my cooking-challenged spouse has managed to churn out some dinner deliciousness when I'm not home! And it's a great way to teach the kids how to cook. SPO's menu also changes weekly, so there is always something new to choose from when you order ahead on the website. One of my recent favorites was the Chicken Yakisoba, which Oleg had featured at his recent Yelp event and which I was dying to try again. There are also always a couple of "same day" favorites you can grab as well. Try the spaghetti and meatballs - they are DIVINE. (And this is coming from someone who is known for making pretty darned good meatballs herself!) And finally, being able to order just one thing or several is nice when trying to budget and plan for the next week's meals. You don't have to commit to five nights worth of meals, or giant entrees when you're only cooking for one. I found the value to be very good, especially considering the prep work is already done, the meals are delicious, and I don't have to THINK about what's for dinner! Thank you, Oleg, for bringing your delicious talents right here to Bellingham. Can't wait to see what you come up with next!

Gentlemen, (and modern, working ladies), if you are looking for an opportunity to woo your favorite…read moredate, but your culinary creativity involves a can of Spaghettios or throwing a piece of meat on the grill, let me suggest you stop by Salt, Pepper & Oil. SPO will elevate your meal times, and might help your chances for a little "dessert" with your special someone if you do the dishes too. Owner Oleg has pre-sliced and diced fresh, local ingredients, bagged and numbered the items, and prepared a simple recipe indicating which item to throw into the skillet first. You save time, energy and money with none of the hassle of finding a classy recipe, shopping for high-end ingredients, or butchering your finger with a knife. If you can turn on a stove and cut open a bag with scissors, you have all the skills you are going to need. You just need to go online, select from the current week's gourmet menu options and then schedule your pick-up or delivery time. The meal can be decreased in size to accommodate those who strike out and end up dining alone or increased in size for those feeding a family of___. Voila, a fresh, tasty, home-cooked meal can be prepared by you in your kitchen in about 15 minutes. Hopefully your "on-after" with your main squeeze lasts longer than that considering the thoughtful, delicious meal you prepared without all of the hard work.

Super flavorful and satisfying, especially if you're really hungry or want something to share. I recommend the combo plate with half chow mein, half fried rice, and broccoli chicken Fair warning, it's rich and heavy, but definitely worth trying if you want something different without spending a lot!

Sit there for a while at lunchtime or just around dinner time one day l, watch who's coming in and you'll get it. This is Blue Collar food. You'll see the construction workers, the lawn care guys...and later in the day, the Seniors and families. What they come for, what I come for, is primarily the utility Chinese. Heaping, large portions of reasonably tasty, carbohydrates, salt, sugar, fat, and a surprisingly large amount of proteins... all at a very reasonable price... or as reasonable as you'll probably find these days. I venture a guess that a lot of people cannot finish a two item combo with the chow mein. It is a lot of high calorie density food. And, it's served by consistently friendly folk behind the counter. No the food isn't gourmet quality, but there's not a lot of places that serve this many calories where you are always treated very well by a smiling guy behind the counter. So, if you're seriously hungry, or your kids are hungry, or you want a large amount of calories that will probably last you at least two meals then this is almost certainly going to hit the spot.
