Hana is a staple in Bellingham. When anyone on any of the forums asks "where should I go for Teriyaki?"...Hana echoes throughout the comment sections. While I prefer Ginger Boat for the most tasty Teriyaki, if I'm hungry and driving down Holly street...I'm more likely as not stopping at Hana. There is a good reason for that...it's consistently delicious, consistently big in portions, consistently the best damn salad dressing... consistently tasty...it's reliable and filling. What's not to like? And while the interior and exterior have changed over the years...have to admit, the new signage is doing them a disservice since while the old sign was old-fashioned, you could see it from three blocks away...and the prices have got far more expensive, it's still a go to place that for most people will deliver several meals worth of food. Hang out waiting for your food and you'll hear many many orders for the spicy version...which is recommended. Not too spicy, just right. I admit to mostly ordering the plain old #1 Teriyaki chicken or Beef and Chicken. Long story short, it's hard to go wrong. read more

One of the best Teriyaki places we have ever been to. When we come here we typically get half chicken terriyaki and half steak with all rice. The portion sizes are big and you get a lot for what you pay for. We have only ever done take out but our food is always hot and fresh. They have a great location being right by the water! Our food is always ready when they say it will be ready. The steak and chicken are tender and the Teriyaki sauce is so good. We love this place and we'll definitely keep coming back. read more

Made them give me my money back. I ordered F5 combo for food and was 1 of 2 people in there, a whole bunch of Asian moms and kids came in, 4-5 of them, everyone else got their orders, bags with 6 or more boxes, and left quick while they kept telling me 5 more minutes and giggling and laughing. Cool place with cool people. You get a lot of food so value is good. Enough to share or have for the next day. I took my leftover and added some veggies and stirred fry them and they actually taste so much better. I think they should stir fry the chicken and beef with the sauce instead of just pouring it over the chicken and beef. It caramelized the meat more and taste more like teriyaki than sauce pour over. Me and my girlfriend got takeout here on our second night of our Washington vacation. To keep things short, the food was delicious. Egg rolls were yummy, and the beef yakisoba noodles with rice was absolutely delicious! But the teriyaki hot and spicy chicken felt like a little japanese man committed arson in my mouth! They weren't lying... it's spicy! My girlfriend could barely eat it so I polished it off since I love spicy (but it was struggling). Portions are huge. We were very satisfied. read more

Ordered food for lunch compliments of my job so it was a fairly good size order. We called the day ahead to arrange the order and everything went as planned on the day of pick up. The dressing on the salad is very good a bit sweet almost like coleslaw dressing. The gyoza were great, nice flavor and perfectly browned. I just wish I had more sauce to go with them as the sauce was very good. The rice was typical rice and was not overcooked. A nice little restaurant with exactly what I'm looking for in fast teriyaki. The people have always been nice to me here and they make tasty food. The meals are simple: rice, meat and a little bit of greenery. Their gyoza is always crispy (how fried gyoza should be) and everything gets cooked in a short amount of time. This place used to be great until the new owners took over. I ordered the chicken teriyaki and it was terrible! The chicken was so overcooked it was hard and dried out. They covered it with an absurd amount of teriyaki sauce to hide it. And the rice was also hard. I had to come home and steam it to be able to eat it. The prices have also increased quite a bit and it's not worth the cost. I would not recommend this place and I will not be going back. read more

Decent teriyaki joint in Bellingham, the chicken is pretty good. The teriyaki beef seemed like it was sauted on a pan with too much oil/meat juice. Wouldn't reccomend the beef...meh The gyoza was pretty good! Perfectly crispy! If they have a fryer, why cant they make chicken katsu?? Portion sizes are a challenge to finish on your own. This restaurant does not meet the standards of health of safety. They are cooking without proper ventilation and smoke fills out the entire restaurant causing limited visibility and making it hard to breathe. I've had to wait almost an hour for a take-out order due to the lack of proper ticket assignment. I watched while others came in to the restaurant after me, got their food and walked while I patiently waited in their smoke-filled dining area. This restaurant has been reported to the Whatcom County Department of Health for improper ventilation. read more

This used to be one of our favorite places to visit and visited often. After the new ownership we've noticed so many negative changes including: increased prices, smaller portions, watered down sauces. The spicy teriyaki sauce is now a sweet semi spicy sauce. It's really disappointing that new ownership and new recipes changed such a good thing. read more

A quick stop while in the area this late afternoon. It most definitely is a "take out" spot rather than dine in; a steady stream of the younger crowd! While there only 2 tables had "dine in" people other than us. We chose the "lunch specials" & were pleased with them. Must say all was properly prepared, well seasoned (not always easy with teriyaki, usually too sweet & this wasn't thankfully), with perfect high quality rice. The voice of dissent... Unlike most people, it seems, hubs and I did not care for Hana. Here's why: 1. No brown rice. White rice spikes blood sugar. So I asked for just veggies instead, but they said no. Now, I KNOW that they have mixed veggies, because they are part of the Chicken Veggie Stir-Fry, and also Yakisoba. But nevertheless, they were unwilling to serve me a scoop of mixed veg in lieu of white rice. 2. Did not care for the teriyaki sauce. An underlying flavor reminded me of lighter fluid. Plus, they used too much of it, in our opinion. 3. The "char" flavor tasted a little too "burnt" to me. 4. The pork meat was basically tasteless, other than char and sauce. It was also dry. 5. Gyoza was only so-so, to my taste. 6. Salad = Iceberg lettuce with sugary dressing. Sad, because we had high hopes due to all the great reviews. It's just not for us, I guess. read more
