I was immediately drawn in by how Sequoia and The Early Bird made me feel a new love and appreciation for San Francisco, especially during such an ugly time politically in this country, and how they use Twitter to build community around the show. FIP keeps me wide awake and enjoying whatever I'm doing. i got addicted when living in Paris, and i've come to rely on its charmingly random, mellow music to transport me from my Berkeley desk back to the 13th arrondisement. Additionally, i am convinced that FIP has psychic powers, since i've been listening to Hendrix's "Hey Joe" on repeat all day, and when I tuned into Fip while writing this review, what was playing but Popa Chubby's version of the song! Normally l would hear the distant signal of KWAV's music coming through, but the signal was stronger, and this music had a message. It's new Christian radio station KEPT-LP broadcasting from Hayward, with their transmitter in the hills above the Niles district of Fremont. At only 100 watts, it's signal covers the southeast portion of the Bay Area, but it can be picked up much further out on a car radio. Most of their programming so far is various styles of Christian music, seeming to appeal for a broad audience. Live broadcasts are Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings featuring Calvary Chapel Hayward's church services. The classic radio drama Unshackled is scheduled Sunday through Friday at 10 PM, with Bible studies at 12:30 AM and PM Monday through Friday. What would make KEPT a better station is for them to have live DJ's. That way listeners would feel connected to the station, instead of just hearing automated music and time checks. They've only been on the air a little more than a month, and I'm sure new programs and features will soon surface, but it's great to have another radio choice to choose from.

They also broadcast lots of Stanford athletics. The best part about KZSU is that they are always giving away tickets to local shows. It's surprisingly easy to win them ;-)

I am reposting an Unrecommended review (not mine) below that hits the nail on the head. "KZSU is a great radio station that tends to get in the way of itself. I don't know if it is the management overthinking on the programing, the young fickleness of college minds, or if there are people there with inflated egos or what. KZSU has a great format at times, then at times, the format just gets plain old weird and full of noise. There is something for everyone at this station. I absolutely love the Zydeco Workout with Lola Love! It's a great show with Zydeco, Blues, and Southern Soul music, and that voice of hers keeps me tuning in. It drives me nuts that the station keeps changing the time slot. The Drum with Kevy Kev was a 20 plus year hip hop mainstay - GONE! (whose idea was that?!) Otherwise, Blues with A Feelin', The Zydeco Workout, MHZ with Raymundo, M-Smooth & the Urban InnerCity Experience & No Cover, No Minimum with FO (Jazz), and the different types of world music is enough to keep KZSU on my #3 button on my radio."
