Treats Paying Customers Like Criminals - Algonquin IL store 699…read moreI am single, visit once a week , but it can vary. I have been shopping here for as many years as this store has been open. WTF with the rent-a-cop following me around every time I visit for the last few months? Yes, I wear a heavy coat in winter. WTH am I thinking wearing a heavy coat when it's 30 degrees outside? Yes, sometimes I look at things on the produce shelf for an extended time; 1- things aren't always in the same place, 2- I like to review the options like any normal shopper, 3- sometimes I read a label and put the item back, 4- check my eggs for cracks... How the hell is that suspicious behavior? I shop at many grocery stores, but this is the only one where I am basically treated like a criminal. Whole Foods doesn't treat me this way, The Fresh Market doesn't treat me this way, Walmart doesn't treat me this way, or any other grocery store for that matter. I am sorry that you have a theft problem, but I am not it. Driving away good customers isn't going to help your bottom line. Get your act together. It's insulting and I deserve an apology. I would use Instacart to avoid your unwelcoming store , but you are too cheap to participate. When shopping here , Expect to be Treated as a Potential Thief.

Listen, I love Mariano's and especially since there's no Whole Foods close by, I can find some…read moreimportant dietary options (gf, dairy free) from brands that are hard to find elsewhere. Still, the prices are on the average way higher for some standard items that I can get elsewhere, which makes it hard for me to shop here in general. Last time I was in, we got a couple of poke bowls and some mac and cheese and chicken fingers from the freshly made food section. The quality was high, and the prices for the convenience were right on. Mariano's remains for me the place to get the one or two hard-to-find items and that's it.

I have been going to Mariano's for quite some time now and about 1 to 4 times a month lately. I…read morehave bought sandwiches that have been marked down because the date is near and the bread has been stale already even though it's within a day or two of the sell by date. I have also bought things from the bakery that have been marked down and they have been very stale even though the sell by date was one to two days into the future. So a couple days ago I buy this pork prepackaged and not entirely inexpensive and I go to cook it today. It's been in the refrigerator and the sale by date is tomorrow, but it looks so discolored and old. I'm not even going to try to open it and smell it. I'm taking it back tomorrow and I'm really sick and tired of taking things back to the grocery stores that are rotten. It is a drive to any of them and i may or may not have enough time to drive back, find a place to park, and go in and take care of business. I have ended up just throwing things out like little bakery items that were a couple bucks or a sandwich that was three or four instead of eight or six dollars. I think my days of shopping at Mariano's are over. Definitely stay away from markdowns, Also Their prices on most things are not cheap but I will say usually their full price fresh veggies and fruit are good and fresh. Hard to go from place to place for this and that though.

It has some pretty unique things for around Carpentersville, if you just go to other stores. Village Fresh Market sure is fresh, especially for the fruits and vegetables. Has lots of other groceries too like cereal, but the prices aren't as good on these items. The produce is where you'll get your money's worth, so stick there. Apparently it used to be another grocery store, because it's big. It's set up like a regular grocery store. There's aisles, and there's a big section on the side for fruits and vegetables. It's bright and clean. There's mostly Mexicans who are shopping in here, but they wouldn't be here if it wasn't any good. Also at the front there's a stand to get juices and fruits. It's $4 for a juice. The Greens Juice is the best of these. It's green of course. This is made with apples, celery, cucumbers, ginger, lemon, and spinach. It's $4 for a bowl of fruit. The Fruta Grande is a bowl filled with the fruit if your choice, and it's topped with chili salt, which gives it a spice. Good place to get something fresh. It's a store but be sure to get some juices and fruit bowls on your way in or out. There's also some other vendors.
