You have Jerry's for affordable groceries and then there's the lesser known brother Sam's. Actually, I don't even think they're related... but I digress. Sam's is low key, slightly outdated fresh market. BUT look around and you see that this place covers a vast amount of really good stuff in this humble space. Free popcorn and coffee is usually served near the entrance. Cheap produce, a vast quantity of ethnic goods. Large vacuumed sealed bags of imported cheese. A variety of bulk goods - nuts, flours, dried herbs and fruit. Sam has a bit of everything and prices are perfect place to find and experiment with cooking. I've shopped here a few times and always find new treasures. Today I found something I haven't seen: non-homogenized milk. I remember my dad telling me stuff don't taste the same like they used. Milk doesn't have any "milk" taste. Well, I can say this is probably the closest thing to the grassfed, cream forming on the top, milk milk! Always a fun and inexpensive discovery at Sam's. Their lunch/dinner special is a steal! $4 for a main dish and two hot sides. When I saw that sign in the kitchen area, I immediately ordered. They have seafood (jumbo shrimp, mussel, pieces of fish) as one of their main dish choice. What a great deal bc they give you a lot of seafood. The broth they use is very tasty and more on the oily side, but it's pretty good. I chose grilled veggies and Mexican rice as my two sides. Both went perfectly with my seafood combo. The portions are pretty decent and for such an amazing price for $4! Will order again and try their other selections. read more

You would be better served at literally any other Grocery store. Their produce is cheap but it will last you about a day because it does bad so quick. I think they buy a lot and then freeze it and pull it out to sell over time, which is super gross! The ladies in the deli are less than helpful and seemed very agitated to help me...I ordered one thing! Their attitudes were so pour I took the one thing I had and gave it back. I tried to tell the manager about the poor service but he didn't want to hear it. I never raised my voice and used poor language. I would have gotten more items had there been someone else working the deli but both women were terrible and I couldn't stand to be there any more. At first I thought I got to the store close to closing time which is why was upsetting them however I was there 1.5 hours before closing. I understand everyone has a bad day, and a manager has every right to defend his employees but this just isn't a good store. I also witnessed a woman show an employee some canned goods and they had expired a year ago! Buyer beware! read more

One of the new, smaller grocers in our area. The place seemed good. Prices for big name goods were about what other stores would charge, but there were a few deals which made the trip worth while. One thing is in-house made popcorn! Nowhere near as good as the now closed Popolicious in Des Plaines, but very good for a low price! Great for parties. This store is a breath of fresh air in a town full of big box grocers. Sam's is clean and bright with great decor as well. Always well stocked with everything you would want from a much bigger grocery store. Great deli, in house bakery, fresh fish counter. This Supermarket is a spacious bottom and well stocked with a variety of goods place. However, the biggest advantage of this supermarket is the prices! Within 7 miles, there is no one to beat Sam's low fruit and vegetable prices! No matter how many times I went to the supermarket, I always saw the same middle-aged man who kept arranging the goods and helping the other employees. I was impressed by his diligence, and one day I told him that I really liked his diligence and presence, asking him to contact me with the manager, or the store owner, to express my admiration for him. Friendly staff, reasonably priced fresh produce. Good prices on chicken! Canned goods, frozen foods, and shelf items are a little pricey, but I use their coupon that comes with our mail which helps even things out. I rarely spend more than $70-$80 per visit which is much better than any other grocery store in the area. Their homemade turkey breast is great and well worth the price. read more

This grocery store is relatively new. My mother likes to go to the Dollar Tree next door, so while she was shopping I went in Sam's to check it out. That was about three months ago and the store was not busy. The cashiers and stock people are knowledgeable and friendly. I was surprised by the excellent customer service and the good values. I might add that Mariano's, Jewel, Butera are in close proximity so it takes that extra edge to compete. Fast forward to today, March 15th, the weekend people are panicking over the virus and closing of schools and business, so emptying out shelves at Walmart, Aldi, Jewel and other places. I thought of this gem and drove out of my way to shop and avoid the madness. It was very, very busy but a great experience with the same level of customer service and consideration. They were having sales and made no attempt to mark up their goods because of the shortages. In fact, stock people were in the aisles working hard to keep up with demand. There was only one item on my list that I couldn't find at this exceptional store. A real attention to detail and that family grocer feel that will pay off for this store in the long run and when things get back to normal. This store can be proud! read more

Shocking experience.. I found in the cooler smoked Turkey legs and wings which were molded. I informed friendly store associates which works at the meat and seafood section (even worries me more now) . I gave him one and kept on looking .. and found several more .. so I went to hom again to let him know , they better look through this .. after a while me standing their and him , he put back the molded Turkey leg and said I dont care I just leave it the I give a s... I was done and left quite and shocked about that behavior and unsafely food handling. I decided to email an complain .. not because of the food no because of that non caring behavior of the sales association. But I didnt even received an email back. I doubt I will be back because if the store associates are acting already infront of customers like this I dont want to know what happens behind doors .. uuurrgghh read more

Came here on vacation from California. I am hispanic and had always had trouble finding the right ingredients when traveling to the midwest. I was pleasantly surprised at the diversity of ítems here. Great prices and it was nice to see the owner walking around in the store. read more

I love this store. Sam is there to welcome us. George in the meat dept is fantastic. I've gotten the best meat ever there. Deli is great..best Italian beef around. Kielbasa is super and a great price. Homemade tortillas! I won't use anything else now. They are by far the best. Amish honey is another great item..really good. Produce is good too. Update to my original review: I initially gave this place 5 stars but have to change it to 3 bc one of the main things I loved about this place was the Amish eggs and Amish chicken. The chicken is not always available and I've gotten some old chicken that did not taste right. Me and my husband also got sick off of their chicken fajitas- probably also not fresh. What a bummer! I had high hopes for this store since Caputo's closed but alas not so! Two Saturday's in a row I went shopping at my normal 9:30 am time for their Barese Sausage and they had none. Yesterday I went in to get ham lunch meat that they had advertised and they had none. I bought their half salt pickles two weeks in a row and they were horrible. I spoke with the manager and he made some lame excuses. Rather than make excuses learn from your customers comments and improve. I will be making the trek to Valli in Arlington Heights now. I have given this store too many chances. :( read more

This is a very nice grocery store. Employees are always polite and friendly and offer their assistance as you walk thru the store. Their grocery prices are reasonable, selection is good, and the kolackys are the best we've ever had. They offer free samples of their delicious bakery cookies for "young shoppers", and sometimes there are free, delicious pizza samples at the deli. They also have free coffee available all day, which is very good, roasted by Sam's Market, and available for purchase. They also have fun items like freshly popped popcorn in different varieties. The Friday special of $5 pizzas (plus $1 for each additional topping) is an exceptional deal, and the pizzas are very good. The meat selection is very good, with quality cuts of meat. I purchase most of my meat there. The fresh produce offers a very large selection of different fruits and vegetables, at reasonable prices. The manager, Sam, is friendly and accommodating to the customers. It is a sincere pleasure shopping at a grocery store where the employees are friendly, prices are good, and the food quality and variety is good. They are a small grocery store, but one of the best in Des Plaines area. read more

This store is very hard to navigate, the aisles are narrow and in the middle of the busiest aisle in the back of the store where the deli, meat, and hot foods section is located they have shelves stocked with items which makes this store quite maze like. Also, frequently there aren't enough cashiers working which makes for long lines. But there are good bargains here which offsets the small negative points. They have quality meats and their ground beef is the freshest around here and is half the price of Jewel across the street. They have a very good pastry section with slices of cakes reasonably priced. I will let you in on a secret, their pizza which they bake for you while you wait is 10 bucks for an extra large sausage and it tastes just as good as pizzeria joints in the area. Also look for their homemade sauces at the end of the produce aisle make a left. The alfredo sauce is great but man, their meat sauce is incredible! It is just as good if not better than every Italian deli on Harlem. And it's just $1.99 a pint. I would pay 6 bucks for it, it is that good. They sell homemade meatballs as big as your fist in the deli which are very good. Take that great sauce home with those meatballs and some pasta and you have a delicious cheap meal. read more
