My son took the SHSAT in October of 2017 and was accepted to Bronx Science starting Fall 2018. He would not have gained entrance to a specialized high school without Kweller Test Prep and we are very grateful that we found and chose Kweller for him because his Kweller Test Prep experience was nothing short of excellent. His strong score on the SHSAT happened for three reasons: he's a bright kid, he has a good work ethic and Kweller Test Prep thoroughly and completely prepared him. He had time to focus and really learn over the summer without the distraction of school. Summer studying was the key to his success. He was able to gauge his likely score so that he ranked the schools based upon a record of practice instead of wishing or guessing. He didn't miss a class, practice test or Kweller homework for all of those months. It was very challenging for our 7th to 8th grader to test prep for so long and so intensely and he gets all the credit for staying focused and working hard, especially in "giving up" his summer to study and during the school year when he was also playing travel hockey. There were plenty of times he left the ice from a game or practice, recovered and ate in the car on his way to Kweller to make it to his class or practice test just in time. We think that all of the structured time actually made him better and more focused. (And he still had time to be a middle school kid who socialized, had fun with friends and played video games that he loves). He took his classes at both Kweller Queens (easy subway ride and nice walk that he did on his own) and Kweller Manhattan, where the enthusiasm for learning and encouragement to succeed are infectious. The classrooms were bright, clean, safe and well supervised by mindful and caring teachers and staff. Frances Kweller, the owner, knows the kids and has a pulse on absolutely everything and everyone. She and his teachers were accessible by phone or email when he/we occasionally had questions or needed guidance. His teachers were incredible and he really liked them. His teachers were super smart, had nice personalities and excellent skills to actually teach the materials. They were patient and supportive. They encouraged speaking up and asking questions. They wanted the kids to succeed so they encouraged the kids to ask and ask again if you have to. When my son was having a tough time finishing the test on time, his teachers spent time with him to help him get over that hump during the summer course to identify and hone his strengths in order to maximize his score and efficiency to complete the test. They helped him to identify and shore up his weaknesses. Over and over, with practice after practice, they taught him how to take the test and analyzed his results with him and those were the key components to the whole experience. By the end of the four days per week summer course, which is the course we truly credit as time well spent that lead to his success on the test, he was comfortably finishing the test on time and increasing his score nearly each time he took a practice test. After the summer, he was in a good zone, well familiar with all of the material from his Kweller workbooks and practice tests, he was conditioned with strategies he needed to get through the test and he was mentally ready from all of the preparation built over time. All of the thorough prep at Kweller, especially over the summer, allowed him to relax about the upcoming exam, feel confident because his base of knowledge and familiarity with the test topics were rock solid and to peak with his score in October for the actual exam. I can not say enough great things about Kweller Prep. My son attended the Kweller SHSAT prep at the Manhattan location this spring, summer and fall. The level of care and attention that was provided to him was unprecedented. The classroom settings are comfortable, bright and clean. Students are provided with free snacks like pizza, bagels and other treats. The facilities have vending machines for snacks. The materials provided to students and parents are so thorough. My son had attended another SHSAT prep course before Kweller which was lacking. Kweller blew away that other prep course. As to the tutors, they were all extremely qualified with very impressive credentials. My son never complained about any of his tutors. Whenever, I made a request to a tutor or the office manager Satiya, it was always immediately fulfilled. I would text Satiya if we were running late or had to leave early. Satiya would promptly reply which was so reassuring. She would have someone escort him to the lobby and wait for me. He was never dismissed, if I was not there to get him, during his weekend sessions. My son was a 13 year old walking by himself in midtown Manhattan during the summer camp session, after class to the bus stop. He was traveling to the outer boroughs. Frances Kweller and Satiya made sure that he walked safely to his express bus stop. On the first few days of the course, he was personally escorted three blocks to his bus stop by one of the tutors. There was no extra charge and was an amazing courtesy. Now, that is truly unconditional dedication and customer service. I've never had such reliable service, as a parent worried about their child traveling alone through the crowds of midtown Manhattan for the first time. However, I entrusted my child's safety and academic advancement to the Kweller staff. My son took the SHSAT in October and felt that Kweller prepared him well for the test. The Kweller practice exams were harder than the actual test. As to the owner, Frances Kweller, I also can't say enough great things about her. I've told her that I love her business model of true personal attention to her students and families. Ms. Kweller has replied to my emails as late as 11pm!! Yes, I reached out to her at 11pm. I am an anxious parent of an eighth grader going through this competitive admissions process and reached out to her about a question. Ms. Kweller immediately replied and provided me with the name of person that I needed to speak to. In turn, the person emailed me with a reply at midnight! I had another panic situation with the NYC DOE website and reached out to Ms. Kweller who immediately directed me on what to do. It is so reassuring to have someone like Frances Kweller you can rely on to help you through this process. I've told her to never change because it's her personalized attention that distinguishes her from these larger commercialized test prep companies. Additionally, my family and I took advantage of the free workshops offered by Kweller. We attended the workshop on navigating NYC high schools where Ms. Kweller invited expert guest speakers. Lastly, most recently my son received an invitation to interview with BARD High School Early College. Kweller offered interview preparation skills which was extremely helpful and eye opening for him and I. The staff person who conducted the session is a BARD graduate who graduated top of her class. Kweller Prep has been a godsend to our family. Five stars for years! My daughter's needs were not being met by her current elementary school. Her classes- in a citywide G&T program- were overcrowded, students perpetually had unmanaged behavioral problems, and teacher dissatisfaction was rampant; all contributed to a situation where my child was academically stymied and disengaged from school-and contrary to anything I previously expected from a city-wide gifted and talented! Happily, things have quickly taken a turn for the better since my daughter started Kweller Prep's Hunter program. After the very first day of class, she gleefully reported she had learned more in the writing lesson after a few hours with her tutor Lori than the entire school year. A week later she pronounced she was actually looking forward to the 3-hour practice exam because as she said, "the math is interesting, and I like writing essays now." Was I dreaming? I had to pinch myself. I cannot speak highly enough of my daughter's tutor at Kweller Prep: Lori. She quickly zeroed in on my daughters' strengths and weaknesses. I receive frequent email reports about my daughters' progress, and she always responds promptly to text messages and phone calls. Somehow, when Lori corrects my daughter, she doesn't take it as criticism but simply determines to work harder. Kweller is not just about test prep; it's also about community. As a parent, I would have to say that one of the biggest perks, most valuable perks of the program is having access to Frances Kweller herself. The knowledge this woman has about navigating the byzantine public and private school systems is staggering. And her heart is just as big as her reservoir of knowledge and experience. I can't count the number of frantic phone calls she's answered when I was clueless about the next step to take for my child. I can never thank Frances enough for this. The guidance she gives is simply golden. Usually, you would have to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars in consultation fees for the insights she offers. But Frances gives it away for free, simply because she wants to see all children succeed. There is no magic bullet to academic success. Kweller Prep is a true gem! I can't recommend it highly enough. It was recommended to us by a friend whose son took a Kweller course and was accepted to Stuyvesant High School. According to my friend, Kweller was not only offering by far the best prep courses for entry into specialised high schools in the city, but it was THE ONLY place that we should be considering. Boy, was he right! When I enquired about Kweller Hunter School prep course I was immediately offered a chance to listen to their online class which happened to be the last Kweller class for students taking Hunter entrance exam in June 2021. The moment I logged into that class I knew that we have not seen anything of that quality. My daughter goes to a private school and takes rigorous math classes outside her regular school. She took a Hunter prep course at Kweller. Kweller was on a completely different level than anything she knew - the rigour of math, English and essay writing instruction was off the charts. What's even more important, Kweller instructors are phenomenal teachers who are able to explain all concepts to kids in simple and engaging terms. Kweller is truly vested in the success of its students. It provided stacks of printed materials, as well as additional free hi-impact classes on specific topics. My daughter had a printed solution to every single problem and thoughtful teacher comments on her essays. This was a rarity compared to some other private specialised courses / schools who guard their know-how to the extent that if a child did not understand a solution during the class, there is no way to obtain the correct solution from the course provider. Kweller really knows what they are doing and gets the job done. We are still waiting for a decision from the school my daughter applied to, but regardless of the outcome of that application, Kweller took my daughter on a different learning trajectory. What can I say about Kweller Prep? I sent my first son to Kweller for Hunter High School prep on the recommendation of a friend. I was blown away with Ms. Kweller's philosophy and work ethic. She expects excellence and dedication from the children, and, in return, treats them as their own. My son worked very hard, and, in the end, he did get into Hunter. More importantly, I felt that the skills he learned (how to write a good, interesting essay, how to break down difficult math problems, how to annotate an essay...) would serve him well, even if he had not been accepted to Hunter. When the time rolled around for my younger son to apply to SHSAT high schools, we only considered Kweller. He is a very different student than my older son, but he is also thriving at Kweller. This kid, who did minimal work and was depressed and isolated during COVID zoom/hybrid school, is THRIVING and EXCITED about learning and even asking the tutor for extra work. Will he pass the SHSAT? I'm not sure. His scores are improving but it may not be enough. However, again, the skills he is learning, the confidence he is building in himself, and the knowledge that he can do difficult things, will be enough for me. I will say that if your child is not dedicated and determined to try their best, then perhaps Kweller is not the place for them. That is not to say that your child has to be a genius. My younger son is basically a year behind in school (due to lack of effort on his part) but he WANTS to do well and is trying his best, and is taking his studies seriously. He participates and asks questions in class and does his homework. His tutor connects with him and inspires him to continue that effort. I came to Kweller Prep at the beginning of my junior year of high school, just 3 months before taking the SAT. I had always been a good student but found difficulty in test-taking. The tutoring was rigorous and provided me with all the tools I needed to take the test to my best ability. The improvements I made were drastic. I scored much higher on the SAT than I had on any practice test and when I took the SAT a second time, I scored 100 points higher than I had previously. As a high schooler, I was a student at Kweller Prep, where the tutors assisted me with both standardized test prep and the college application process. I definitely felt incredibly prepared for both my exams and the college process and definitely recommend Kweller Prep to anybody looking for test prep, help with college essays, help with college apps, or even help with financial aid applications. Kweller Prep has tutors who can assist students with all of those things and I definitely wouldn't be in the position I'm in today had it not been for Kweller Prep. The tutors go above and beyond what would normally be expected of them, and Jessie Yu, a Georgetown alumnus and one of my old tutors, was often available outside of class to answer questions for me via email. Daniel An, a JHU alumnus and another tutor of mine, helped me immensely with my college essay, went as far as to make edits during his OWN time, and tabs on my college results even after we were no longer working together. Mo Khan, another one of my tutors, went above and beyond to help me with the subjects that gave me trouble and even stayed in during late nights to help me with Physics back in '16-'17. He also went out of his way to make sure my supplemental essays were as great as they could be. Kweller Prep is by far the BEST place for students to seek help with the college process, standardized testing, and schoolwork. Kweller Prep is THE place to go! Francis Kweller, the Founder of the Kweller Prep Test Center, was a find for my son years ago when he needed tutoring for math. His grades went up into the 90's!! He also brought his SAT score up over 200 points in only 3 weeks of review (which was rushed because he waited too long to make a decision to do this!) Over the years she has started her own business and many of his friends have used her services, all of whom have received wonderful scores on their SAT's and received many wonderful scholarships to College! She offers workshops on the whole college application process, has so much knowedge and information on test taking and has the results to prove she knows what she is talking about. My younger son is now taking advantage of Kweller Prep to get ready for his SAT, ACT and SAT subject tests. She zeros in on trouble spots quickly and encouranges only the best response from her students. Frank Wachtel, one of the great tutors at Kweller Prep, has helped my son refine his math skills and my son felt he explained things well and is helping him navigate the Math process of the SAT exam. I have been to every single test prep center on the planet. I have done Kaplan, Princeton the Chinese place down the street and Kweller Prep. I just turned 18 so I thought I would write a review for this ingenious place that helped me along my journey. Unlike other test prep center where as soon as you enter it seems as if you have transported to a mundane prison like area as soon as you enter Kweller you have this strong urge to work hard. You see the I Mac on the left (I don't know a single tutoring center that has IMacs !!!!!!!) , Smart Board upfront and the cozy couch where you can rest if you are early for your session. I have worked with several tutors and they were all phenomenal, I mean phenomenal ! They could speak to me in way where I understood everything at a first glance. They recognized my style and shifted there way of teaching to fit me, not vice- versa - unlike in other centers. We didn't need 2 hrs to hit it of we were running through concept in lightening speed in 20 mins and i could understand everything. Furthermore, unlike other centers I wasn't broke after every session cause the prices at Kweller prep are fair. It's not dirt cheap but it doesn't have "the im getting robbed feeling. If there was one thing I could ask them to change it would be the increase the space. There were times when there were so many people that there was a line out the door and at these times it gets irritating to wait , but i guess this only speaks more of the quality of the service and zeal of the tutors. read more

Kweller Prep assured me a spot in Stanford's and NYU's Class of 2019. When I first arrived at Kweller Prep, my SAT score was a 1730. I truly thought the most I could improve was by 200 maybe 300 points. However, Kweller worked wonders on me and my score! After one summer of constant prep at Kweller Prep, my SAT scored increased to a 2320-- THAT's 590 points!! What separates Kweller Prep from other testing organizations is that Kweller Prep has both students and professionals as tutors. One of my tutors, for example was a senior in high school who earned nearly a perfect score of 2200 on his SAT. What makes this method of what can be called "peer tutoring" so effective is that students have an easier time communicating what makes them "get" or understand the material and relate closely to the person they are trying to help. My tutor was only one year older that I was, and with his help, easily understood explanations, and infallible guidance from Mrs. Kweller, I soon soared to new heights and even earned a higher score than my tutor did. Kweller Prep does not only work on the SAT....Kweller Prep helped me prepare a wonderful resume and college essay. When I first began writing my college essay, it was cluttered with great ideas, but had a lack of structure. Mrs. Kweller had one of her best tutors sit with me for hours until we perfected my essay. My name is Michael Bruno and I am currently a Sophomore at St. Francis College in Brooklyn Heights, NY. I first started to attend Kweller Prep for the Regents Exams and I received grades of 90 and above on every Regents Exam that Kweller Prep prepared me for. Kweller Prep definitely improved my test taking skills, helping me develop into a diligent and conscientious student. I also went to Kweller Prep for Intense SAT Preparation. I was taught a number of ways in tackling the different sections of the SAT's, improving my SAT score. Thanks to Kweller Prep I became an honor roll student for my 4 years of High School, a student athlete holding a 94 GPA, and a member of the ARISTA National Honor Society. I recieved an $8,000 Academic Scholarship from St. Francis College and I am currently on the Deans List with a 3.8 GPA. I can honestly say that Kweller Prep is completely beneficial and successful, providing high test scores with the Regents exams, the SAT's, and AP exams. Besides remarkable test scores, Kweller Prep guides students as well as parents with a step by step process regarding College Applications and Scholarships. The college office and the counselors in my High School were no where near as helpful as Kweller Prep with regards to the SAT's and College Applications. I was a student at Kweller Prep. I understand that our parents pay money for us to go here, but we cannot always take full advantage of the tutoring offered. With a personal life, extracurriculars, and homework unrelated to test prep, my work for Kweller Prep did not always come first. As a result, I felt like I was shamed by some of my tutors and the owner; they wanted me to put Kweller Prep above everything else. In my experience of going there, I felt embarrassed if I missed out on some work, even if I did it for the most part. It may not have been the intention of the staff to make me feel this way, but I felt this way, nonetheless. I am not the greatest student, but I was trying my best and I wish I was treated with a bit more dignity. Being treated this way did not motivate me. I am also stuck with a very expensive TI-Nspire graphing calculator that Kweller Prep forced me to buy for the math section of the SAT. This didn't make sense to me from the beginning because the calculator does not make the student. You can do badly even with a fancy calculator, and many of the questions do not require a calculator. The calculator recommended by the test prep agency was overkill for my purpose. Even during AP Calculus exams, which has more advanced math than the SAT subject tests and the SAT, I used the TI-84 Plus. Don't get stuck buying an expensive calculator you are never going to use again when a less expensive calculator is more than sufficient. read more
