After reading the reviews, I had to check this place out. I ordered the turkey muffuletta and the ninja. It is a rather sparsely stocked convenience store, easy to see the back where you order the sandwiches. I did ask for no onions and no sprouts on the sandwiches, but I did find sprouts in the ninja. No big deal, I just pushed them off. The sandwiches do take a while to order. They do warm them up, which is nice. I thought the ninja was pretty good, but medium spicy - like a 5 out of 10. Not burn-your-tongue off, but up there. I couldn't really taste the other ingredients beyond the asian sauce, but the asian sauce was tasty. I had the turkey muffuletta around 10 hours later after being in the fridge. I am not a huge muffuletta fan. I just thought, hey, maybe I really do like muffulettas but have never had a good one. Well, I ate it but can't fairly rate it because I'm still "feh" on muffulettas. I really enjoyed the fact that they had Gold Peak Iced Tea in the fridge, because it is very hard to find in this area and I usually have to go all they way to Cordova to get it. I look forward to going back and trying some of the other items like the dolmas, the chickpea salad, and the potato salads in their cooler. read more

this place serves a variety of greek/middle eastern/asian deli type food. the sandwiches are fantastic - when my sister used to live in town this was one of her spots because she is a vegetarian - she loved the vegetarian sandwiches here. don't know what else to say about this place - it has great food - if you live nearby or are just in the neighborhood and want a sandwich, you owe it to yourself to stop here. this is a classic midtown memphis lunch spot. read more

I have to admit that the first time I ate here I was a little confused. They had gyro on the menu, I ordered it and loved it. But what confused me was seeing the Korean food dishes. I wasn't familiar with most of the dishes so it took me a few visits of eating only the gyros to try one of the Korean dishes (Bi Bim Bhap). I actually enjoyed it. The only thing that keeps me from giving this place a 5 rating is that the tables, counters and chairs appear dirty. It definitely has a dive feel to it but the food is great. read more

Very disappointing! I had heard about this place for a while and finally gave it a try. The guy taking our order was totally unhelpful and disinterested. We finally ordered gyros, falafel plate, Greek salads and Korean noodle soup for take out. With the exception of the soup, everything else was surprisingly bad! The portions were small for the price. The falafel plate was more like an appetizer than a meal. There were only 3 small falafel patties cut in halves and they tasted stale! The gyros were super dry. The lettuce in the boxed -did I mention small- salad had turned brown. To top it all we waited about 30 min for our order! Maybe they were having an off night, but I'm never going back. Worst experience ever. I'm serious. Bad food, bad hygiene, lousy service. Started with poor service, no words spoken by person taking order. Gyro had three pieces of meat. Three! Worse there was a curly hair in it. Hummus tasted like spicy dish soap. Seriously. Inedible. Two different ladies rang me up at the register, ie they tried to get me to pay twice. Not a fan of this place. My friend took me here for their Korean food. It's not really a restaurant anyway. I'm generally open to Korean food, but this place was terrible. We ordered and ate there... They got greasy fried rice in plates and after leaving I found myself SMELL LIKE THEIR KITCHEN. Ew. That's not good fried rice anyway, tastes salty, oily and generally cheap. I guess it's just a sketchy place so there's nothing I can say about it. For the second time, I drove someone to pick up something to go, and found their tables were still nasty. Love this place. I used to always get the gyros here, which are quite good. The stuffed grape leaves are very tasty too and go well with the gyro. Based on positive reviews, I decided to try the bibimbap. Wow. It's awesome. Unique and delicious. It's a mix of rice, vegetables, and even apple slices, with your choice of meat or tofu (I get it with beef). It's not the kind of thing you'd expect to get from this place by the looks of it (looks like a gas station from the outside). The first time I ordered it, I got it to-go. This was great, but I recommend ordering it in. Then, they will bring it to you in a hot bowl. I was a bit overwhelmed by it and asked the Korean woman working there if I should stir it up. She came to my table and stirred it all up for me. The hot bowl cooked up the fried egg on top. The only thing to be careful of when you order this is that it's a bit spicy. I get the spicy sauce on the side so I can add as much as I want. They also carry a variety of beers, sodas, and chips. read more

The deli sandwiches may be some of the best in town, and the Korean food is excellent. This is not the cheapest lunch, but it's worth it, especially if you are having the deli sandwiches. Good news Kwik Check lovers, the owner has opened a new restaurant at 150 Jefferson Ave., just West of Jefferson and Third downtown, called Nacho Average Bakery. I ate there yesterday, had the Bi Bim Bop and it is identical to Kwik Check. They had many of the Kwik Check sandwiches available as well and while pretty austere it has much better ambiance and seating than Kwik Check. read more

The first time I ever heard about this place was when a classmate was telling me about how she had been to kwik check every day for the past week for a gyro. I lived walking distance away so decided to check it out. The gyros were great. Went back later to try the falafel and I love those also. Really amazing, world-class gyros and falafels. I decided to try a sandwich next visit, while pretty decent it was pretty small. I even tried a wrap, decent again. Then I went back and tried the bibimbap, a Korean rice dish, which was fantastic. The bibimbap wasn't a small serving but it was not enough because it is delicious! Wait, did I just say I had gyros, then wraps, then bibimbap? Uh, I didn't mention that you could also grab some shrimp chips and a beer. And then some cake with milk to wash it down. Then on your way to pay at the counter you grab a six-pack to take home along with a candy bar and gum for later. And then you see the super glue behind the counter and remember you did have that thing you broke and hid under the sink, so buy one of those too. And then buy a pack of condoms because that girl that ordered gyoza and a muffaletta with chips was giving you the come hither stare and your an optimist. Do I sound like a crazy man when writing up this review? Yes. Mediterranean, Korean, American, beer, candy, soda, dessert and random behind the counter goods all in one stop. Listen, there are also sides. Deviled eggs and Greek salads and dolmades and kimchi and other Korean sides, and it's good. I say the sandwiches and wraps are a bit too small for $6. Everything else is decently priced... except the dolmades actually. Those are also pricey. But I don't even know what I'm saying anymore. I love the falafel, it's my favorite. Go to here and eat it. Bi Bim Bop Beef is all you need to know...

Get the dolma. Some of the best I have had, in my humble opinion. The tzatziki sauce that comes with it is so fresh and has strips of cucumber in it. The dolma themselves are hand-wrapped there so they aren't all sodden like you usually get. Also it has small bits of meat in it. So delicious. Can be a good lunch or shared as a appetizer. Finally the be bim bap. HIGHLY recommend. Honestly have had better but not in Memphis. It is a wonderful treat on a cold day. Note: you go to Kwik Chek for the food not the ambiance. My friends, my mother, and I read all the good reviews about Kwik Chek and decided to go try it. The bathrooms looked awful; not only did they not have locks, they were also extremely dirty. Our orders were taken quickly; the food for one of my friends came within 15 minutes. My other friend and my food came within 30. My mothers did not, but within these 30 minutes we watched as people who came after us got their food before us. The food we received was rather bland. 15 minutes later my mother was still waiting on her food. Finally, my mother went up to the counter to inquire about her food. It was sitting on the counter; the staff had brought everyone their food except my mother. The club she ordered looked like a very sad sandwich, and the crust was so hard she couldn't eat it. The best part of the restaurant were the bottled drinks we got, overpriced drinks that could've been bought literally anywhere else. I was extremely disappointed in the food, service, and atmosphere of Kwik Chek. I urge you to think again before trying this restaurant. read more
