When it was the tiny place it had some kind of pretentiousness to it that just turned me off. I only ate there once. It would take weeks to get a reservation before he moved it and the constant limelight had to be a lot of pressure. This place though.... I could come here three times a week no issue. In fact, I actually wish that I could eat here three days a week. Second Line is moving soon. They are going back to being next door to Iris in the newer Laurelwood location. In some ways I wonder if Chef needs that jovial comfort of a place next to Iris to keep him grounded. I do hope the charm of this is somehow transferred, but looking out the windows into Cooper the last time I was here Dec '25, just will not be a possibility in that shopping center it's headed to. And he's only worked there for a mere 5 weeks. I asked him who the owner is and he directed me to Jerry and Patrice Thompson, two of the nicest folks you'll ever meet. Jerry has a big welcoming personality and a great sense of humor. Fried catfish fillets were excellent! Crust was just right and the fillets were moist. I ate everything in my plate. Peach cobbler was warmed up, we opted to not have it w ice cream, and it is the best in Memphis! Such a long and storied history for this restaurant. We ordered our food via the phone, but it still wasn't ready after traveling the 25 minutes we traveled to get there, because they had apparently given someone else our order by mistake. 3) The woman they had answering the phone for the orders was often distracted. She was nice, but she had messed up our order over the phone. I love supporting black businesses, so I was excited to support this restaurant. I know the owners are natives of the area, which means they have local experience and know what's good in the city ... and to be honest, the food definitely sells itself! It' just the service needs a lot more work, and I hope they get that part of it together. They are definitely worth fighting for!!
