Right before we got to the condo we received an email with extra instructions that were specifically from D sands and not the host person, "can't check in early, be patient with our cleaning staff because they are small and try their best, don't yell at them." That right there made us nervous that there's been some cleaning issues and that they 'try their best' but it might not be great. The location itself is great, right on the beach and we liked that it was near a lot of restaurants/shopping areas. The condo is old, toilet is loud and unsure if it was even going to flush but makes sounds for quite a while then flushes, furniture is pretty old and worn out. The gutters are broken off (see photo) so the water completely pools on the patio. There was dust and spiders in areas, as well as ants in the bathroom. I liked the toiletry box provided with shampoo/conditioner/soap and the kitchenette had similar box of items with soap. Kitchen was clean, you must clean any of the dishes used. Hair found on the bathroom floor outside of the shower. We used our own blankets. There's lots of towels, and extra pillows which was nice. TV was good.

Just like I recall from decades gone by, the low price brews flow freely and at a very reasonable price. The lady at the bar was friendly and efficient. I'm not a big drinker...rarely drink alcohol, actually. But it was a good Colorado koolaid on tap. The also have mixed drinks but that stuff is just too hard on the liver anymore. Place was really busy with several other groups having meetings and activities. Lots of parking although the building was pretty filled with folks. I guess if I lived close by and was inclined to join the Legion I'd be happy being associated with the guys at this post.

The property is beautifully tucked into the Oregon Coast landscape, surrounded by towering trees and greenery, with inviting little sitting areas and quiet nooks throughout the resort. It's the kind of place where you can fill an entire day with activities--or do absolutely nothing and still feel like you had a perfect day. The staff has consistently been warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. Dining is also a highlight, with everything from quick, casual bites at Provisions to an outstanding dinner at The Attic. We've been impressed by both the variety and quality every time we visit. There is also an incredible amount to do. Our family loves searching for the locally blown glass floats hidden around the property, listening to live music, riding the on-site bike trails, borrowing bikes to explore the grounds, golfing, hiking, and relaxing in the warm and welcoming pool and spa area. Salishan is also pet-friendly, which makes it an especially great destination for families traveling with their dogs. One of our favorite things about Salishan is its location. There are beautiful trails right on the property, and you're perfectly situated for exploring the Oregon Coast, including some spectacular nearby hikes, beaches, forests, and waterfalls. What really sets Salishan apart, though, is the atmosphere. It doesn't feel like just another hotel or resort--it feels like a place you actually look forward to coming back to. There is something incredibly peaceful about being here, and every visit seems to leave us wishing we had booked another night. Salishan has become one of our favorite places on the Oregon Coast, and we will absolutely continue returning as often as we can. The Landing at Newport is just that. A welcome destination that's peaceful, yet a short walk or ride away from where all the action is "along the Boardwalk" of Newport Harbor. At the Harbor you'll find incredible family run businesses, shops, restaurants & fisherman selling their catch (to shops & sometimes directly to you!" My room had an impressive view of the entire Bay, the historic Yaquina Bay Bridge, & the sailboats tied at the Embarcadero Yacht Club's Marina. The place was immaculate, the owner & staff caring and willing to please. I can't wait to return with my wife, and maybe my adult children. BTW, the place also has Condos for sale! Who knows? Maybe Newport, OR could become a place to stay for longer than a vacation.

This review is on the rental boats and staff. Did not go on a charter…read more The boats are definitely the best value in the area. $70 for four hours including 3 crab rings is a great deal. They will tell you where to go. The boats are your standard 14'.5' aluminum boat with a 9 HP outboard on it. The motor ran great, it was also new for the season. You need to leave your card as a deposit. I'm not crazy about doing that, but not a big deal. They guy working there was very nice and helpful. The store is pretty small, but has plenty of snacks and drinks as well as fishing supplies and bait, live and refrigerated. I'm not leaving a five star for one reason, they require you to clean the boat when you get back. I was beat from pulling pots and really not in the mood to wash down a boat. They have a hose, so you basically wash everything down to the back and then use a pail to remove the water. The positive is they had the hose right there on the dock next to the boat. I brought my own pots so it was nice to wash them down there instead of later. Big plus for me.

It turned out to be a beautiful day at the beach to top it all off. You pay in the store and they do charge an extra percent if you're paying with a card (don't remember how much) which is a tad annoying but you get over it. Then it's time to head to the boat and meet the extremely friendly and funny crew to head out to sea. The way the crabbing works is that they set pots in the morning and then whichever boat you're on, you pick up a string of pots along the way. Pot after pot the crab were overflowing and everyone has to help! Watch out for the claws, those crabs aren't playing around. We had great luck and caught a TON of crabs. I highly recommend having the crabs cooked & cleaned onsite. We paid under $20 for 34+ crabs. We had crab for weeks! Cost is reasonable, $55 per adult and seemed pretty kid friendly above the age of 5 or so. Will definitely do again!

Tucked behind the Pirate's Plunder in the strip mall on Ferry Slip Rd., this hidden gem was a…read morepleasant surprise after a hot day of driving and wading through tourists during a busy day in July. We were drawn in by the stream of bubbles and cute exterior. The inside is very simple as the business is just getting off the ground. Inside were toys, candy, face painting, and best of all wax-hand dipping! I was most excited about the wax-hand dipping because the only other place I've seen it has fairly restrictive hours and I can never seem to get my day off, a beach trip, and the stars to align with their availability. Luckily the Color Castle has regular hours that would be easy to hit just about any day I would be able to head over for some time away. The staff at the Color Castle were patient, kind, and not at all bothered that my 4 year old wants and asks to touch EVERYTHING. I'm so glad they accept cards and not a cash-only establishment, too like some other places on the coast have gone due to credit card processing fees. I appreciated their flexibility. My daughter and our friend got their hands done. Waxes in every color are available, glitter is available (YAY!) and they can even do posed hands with no questions or problems. We could even have our hand holding a seashell or with another such decoration, which is cool! The last time I had my hand done somewhere, it was very hot and a painful experience. I was concerned about my daughter doing this, but the folks at Color Castle take it slow and easy, dipping the person's hand in icewater between each dip in the melted wax. My daughter was not afraid and felt no discomfort. I was also appreciative of their patience and kindness in explaining each step of the process. The payoff was worth the time and effort, and the expense was minimal, I was surprised at the low prices. It was less than $10 to get my daughter's hand done with three colors, posed, and with glitter. Best summer souvenir we could have gotten!
