When I met him for the first time he was a cocky asshole but not much to choose from in Prescott AZ so I used him for my shoulder surgery. He was rude to my wife in the hospital when she asked how long the surgery would possibly take gave her a smart ass answer. He has a god complex and a real self centered jerk. At the end of my time with him I had no problem telling him that he was a first class asshole. If you have other choices I would take them this guy thinks way to much of himself. read more

When i saw dr chun, he had just moved here from HI- He had an appointment soon as he was new to another practice.. 1/2023.. i thought the appointment went well.. However, I found out he didnt listen to anything I said about my pain. He based my treatment on the Shoulder MRI and not my primary pain concerns. He did mention i might have a tissue disease (had he listened to me about my primary pain concerns and struggles to type - maybe he would have explained the shoulder replacement - although needed.. it would NOT FIX my ability to type and write.) I am disappointed in him as a healthcare provider-. never had surgery with him. He may be a good surgeon- however as a person he didnt care about treating or finding me treatment based on my primary complaint. I never said anything abusive to him- He upset me and stated he didnt remember me telling him .. that the pain while typing and writing was the one I needed fixed asap .. so i could get back to work..as a person that has had many different doctors.. and over 10 orthopedic surgeries.. i can honestly say- he is the only one that ignored my primary pain concerns and had no interest in helping me find additional treatment with another doctor in the same practice for other issues too.. He also put me down as an abusive patient -(i had no knowledge of this) even though i had been seen by other doctors in that practice - he said he didnt feel comfortable being my surgeon since we had a miscommunication issue... he NEVER said i was no longer going to be able to see ANY doctors at the practice again.. i found that out because i called to make an appointment with a doctor that fixed my broken wrist a year later.. He also wrote things in his physician notes that reenforced his lack of listening skills.. i was already listed as disabled with social security disability and trying to work again through the "ticket to work program". Although pain is part of my life everyday. I enjoy working and needed help to keep working .. as i am the patient- i trusted him to help me fix and/or treat the pain stopping me from working. I had a cortizone shot a month priorand it help helped some pain but not my ability to type and write for 8 hours a day. When he said i needed a new shoulder, i didnt know it wouldnt fix that, until a nurse told me they were separate issues.. i still needed a shoulder replacement and have had one since then. As well as many additional tests and treatments to help me be able to understand what causes my different pains and how to have them treated... read more

A year ago my husband went to Dr. Chun with an MRI and x-rays of his right shoulder, arm and hand. He looked at them and told my husband he was fine which he obviously was not - it was starting to atrophy. You could see it happening. A year later he is facing surgery with only 25% use of his atrophied hand. It has deterioated immensely. I would not recommend Dr. Chun to anyone based on our experience. read more

I can only say wonderful things about Dr. Chun. He performed a reverse shoulder operation on me, & the results are fantastic! He is very skilled, knowledgeable, and surrounds himself with great staff. Dr Chun had the experience and background that I was looking for when I discovered that constant shoulder pain and the reduced ability to sleep, drive and perform normal activities of daily living like dressing was not going to get better without a total shoulder replacement. He is very direct in his communication with you; not what I would call soft touch. However, he is highly technically competent and I got a totally functioning new shoulder. Although it has only been two months, I am sleeping again "Fit for Duty" as they say, but not swimming or lifting bar-bells . Therapy is a long term commitment, but I am seeing steady progress. Dr. Chun is the best to ever do it. I had originally seen Dr. Chun back in 2020 for my ACL. It was my first major tear and surgery I have done yet. Dr. Chun helped me and my mom understand everything about the procedure and the recovery time as I was a high school senior getting ready to go to college and play division 1 soccer in the mainland from Hawai'i. Due to unforeseen circumstances I ended up suffering from two meniscus tears in the years of 2022 and 2023 while playing college soccer in the mainland. Dr. Chun He is very knowledgeable, patient, and approachable. I wish all the doctors I work with had his bedside manner. I never felt like he was talking down to me or dumbing down any explanations. My rotator cuff orthoscopic surgery went well. The scars healed very nicely and the pain wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I was referred to Dr Chun by a friend for my hamstring injury. I went in last week Friday and after speaking with him I knew right away I wanted him to do my surgery! He came into the room with such confidence and Aloha. He explained my options and gave me his professional opinion about my options. I felt totally comfortable with him and I knew he was the doc for the job! Got my surgery scheduled for the following Tuesday at the surgery center and now at home recovering! Dr. Chun and all the staff, nurses and Anethesiologists are amazing and friendly! They show care and they work awesome together! The office and surgery center is clean, welcoming and easy to find. This is an update on my review of almost a year ago this date. Nothing new to say other than like a fine wine; it improves with time. This visit was prompted because I wanted a cortisone shot for my hurting knee. (I've been exercising getting ready for the winter ski season and that in itself has caused some aggravation in my knee). So the question posed to me was "Who made you doctor?"..." to think that a cortisone shot will cure your ailments? " The short story is I did in fact get my cortisone shot so my knee is happier but I've been ordered to take additional tests as it may be something else (truthfully, I can't pronounce what Dr. Chun said it might be and I wasn't really paying attention; shame on me) So, tests are on schedule and I'm hopeful this "MAYBE something else" won't interfere with my winter joy of skiing. I am impressed with the organization and protocol within his office for ordering tests outside of his clinic, ordering prescriptions, and the list goes on. What I learned this go around is that Dr. Chun (as I titled my first review"Local Boy does good) is a Leilehua graduate with valedictorian honors, by merit scholarship graduated from the University of Hawaii Manoa Campus, and a couple other credits and accolades that accompany these credentials. This, added to his already great bedside manner, pleasant and humble delivery of diagnosis, true local boy posture and great personality is all the more reason that I'm glad he is my orthopedist. Oh, did I mention he has state of the art modern procedures? Yup! That he does. For decades, I suffered with the after-effects of a hairline fracture of my right shoulder that occurred during a high school basketball tournament back in...well, when I was a high school freshman. I'm 69 years old now. Being your typical high school athlete/idiot, I didn't realize the seriousness of the original injury and began throwing with my right arm since baseball season was starting up and I was one of our high school's pitchers. I figured the soreness would just work itself out. Wrong. It became worse, which, of course, only convinced the high school me to throw harder. I finally threw my arm out of socket - which then began a series of shoulder dislocations. Think: Mel Gibson's character in the Lethal Weapon movies. I would be slipping a shirt over my head, and sneeze - then the shoulder would pop out. Putting the joint back into place required me to writhe on the ground like a dying fish, or bump my shoulder up against a wall until I forced it into place. Needless to say, this chronic dislocation caused me severe pain and royally screwed up my shoulder ligaments. In 1969, I had my first surgery to reattach ligaments to limit the movement of my right arm...dashing my dreams of being a pitcher or quarterback for my high school. Flash forward to early November, 2019, after I had tried all types of "non-surgical solutions" in a failed search for pain relief including acupuncture, NSAIDs like Naprosen, and all manner of topical creams and gels (and cannabinoids, of course). I had a brief consultation with Dr. Gary Blum, of Orthopedic Associates, and after he examined some x-rays, he exclaimed, "You're a perfect candidate for shoulder replacement." He seemed too eager, so I tried to get another opinion from Dr. Darryl Kan, also in that office. Dr. Kan said that he refers all shoulder patients to Dr. Kyle Chun. OK, so I went to see Dr. Kyle Chun. When I met with Dr Kyle Chun, he listened to my medical history, examined the x-rays and then ordered an MRI scan so he could see the condition of the joint more clearly. When he came into the exam room, he stood at the doorway, placed his hands on his hips, and exclaimed, "That's the worst I've ever seen!" I told him that I've been working on it for the last 50 years so I wouldn't expect it to be in "like new" condition anymore. We laughed. Dr. Chun got serious and told me that - if we do this - he expects that there isn't enough bone remaining in the scapula to support an anatomical Total Shoulder Replacement (TSR). If that's the case, he would insert a *Reverse* TSR - where the joint ball would be placed into the scapula and the joint cup into my arm. I told him that I wanted to do this because I didn't want to continue suffering with this shoulder. Stage 4 osteoarthritis is no fun, especially if you have to live with it for another 10-20 years. We scheduled the procedure for early March, 2020 - just before the freeze on all elective procedures was put into place. The procedure lasted about 2 1/2 hours. Dr. Chun told me afterward that, "It was super tight in there." But the x-ray that he took immediately after the procedure showed it to be a complete success (see image). It took me several weeks to realize that my shoulder would not dislocate if I moved it into angles that - for decades previously - I avoided because of the pain and fear of the joint dislocating. I'm writing this review five months after the procedure was done. I'm still going to physical therapy (with Ken Morimoto of Holomua Physical Therapy), but the shoulder joint is working perfectly. I've regained far more range of motion that I ever thought possible, and am looking forward to playing my first round of golf this coming weekend! If you are living with shoulder pain, don't delay - consult with Dr. Kyle Chun if you are considering TSR. His youthful appearance belies the deep knowledge and extensive experience he has in this area of medical specialization. My family and I are very grateful to have found Dr. Chun . He performed a difficult surgery on my son's shoulder. This was a very emotional time for us, as his shoulder injury was the result of a seizure. Dr. Chun was extremely knowledgeable in what he does. Very informative and had a positive attitude throughout my time with him. I've been to many doctors prior to meeting Dr. Chun. Got to a point that I was ready to give up. So grateful for finally finding someone that is truly an expert in his profession. Apparently I got diagnosed with with a hip issue called "Femoral Acetabular Impingement" aka FAI. Both Dr. Chun and his staff were very helpful. I am a PM&R doctor who had a progressively worsening right shoulder injury. The MRI and subsequent MRI arthrogram were not really diagnostic. He repaired my shoulder and biceps tendon back in March of 2018 and he found major pathology. The surgery was one of the best things I have ever done for my health and well being. However, I was referred to Dr. Chun three different time and was rejected by his staff, for a issue that was not my fault. Two referrals were properly made from his own associates.
