    Updating my review. This was not a perfect Kyte experience but I do appreciate that the Company reached out to me and provided me with Kyte credits to rectify my issues. Customer service could've been better in the moment, but I appreciate the care after the fact.

    I booked a Kyte 3 weeks ago to take my daughter and her friends to a water park for her birthday. A few hours before delivery, Kyte out of the blue cancelled my reservation with no explanation, leaving me to scramble for another solution on a Saturday afternoon. After contacting Kyte support they told me it was a system error, they couldn't fix it and offered me $50 in credit. I can understand a glitch, but the way in which they took no responsibility or steps to help me fix the problem, renting a replacement car will cost ~$500 now ensures I will never trust Kyte again and you shouldn't trust them either.

    Loved my Volkswagen Passat! It was spacious, fuel economic and clean. We were able to fit 4 carry on suitcases and 4 duffel bags in the trunk! Both pick up and returns went very smoothly. Surfers were early which was helpful to us. Did not have to worry about tolls as their bill was passed directly to me through Kyte. Got a great price and will definitely continue to use Kyte.

    I've been using Kyte since 2020 & have found it convenient when renting a car. There's clearly room for improvement in the User experience, but that's expected with any growing company. When I am interacting with them, I get messages from texts from multiple numbers in addition to messages on the App. It's confusing, to say the least. I also get requests to extend my car - and in the few cases I was interested, I was told it's not possible. I still kept going through kyte despite these inconveniences. But today is the time I have considered going back to the rental car companies. My pick up was delayed (my own fault), and we had acknowledged a 9:30am pick up time. I needed to move the car to a new spot to avoid a parking ticket after 8am. When I turned off the car in its new parking spot (literally drove down my block & turned around to park across the street from last location), I received a text asking me if the car had been towed. I've accepted for a long time that my data is out there, but this just creeped me out completely. Felt like being stalked, and that's not a feeling I'm looking to have when renting a car. My husband had to wait over 2 hours, and the processing of those who had pick ups earlier than us was molasses / snail slow (insert any given adjectives) so that was quite frustrating. When it finally got to our turn, we got a different level vehicle than we had booked so that the SUV given to us was a major gas guzzler which we obviously did not appreciate. Thankfully, we knew we won't have to fill up till we got back to our hometown where gas prices are more reasonable than SF proper. +1 Star for the staff in charge giving customers who have waited so long (pretty much everyone that morning) a waiver from having to fill up on gas for the rental car return, that was a nice gesture and we appreciated it as we would definitely pick a gas saver vehicle vs the major gas guzzle (it was a. American car, sadly) which consumed 1/2 a tank of gas just going from SF back to Sac. This can be compared to the Korean branded SUV (smaller yes, but not by much and plenty big enough for our needs for this trip) that we rented from another rental company which had SO many choices for us that we had a hard time picking one, which used barely 1/4 tank for us to drive from Sac to SF. It turns out that this Avis location did not have cars on their lot ready for their customers and had to send a bunch of their staff in 1 van to pick up all the vehicles they needed from their SFO location to this one near the embarcadero so that was why it took so long. Each vehicle had to be cleaned on the inside and go through the car wash. Perhaps they needed to pick up cars from SFO earlier before their customers' scheduled pick up time and maybe even late in the night the day before. In short, it was a disappointing experience, and thank God we were not in a hurry to get somewhere like many of the other customers were, who has to catch a flight or get somewhere on time. Otherwise, we'd been extra stressed, so we waited over 2 hours, from our pick up time, but at least we did get gas comped and the vehicle was relatively new although quite gas consuming and not the smoothest drive, according to my husband. Hopefully Avis would be better next time.

Long Story for those who enjoy a long walk in the park: we rented a car to drive home from SF after a trip. 2 stars: The car was not ready and I had to wait over an hour beyond my scheduled time to receive the car. Many others who booked for pick-up times 1-2 hours before my pick-up time had to wait over 2 hours to get their cars as the cars were still being transported from SFO to Beach Street office that morning instead of earlier and they were not yet washed or detailed, so everyone had to wait and there was a huge line. 1 star: It was appreciated that the staff compensated by waiving the gas so that we did not have to refill the gas, but we also got a gas-guzzler we would not been happy with, so it was fair for the time we had to wait and the lack of choice of cars (we would've picked a better gas-mileage, more fuel efficient standard car which was the category we had booked), that we were comped the gas. We do appreciate this convenient location to the SF Fisherman's Wharf, but there should be better coordination between this office and the SFO one to ensure there's enough cars for the rental appointments pending at this Beach St. office. Total = 3 stars: Thankfully, I was not in a hurry to catch a flight or go somewhere other than home after a trip, but others in the line ahead of me were in danger of missing their flights, etc. and in fact one person had to abandon their rental car reservation and had to opt for an Uber in order to get to their flight on time and not miss their flight.

Hailing for Manhattan, I'm just so not interested in owning a car. ZipCar is amazing for a few hours to a day, but a proper rental car is best when you want to go somewhere farther away for a long weekend. My biggest issue is that the hours are convenient for the workers, but not so much for customers. You can drop off past closing time (5:30PM on weekdays, 1PM on weekends) until midnight, but will have to pay an extra $15 valet fee. Very inconsiderate to customers since long weekend trips usually end late in the evening, but worth the $15 just to be done with it all. The lone guy at the desk was very quick and nice. I liked having the hotel valet take care of bringing out and returning the car to avoid obnoxious parking garage navigation myself. I didn't experience any of the delays other people complained about, but then again, I was the only customer each time so that might have biased things. The price was very reasonable, just google "Budget Coupon Code" before you book online to find some discounts. Try to avoid the add-on fees, I mean who pays $15.95/day for GPS when everyone's smart phone has Google Maps nowadays? A cheap car phone charger can keep you navigating the whole time despite battery hungry 3G. Also, research your credit card's car insurance policy, it probably covers a lot of the things Budget offers (and you know their sales people won't tell you about redundant coverage!).

I normally try to assume best intent with businesses that dissapoint me, and would like to think my reviews reflect my constrcutive attitude. But this is a different beast. I called ahead of pickup to see if I could come early. Within the hour 10% of my team was laid off, so I made my way at the original pickup time at 5pm. NO WHERE IN MY RESERVATION EMAIL DOES IT SAY THE OFFICE CLOSES AT FIVE, NOR DOES IT SAY MY META BADGE IS REQUIRED. It says my pickup is at 5pm. I arrive at 5:02. Office closed.. wtf? I go to the bellhop, he calls the avis guy 'who just left', speaks to him on the phone, and tells me he's not coming back. Im now SOL to pickup my father from the airport that evening. How hard would it have been for this jerk to pick up the phone and give me a courtesy call that the office was closing, given I had JUST spoken with him, and how much business I give this location. I come back Saturday morning, new agent assigns me an electric vehicle which I specifically had Avis annotate I never want again after my Tesla reservation last year. Why would they give my gas vehicle away if I had a reservation? The man then refuses to give me the keys without my Meta badge, on a SATURDAY. Naturally I didnt have it on me, nor have I been asked for one in the last three reservations. He refused to accept a LETTER OF EMPLOYMENT I had on my phone given recent layoff threats. Outside I was given the keys by the man who screwed me by leaving the office early and I point blank kindly asked him, how hard it would have been to give me a call. HE LIED TO MY FACE, and told me he left at 5:05 after waiting for me, which is of course BS; and the worst part is he said it with a smirk on his face. I cannot stand this smug, atrocious lack of customer service or empathy from an established business like this. It is mind blowing. We got the car as a weekly rental and picked it up late wednesday night, drove it around on thursday, left on friday... the car had an interesting smell which we brought to the attention of the Dollar attendant and he mentioned to just leave the window open and it should go away. On friday morning, my wife and I noticed we had multiple welts and bug bites on our body... we then had dinner with some great friends and they brought it to our attention it could be the car... Infact it had to be... All the signs pointed to the car, how are both of us getting welts, the car still smelled, and that night (friday) as we drove to Ventura, i killed a bug in the car. The next morning en-route to Hearst Castle, we caleld the dollar customer service and they offered to exchange the car when we got to SFO, but no further compensation... On the way from Hearst Castle to San Fran, I was able to kill four more bugs, and just made the 4 hour drive very uncomfortable. We took the car to a small location at the Wharf, the gentleman was there, but gave us a replacement car in really poor condition and could not provide us with anything else. the breaks were awful, the inside smelled, the seat kept moving, all we thought about was how can you rent this car to ANYONE... worst of all, the tired flattened out during our drive and had to refill it. I dont know what happened, but once we filled it, it was fine.... The next day we dropped off the car in San Jose to get a new one, THis car was very good, but after all the complaining we did, still nothing but an exchange in car. The people were rude and rushed us out of the car, sadly the lady who rushed us got into an accident with our car as we was sending it to be fixed, she rear ended another dollar car and yelled and said that the breaks were really bad, but literally that was our car 10 minutes ago! imagine! Tookt he car, had no problems with the new one... and returned it and the lady, although she was really nice to us, she understood how much trouble we went through and offered us a little compensation and told us to call the location we rented from. We did just that, called Santa Ana Dollar, over and over, 3 to 4 times a day... its sad to even mention, but we kept getting put on hold, said they were busy and could not help, they would call us back, literally, spoke to the manager there, BRET, he put us on hold for 40 minutes only to call off a different phone to hear he went on Lunch, at 10am? LITERALLY the WORST car rental experience My wife an I ever had. PLEASE pay the 10 dollars a day more and RENT WITH ANOTHER COMPANY! BRET - Awful manager at the Santa Ana Location, its not been 2 weeks and am STILL waiting for any call back.... I really hope this review helps someone one day.

I went with a Toyota Corolla, which I drive personally. I like to stick with something I'm used to. It was about $250 for four days. I arrived right on schedule and the car was waiting for me. The gentleman behind the counter was super helpful and friendly. He walked me through everything I needed to know, even the details on tolls and stuff. The car was about two blocks from their office, but they explained how to get to it and even had a print out of a map to help get me there. It also had pictures so there was no way I was going to miss it. The car was a 2021 and in great condition and had a full tank of gas. Another positive of getting a Toyota is the gas mileage. I went to Sonora and back (roughly 275 miles) and I only had to refill once before I dropped it off... which was also super easy. I simply dropped it off where I picked it up and handed the valet the key. I would totally rent from here again if I find myself in the heart of San Francisco and in need of a ride for a few days.

Customer service was super clear and nice, got all the paperwork done when I arrived, and gave clear directions for pick up and drop off. Cars are located at a garage two blocks up from the office, so adjust accordingly if in a rush or carrying a lot of luggage. Drop off is super easy, just leave the keys with the parking attendant and you're done! My only small issue is that as a small local company, you might be in a bit of a bind if you need service or have an accident after hours and far out of the city.

The day of the reservation, the check in was fast and the Upgrade was at a good price. Also, I was dropping the car at a location that was not 24 hour open, so they called them and explained me where to leave the keys and the car, which was really helpful. Lastly, they helped us to open a business account to save extra money for future reservations. The car itself was an X5, well cleaned. I didn't have any problems during trip. 5/5

    Sixt Rent a Car gets 1 star from me for a completely unfair and stressful experience. After our…read morerental, we returned the car and did a full walk-around inspection with a Sixt employee, who carefully checked the entire vehicle inside and out. He then signed the return document and wrote "No new damages were detected." To protect ourselves, we also took a detailed, time-stamped video of the whole car (interior and exterior, with close-ups) at drop-off, clearly showing there was no damage. Despite all of that, we later received a letter from Sixt claiming we had damaged the car and trying to hold us financially responsible. It feels like they're ignoring their own employee's signed report and our clear video evidence. This has turned what should have been a simple rental into a frustrating dispute. Based on this experience, I do not trust Sixt's post-rental damage process and would strongly caution others to be extremely careful--or consider renting elsewhere.
