On March 10, 2026, I reserved an SUV for a WEDDING - to be picked up on May 21, 2026 at noon…read more(confirmation no. 2094751002). On May 20 at 5:01 pm, I received a voicemail message from Nick essentially stating that he had been trying to locate a 7-seat SUV for me for the "past couple of days" but that it had been challenging. I called back at 6:43 p.m., but the office closed at 6pm. I called the following day at 8:24 am and spoke to Vincent, the Branch Manager. He essentially told me the same thing - stating that they didn't have an SUV at that given moment and that they would call me when they secure one. When I asked why they would confirm an SUV reservation if they did not have the vehicle, his response was, "That's a good question." Since I needed the car in less 4 hours and they could not guarantee anything, I decided to cancel the reservation. Vince sent me an email at 8:43 am, stating, in part: "When we connected today, I understand you preferred not to proceed under those circumstances." Okay, where do I begin?!? First of all, it was not my preference to cancel the reservation I booked months ago. To continue to sit around and wait for you guys to continue working on TRYING to secure an SUV for my rental would be absurd and, quite frankly, just plain stupid. I needed the vehicle in less than 4 hours. So, while it was NOT my preference to cancel, I had no other logical choice!!! Second, if you guys had been trying to secure a vehicle for me for a "couple of days," I would have appreciated a phone call a lot sooner (NOT 7 hours prior to the scheduled pick up) - allowing me to explore other alternatives. Does that sound reasonable to you guys? Does that make sense? How about not confirming a reservation when you guys don't have the vehicle? Does that sound logical? This is just a quick review for folks out there looking for a rental place. I plan to write to the company's CEO and Better Business Bureau. As we all know, they won't listen!!! But consumers will... I love how the company's response below directs me to their website - unbelievable. Clearly, they're not in the business of making things "right!"

I rented a car here and will never do it again for the following reasons:…read more 1) Terrible customer service. The site manager, Brianna Jimenez, will not respond to emails or in writing. I visited this branch no less than four times in an effort to get rent a car in my neighborhood and support my local business. Because Ms. Jimenez was tied up initially, she handed me her business card and asked me to call or email to follow up. She never once responded to email or called me back before I returned the rental car. 2) Fraudulent practices. Because they did not have the SUV that I rented, Ethan Glober verbally offered me a minivan at the same rate. I made my initial reservation at the weekly rate because it looked to be the same as the what five days would have cost. Mr. Glober scrolled to the signature block on his iPad to get me on my way at the end of the day, as this Enterprise closes in the early evening. It was my mistake not to have reviewed the contract, which he said would be emailed to me. 3) Major issues with contract. I told both Brianna and Ethan that I intended to drive the car cross country and drop it off on the East Coast. I made 3 online reservations with the drop off in Delaware (prior to Ethan writing up a the new contract that I failed to review). Ethan wrote up the contract 1) for drop off in SF, 2) for the daily instead of the weekly rate, and 3) for a higher rate for the minivan (instead of at the SUV rate that he verbally promised me, because they did not have an SUV on site). I honestly thought he had been sloppy and emailed the site manager immediately regarding the error. She did not respond. I genuinely want to support local businesses, and it makes me sad to leave a negative review. It sucks that these guys don't have the integrity to honor their word.

-3 Stars for super duper delayed pick up for a rental car we had scheduled to be ready after we…read morereturned to SF from a trip. My husband had to wait over 2 hours, and the processing of those who had pick ups earlier than us was molasses / snail slow (insert any given adjectives) so that was quite frustrating. When it finally got to our turn, we got a different level vehicle than we had booked so that the SUV given to us was a major gas guzzler which we obviously did not appreciate. Thankfully, we knew we won't have to fill up till we got back to our hometown where gas prices are more reasonable than SF proper. +1 Star for the staff in charge giving customers who have waited so long (pretty much everyone that morning) a waiver from having to fill up on gas for the rental car return, that was a nice gesture and we appreciated it as we would definitely pick a gas saver vehicle vs the major gas guzzle (it was a. American car, sadly) which consumed 1/2 a tank of gas just going from SF back to Sac. This can be compared to the Korean branded SUV (smaller yes, but not by much and plenty big enough for our needs for this trip) that we rented from another rental company which had SO many choices for us that we had a hard time picking one, which used barely 1/4 tank for us to drive from Sac to SF. It turns out that this Avis location did not have cars on their lot ready for their customers and had to send a bunch of their staff in 1 van to pick up all the vehicles they needed from their SFO location to this one near the embarcadero so that was why it took so long. Each vehicle had to be cleaned on the inside and go through the car wash. Perhaps they needed to pick up cars from SFO earlier before their customers' scheduled pick up time and maybe even late in the night the day before. In short, it was a disappointing experience, and thank God we were not in a hurry to get somewhere like many of the other customers were, who has to catch a flight or get somewhere on time. Otherwise, we'd been extra stressed, so we waited over 2 hours, from our pick up time, but at least we did get gas comped and the vehicle was relatively new although quite gas consuming and not the smoothest drive, according to my husband. Hopefully Avis would be better next time.

TLDR: 2 stars for delayed pick up (cars not on the lot and not ready even after they arrived), but…read more1 star added for gas comped. Long Story for those who enjoy a long walk in the park: we rented a car to drive home from SF after a trip. 2 stars: The car was not ready and I had to wait over an hour beyond my scheduled time to receive the car. Many others who booked for pick-up times 1-2 hours before my pick-up time had to wait over 2 hours to get their cars as the cars were still being transported from SFO to Beach Street office that morning instead of earlier and they were not yet washed or detailed, so everyone had to wait and there was a huge line. 1 star: It was appreciated that the staff compensated by waiving the gas so that we did not have to refill the gas, but we also got a gas-guzzler we would not been happy with, so it was fair for the time we had to wait and the lack of choice of cars (we would've picked a better gas-mileage, more fuel efficient standard car which was the category we had booked), that we were comped the gas. We do appreciate this convenient location to the SF Fisherman's Wharf, but there should be better coordination between this office and the SFO one to ensure there's enough cars for the rental appointments pending at this Beach St. office. Total = 3 stars: Thankfully, I was not in a hurry to catch a flight or go somewhere other than home after a trip, but others in the line ahead of me were in danger of missing their flights, etc. and in fact one person had to abandon their rental car reservation and had to opt for an Uber in order to get to their flight on time and not miss their flight.

My life was seriously at risk on Feb. 2 because of negligence from this company, and the employees…read moreat this location lacked compassion. I had the absolute worst experience from Hertz this week. And before I get to that, I want to highlight something horrible that set off the rental. The internet was down so even though I pre-checked in on the app, I was delayed. Then he decided to do it with paper form, but he took a photo of my driver's license and credit card. WHY THE HELL did he do that? He claimed he didn't want it on the form. So instead, was it okay to have it on the phone? I was NOT happy with that and asked that it be deleted, and he said he would when the internet was back up. I am still worried about potential fraud or theft. And it gets worse.  On my way to my destination, I blew a tire on the very busy six-lane Hwy. 101. I called 911, and the dispatcher alerted a tow truck driver for roadside clearance. She also said, because I was alone, to keep my seatbelt on and lock my doors. How very reassuring.  An officer arrived and offered to change the tire for me while we waited for the tow. He popped the trunk: NO SPARE TIRE. He said he had never seen that before. There was a jack and a spot for it. But the tire was removed.  Because Hertz removed a basic simple safety tool, I had to be towed from the highway and dropped underneath an overpass. (The company's role is only to remove vehicles, not to help beyond that.) There was trash and debris everywhere, broken down cars, and apartments that were junky. I WAS SCARED.  I called Hertz and the bot that answered kept telling me my reservation was cancelled, which it was not because I obviously had my car. It was very stressful. I finally talked to a real person who contacted a AAA towing company. I picked up a new vehicle at the airport Hertz - the rep there was very nice. But by then it was almost 5 hours after I picked up my car and I was only driving what should have taken 30 minutes. I missed lunch, a business meeting and other work time.  I was charged $120 for the tow - WHEN I WAS PUT INTO A SITUATION BY HERTZ in San Fran. NOT the end of the story. When I returned the new vehicle on Feb. 4 at Fisherman's Wharf site, the rep shrugged and said not all vehicles have spares. I said it has a jack and a spot for the tire - the tire was missing. Then he backpedaled and said it depends on the state where the vehicle came. THAT IS AWFUL.  It should not matter if I rent a car from California or Arkansas or Illinois or Texas. SOMEONE at Hertz put me at risk, and there was no remorse, concern or attempt to fix.  This is a massive safety concern.

Great experience!!…read more We rented a X1 and they called us the day before to confirm the reservation. Also, I asked them if they had any X3, if the price difference was not considerable. The day of the reservation, the check in was fast and the Upgrade was at a good price. Also, I was dropping the car at a location that was not 24 hour open, so they called them and explained me where to leave the keys and the car, which was really helpful. Lastly, they helped us to open a business account to save extra money for future reservations. The car itself was an X5, well cleaned. I didn't have any problems during trip. 5/5

Sixt Rent a Car gets 1 star from me for a completely unfair and stressful experience. After our…read morerental, we returned the car and did a full walk-around inspection with a Sixt employee, who carefully checked the entire vehicle inside and out. He then signed the return document and wrote "No new damages were detected." To protect ourselves, we also took a detailed, time-stamped video of the whole car (interior and exterior, with close-ups) at drop-off, clearly showing there was no damage. Despite all of that, we later received a letter from Sixt claiming we had damaged the car and trying to hold us financially responsible. It feels like they're ignoring their own employee's signed report and our clear video evidence. This has turned what should have been a simple rental into a frustrating dispute. Based on this experience, I do not trust Sixt's post-rental damage process and would strongly caution others to be extremely careful--or consider renting elsewhere.

DECENT STAFF - but cars are not the greatest.....#worstcarrentalever…read more HORRIBLE! I wish I could not give it a star rating. This might be long, but its worth the read. My wife and I were about to take a road trip from Los Angeles to San Francisco, we picked up the car from Santa Ana Airport (Even worst than all the others we went too)... We got the car as a weekly rental and picked it up late wednesday night, drove it around on thursday, left on friday... the car had an interesting smell which we brought to the attention of the Dollar attendant and he mentioned to just leave the window open and it should go away. On friday morning, my wife and I noticed we had multiple welts and bug bites on our body... we then had dinner with some great friends and they brought it to our attention it could be the car... Infact it had to be... All the signs pointed to the car, how are both of us getting welts, the car still smelled, and that night (friday) as we drove to Ventura, i killed a bug in the car. The next morning en-route to Hearst Castle, we caleld the dollar customer service and they offered to exchange the car when we got to SFO, but no further compensation... On the way from Hearst Castle to San Fran, I was able to kill four more bugs, and just made the 4 hour drive very uncomfortable. We took the car to a small location at the Wharf, the gentleman was there, but gave us a replacement car in really poor condition and could not provide us with anything else. the breaks were awful, the inside smelled, the seat kept moving, all we thought about was how can you rent this car to ANYONE... worst of all, the tired flattened out during our drive and had to refill it. I dont know what happened, but once we filled it, it was fine.... The next day we dropped off the car in San Jose to get a new one, THis car was very good, but after all the complaining we did, still nothing but an exchange in car. The people were rude and rushed us out of the car, sadly the lady who rushed us got into an accident with our car as we was sending it to be fixed, she rear ended another dollar car and yelled and said that the breaks were really bad, but literally that was our car 10 minutes ago! imagine! Tookt he car, had no problems with the new one... and returned it and the lady, although she was really nice to us, she understood how much trouble we went through and offered us a little compensation and told us to call the location we rented from. We did just that, called Santa Ana Dollar, over and over, 3 to 4 times a day... its sad to even mention, but we kept getting put on hold, said they were busy and could not help, they would call us back, literally, spoke to the manager there, BRET, he put us on hold for 40 minutes only to call off a different phone to hear he went on Lunch, at 10am? LITERALLY the WORST car rental experience My wife an I ever had. PLEASE pay the 10 dollars a day more and RENT WITH ANOTHER COMPANY! BRET - Awful manager at the Santa Ana Location, its not been 2 weeks and am STILL waiting for any call back.... I really hope this review helps someone one day.
