Don't ignore these reviews like I did. It really is that bad. I ignored the reviews because I thought "I'm not gonna get steak. Maybe they just have bad steak." Mistake. It's all bad. Just don't go! The decor and especially outside sofa chairs are very inviting. It is a facade; a trick; a lie. Una mentira. First red flag: this place has multiple names: L'Argentina Grill Argentina Steakhouse "The Steakhouse" (huge painted on building) There are two foods I love the most: tacos and hamburgers. So when I go to Cancun/Mujeres I eat lots of tacos. Eventually I crave hamburgers. Enter Argentina. The service was pretty poor. I've traveled plenty and understand the difference between service in the US vs elsewhere. Here we were just ignored or passed over too long. Eventually we got water and ordered a bottle of wine. They struggled a bit suggesting wines. Everything we ordered was our server's favorite... :) lucky us. Ordered some appetizers. I didn't like them and don't remember what they were. Got dinner (burger and fries). The fries were lame. I don't even mind frozen fries. But these were just bland and useless. The burger patty seemed like it was steamed or boiled. I didn't like it. Any fast food burger joint, in Mexico or the US, would have been superior. Service was slow and not helpful. I ate at about 12 restaurants in Cancun and Mujeres, and they were all delicious, except for this one place. And this was by far the priciest (well, except for the beachside dinner at the ritz which was fine dining on another level... not fair to compare) If you eat at this restaurant, after reading these reviews, that's your bad. Don't be me. Don't be a sucker. Spend way less money for way better food and service, anywhere on the island. Pick any food stand. Any bar. Any hotel. Any restaurant. They all have better food. Pick any of them. Two stars because the wine wasn't terrible, and some of the food was edible. But seriously teetering on giving a 1 star. It was absolutely not worth it. I will definitely never go back. On an island in the Caribbean, maybe I shouldn't have sought out beef at all. Next time I'll stick to local fare (seafood) at restaurants that aren't clearly created to gouge tourists. I kinda feel responsible, because in retrospect, this place is clearly a tourist trap racket. Either way, do yourself, your wallet, and your loved ones a huge favor: eat anywhere else. read more

So this one is really a struggle, from the outside we were attracted by the beautiful blue seats and the atmosphere, the night we came in there was a lot of onboarding of new people, all very nice but learning the ropes, our server apologized and explained and even joked with us about it all that was just fine with us we were happy having drinks (I had wine) and casually enjoying the people watching from Our seats. We ordered the Mexican parrillada and it had steak, sausage, pork and chicken. When the parrillada arrived I cut into the steak, it was blue-way under cooked. We sliced it and used the hot grill to cook it on both sides, food was ok not the best not the worst. The table next to us ordered a "strong mezcal" drink her request and upon arrival she was so disappointed they left. I felt really bad for this place and wanted it to be so much better but they have some work to do. read more

Wolf In Sheep's Clothing, or Lipstick On A Pig! This is such a beautiful restaurant, from the street as well as from inside. But there's a dirty little secret you should know about. Their so called "Argentina" beef may just be the worst cuts you'll ever experience, and you could be in for a fleecing. I'd give it half a star if I could, because the drinks were passable and the portobello starter was actually pretty good. My wife and I ordered the ribeye and New York. When presented at the table, we had to have the "chef" come out and verify that our orders were not switched, as neither one looked like the cuts they pretended to be. No, we were assured they were correct. Now, I've eating New York cuts around the world, and my wife (being from Montana) knows her ribeyes. That's where the disappointments began to snowball. The steaks were cooked perfectly at medium rare, but the rest was the wolf in sheep's clothing. Not only did we have to literally saw through the meat, but eat bite was a chewy, sinewy chunk of garbage that ended up on our plates. There was not a single bite that I was able to chew and swallow without having to spit out half of the piece or better. To make matters worse, get this: 1. The server's comment was that a New York cut is kind of fatty, and would I like it cooked further. This had nothing to do with the "marbling," which may have actually been a welcome addition. Cooking it further was certainly not going to help it one bit. 2. They falsely acted sorry, like it had never happened before. 3. They offered a free dessert, like that was going to fix it. 4. They offered coffee too. 5. In the meantime, the table next to us had ordered a New York, and as they slid out of the booth next to me, I inquired about their experience. Exactly the same. Tough and chewy. 6. After an eternity of being ignored, because nobody seemed to want to take any responsibility, we had to ask another server for our check. 7. Full price, steaks ($50 USD) and all, like nothing had ever happened. No monetary consideration whatsoever. I asked to speak with the manager, and told him what an insult his food was, and what an insult it was that I had to pay for it. I told him I'd never pay for a steak this bad stateside. He looked at me without saying a word or offering any remorse or compensation. You know who the chef was that verified out cuts of meat? Same guy. We question whether they actually eat their own meat. My wife said they should speak to their supplier. I say they shouldn't have to if they're bragging about how great their steaks are. We were cruising around Hidalgo looking for a scorpion shot and finally found one here at L'Argentina. If you haven't tried it, you have to try it once; only once. I wish I could say the scorpion shot made me see visions (as legend has it), but I think the visions I saw were for all the beer consumed before and after the scorpion shot. Anyway, aside from drinking / eating a scorpion we enjoyed the outside bar here at L'Argentina. The staff was very friendly and they made sure we were taken care of the times we visited. I recommend dropping by for a couple of cold brews if you're walking up down Hidalgo. read more

The drinks were watery, the tacos came without the onions and peppers, they passed a Ribeye off as a NY Strip, took forever to get served, and meals came out at different times. This place has a great location! Killer Vibe! The server kinda recruited us off the street and when we looked at the menu we thought... Looks great! Decent price and they take credit cards! We're in! We sit down and all is well. We order shots. Bottles of water and chips n salsa. Then we don't see the waiter for a long time. Long like at least 10 minutes. Then he brings the drinks but no salsa. 10 min later the salsa comes and the food to follow 15 more min later. Now the salsa was awesome! And the veggie fajitas=great! And my 10$ (16 pesos) mushroom quesadilla! Wow! Weirdly good! But after we ordered-He never came back for over 20 min. We wanted more water and shots and hot Sauce( I actually went to bar and got sauces myself) - so while the food was great! The service was not good. The homemade hot Sauce is bomb thoug!!!!!!! So we get the check and give him our card and he says..... Like a taxi driver that gets you to your destination and then says "oh sorry! Our credit card machine is down!" - well that was one of the the reasons we ate there and we would have brought more cash if we knew that!? So we somehow used all our cash to pay for dinner. Leaving no more cash to pay for whatever we did next so we could only go to places with credit or try and find an ATM. All good. Even with all that- it was a pretty swell dinner! After several days eating Mexican food, which I love, I decided to try something a little different so I tried their pizza. Our server screwed up the order and wanted to argue about what I told him rather than fix the problem. I ordered a Hawaiian Pizza and he brought me one with capers and anchovies. He didn't even take it back. His solution? He brought me pineapple slices to put on top of my salt laden pizza. My wife's "Salmon Salad" was lettuce with cold canned salmon on top. It's hard to describe just how terrible the service was. The manager that served us seated us, then had us wait 2 hours before taking our order (after we requested several times). He said the kitchen was backed up and offered us free drinks. Then refused to remove them from the bill, which they insisted on us paying before our food came out. We explained the situation to the manager who insisted it was entirely our fault and he would do nothing to correct it. Furthermore he said it was my fault for making him feel bad we were leaving. Absolutely no attempt to even meet me half way. All I wanted was him to offer a cocktail to make good, our bill was going to be well over 2,000 pesos, this would have cost him nothing. As it as we walked away before he food arrived. I paid the waitress for the drinks, explaining I would not be leaving a tip because of our frustration. She blew a raspberry (polite way of saying she just about spat on us) and turned her back extremely rudely. Whilst I understand her being upset, after being made to wait 2 hours for dinner ok Christmas Eve, it's now 10pm and we are starving. To be clear, we never get angry, never said a rude word. I can't believe how terrible the service was. We live on the island and had been looking forward to this for months. We will never be going back to that venue and certainly never allow our friends to go there. Awful! Please do me a favour and boycott this venue. I really enjoyed this place. So much we went there two out of five nights on the island. Cheap don Julio, complimentary margarita, but my favorite, head on prawns! Quite a variety on the menu, but we tried a bunch of things. I always made sure to have some real shrimp. The only way I can get that in Colorado it seems I have to go to an international market, and prepare it myself (which is fine by me). I love the respect they have for the food. That's real cooking right there. Between fried while snapper and prawns, rice and authentic refried beans... I thoroughly enjoyed. Manuel was a great host, manager, and server. We had no issues. It's Mexico, the service industry is a bit different, you have to flag them down if you want anything. They don't mind, that's how they do it! It's more about the company you are with and taking your time and relaxing. I did have a pasta dish one night... the sauce and seafood was delicious but the pasta was undercooked. There was enough food though, it's hardly a complaint. Bar was cool too. Service was friendly and even tried to tell me I tip too much! That's an honest establishment, but tipping is karma! They will add gratuity for larger parties, that's anywhere so you can't complain about that! Just go here and try it! read more

The first night in Isla Mujeres, my bf and I were hungry and decided to walk around to find a place to eat. As soon as we stepped out of our bnb, it was pouring and we got wet, we walked into this restaurant which was the closest one to our bnb. Huge mistake and I wish I had read the reviews before that. We were in the mood for fish so we ordered Grilled Fish of the Day - Whole Fish. We were told that the fish of the day was red snappers and weigh 900g - 1kg. We waited for 40 minutes and finally our dishes were done. Both of our plates came with approx.. 300 g of fish filets, not the whole fish we ordered. Potatoes were cold and salad was just lettuce. We asked the waiter and he told us it was the new chef's first day and they had so many problems with the food. The customers next to our table who arrived earlier than us told us that we were lucky to get our food because they were still waiting. The fish filets were plain, potatoes were burned and cold, salad had no dressing. Around 15 minutes after our plates were served, the chef came out to announce that he wasn't able to serve food due to some problems in the kitchen. All the customers left and we were the only ones stayed until we finished our food. We received the check and saw that they still charged us the price for the whole fish which was much more expensive than the filets that we actually received. They also charged 18 % of tips, and we paid US$35 in the end for total. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. read more

First of all, the blackened tuna was very good. It was cooked & seasoned well. But... the salad was embarrassing. It was made up almost entirely from lettuce scraps and had only two sun-dried tomatoes in it. Further, a side dish consisted of cold spaghetti noodles. That's all. Staff was very helpful and nice. I was disappointed to see that they tried to pass off a lesser steak for my filet minion that came with my surf and turf. The flavor of the food was excellent. Be careful to read your bill carefully, as they automatically add the tip to the price, then offer how much you should tip your "table" for good & excellent service. Had breakfast here. The fried egg over a crispy tortilla was tasty the salsa verde sauce was excellent! Wish they have serve more than two small slices of fried banana. Could use a slice of bread to mop up the tasty sauce. The server was awesome ! He got me an expresso from another place since their machine was not working. Great service!
