On our final night in Barcelona, we wanted to wrap our our stay with more of a fine dining restaurant, but also a spot that locals would go dine as well. Our hotel concierge recommended L'Olive as a spot for us to try and I'm glad they did! We made reservations about a month or so in advance and we arrived at our dining time and was warmly greeted by the host and also were greeted even by the kitchen chef team as we were walking to our table. The restaurant is pretty large and is very elegant, a true fine dining establishment! The server came by a few minutes later and greeted us as well and provided us with our menus and offered to answer any initial questions we had. They brought some olives and a few pieces of ham as complimentary starters and we ordered wine by the glass for I believe around 5 or 6 euros a glass. The wine was very tasty and a great value. The starters were also a nice touch as well! For appetizers, we ordered the Catalan bread for 4 euros, along with the croquettes for 3 euros each. Both were great choices for starters, and we enjoyed all of them! We also ordered the Gazpacho soup which was on their specials for the night, and it was absolutely outstanding! It tasted very fresh and the server also brought soup toppings by as well which we were able to select from. We ordered the Grilled Beef Filet, including fries for 34 euros each and the cut of meat was absolutely amazing! All food we tried was amazing and very flavorful and was a standout meal from our trip. We highly recommend trying the restaurant if you're in Barcelona! read more

Service: A friend recommended that check out L'Olive while in Barcelona and I'm glad we went! I enjoyed the quick and accommodating dinner service. The interior of the dimly lit restaurant was also stunning! Food: For appetizers, the restaurant provides the most delicious, fresh olives and bread. For my entree, I ordered the paella and was happy that I did. The restaurant will present the paella in a flat pan and then place it on a plate for you - I loved this presentation and the attention to detail! It was very filling and appetizing. Warm, friendly welcome in a very attractive setting. Service was very good, however I cannot say that about the food. We ordered fried squid to begin . It was fresh, just made and served hot. The squid was tender. It needed some sort of dipping sauce to make it delicious, none was offered. The gazpacho was too thick . I ordered the seafood paella. There was only a minuscule amount of pieces of " who knows what?" along with one small prawn and shrimp in a large amount of over salted cooked rice, probably cuttlefish ink. Restaurant L'olive was a classic and beautiful spot with impeccable service. We sat at the lower level in the back corner directly in front of the glass display. Perfect for a date, anniversary dinner, etc. From arrival when they addressed us by name at check in to our send off when they called for our taxi there was an Extremely high level of detail, service and a very generous and attentive staff throughout the whole dining experience. Very welcoming for me and my wife as tourists especially those that aren't familiar with the local food traditions or native in the local tongue (language). Our favorite course hands down was the dessert! The profiteroles which are a personal favorite of mine and must be tried in any establishment were perfect but only to be topped by the extraordinary and divine passion fruit mousse which I could literally go back for every night of the week! read more

This was the worst food and experience we had in our trip to Spain. The Tapas were TERRIBLE and generic, one of them seemed to be straight up 'cheap frozen isle' chicken nuggets. The main course was mediocre at best. The Sangria was once again, the worst sangria I had during my trip. The service was even worse than the food. We were charged 2 euro for asking for butter (it's so crazy that it's funny) and the empty plates sat in front of us for over half an hour, at which point I asked for the waiter and the bill to pay and never go back. Excellent interior, fresh renovation. At the entrance smell of burnt bread. Staff is below average. The waiter did not fully accept the order. Brought only water and went to serve the other three tables. Passing by every time nodded - they say yes yes, I see you. In my opinion, this is unacceptable for such institutions. I had the seafood paella and one of the cheese desserts. Kalamata olives and pork sausage with bread was served as an appetizer. Everything I had was delicious! The seafood paella was very filling and a great portion size. I was very pleased with the wine list, and the restaurant staff was extremely welcoming/accommodating. Outstanding restaurant with old-fashioned (ie, extremely attentive) service. Went with a group of four and sampled the starters, the paella, and the desserts, all of which were outstanding. I tasted like rice over cooked in beef broth and the rice was all burnt to the bottom. Our family which included two adult children visited Barcelona for the first time in quest of excellent cuisine which we discovered in the city until this restaurant. We chose this restaurant based on high reviews; however the service was horrible and wouldn't acknowledge us the whole evening. I ordered a steak medium and was sent back three times because it was well done and then raw. During our wine pour the waiter stopped to get bread for another guest. A great experience in Catalan cuisine--the menu is expansive, the wine list is impressive, and the service is friendly and professional. What still stands out (besides the wine, which was outstanding) was the seafood, in particular the seafood (the cod fritters and sole were amazing) and the goat dishes.
