I love L1 Iniki Popcorn. I always buy from them when I'm at Pearlridge or when I'm in Dillingham. They're right next to Wing Stop. I usually get the Volcano (butter, furikake, mochi crunch) or Japanese Matcha (kettle corn with butter, furikake, matcha powder, mochi crunch). Those two are my faves. Today, I got the small Volcano $6.59. I'm happy that they always pop fresh popcorn when you order it. I definitely notice the difference. This happens to be a kiosk which has wonderful fragrances surrounding it! That buttered, savory scent catches my attention every time! Service was efficient and helpful. I was asked if I wanted a colored popcorn lei or a kaki mochi (arare) popcorn lei... And what color ribbon on the lei? Good questions! I got a colored popcorn lei with a pink ribbon for my niece and a kaki mochi lei with a red ribbon for my friend's daughter. The mochi crunch (arare) leis were already made. Yay! I got a chance to watch the colored popcorn lei being made! A funnel was used to fill the cellophane tube... Genius! I was really happy that this L1 Iniki Popcorn kiosk was open before 10am. I entered the air-conditioned Mall from Ross where I parked for free! Everything went smoothly! My niece and my friend's daughter were happily surprised when they received their popcorn lei! Went to Windward mall and was surprised that the lines for L1 Iniki Popcorn was non stop people lined up and there was constantly customers stopping by to order popcorn or picking up cotton candy and candy corn. They have a great tasting product with just the amount of flavor or items to add to your requests from mochi crunch (arare) to furikake to flavored popcorn if you want to add the sweet with the salty they have a variety of choices. Their popcorn is large and fresh because it was non stop popping to keep up with all the orders. L1 Iniki consistently makes the best hurricane popcorn that I've had. I always get the Volcano flavor which has arare & furikake. Unfortunately, today I was charged for a medium size and given a small size. I watched her put 2 scoops of popcorn in the bag, then take one scoop back out, before she started adding the flavorings. Today I was walking around Windward Mall and it was empty. Even though most schools was still off today because of waiver day . I came across this popcorn kiosk right next door to Fun Factory and in front of Ross's . First of all you can smell the freshly popped popcorn. I got there and I ask the person who was working there if they popped fresh batch if I ordered. I really don't the left over popcorn in the machine I rather have a fresh batch. He replied they always popped fresh popcorn per order. That's why I had to wait awhile until he added the kernels and until the machine gets hot and start popping. I'm not sure what the original name of this kiosk used to be but they changed it to L1 Iniki Popcorn due to some name legality issue. But, no worries, it's still the same owner with the same popcorns. Popcorns: I think the popcorns here are pretty good. They make it fresh so it's not sitting long, you will most times get a fresh bag of popcorn even if you have to wait a little bit (that's the down side). Customer service: depending on when you you go, the weekends and holidays, this place need to be staffed with extra help. There popcorn is always made fresh, give yourself a few extra minutes. There popcorn is full and round, and I always get a small Volcano,butter, furikake and Mochi mix, so good! We order a small for $3.99 and it feeds 2 1/2 people for an entire movie. So much cheaper than the theater. Did I say how fresh it is?! He makes it when you order, so be patient. I love popcorn and I'm so glad I found this place. They have the puffy cloud or mushroom looking kind of popcorn and that's my absolute favorite. Something about that full kernel...mmmm. Below is my original review of this business...abruptly, they changed their name which I'm assuming was because they previously had the same name as a very popular popcorn brand here in Hawaii. (This business has also changed the name of the popcorn I usually order - I have edited my review to reflect that.) Upon first discovering kakimochi (aka arare) went perfectly with popcorn, I thought my life was totally complete. I literally would not eat popcorn without kakimochi...well, ever. Then, I discovered the Inki Popcorn (a mix of popcorn, butter, furikake & sour cream & onion) at L1 Iniki Popcorn and, now my Yelp friends, I can die a happy woman. This, in my opinion, is the only popcorn I'll ever need in my life. Haha, enough with the dramatics, but this sh*t is good! And the best part, I'm like, "Kakimochi?! Oh, please." I know, I know, what kind of local girl says such ludicrous things, but it's true - no need! The popcorn kernels seem like they are on steroids because they are huge - and it's made-to-order and delish. I'll tell you what else is delish, the frosted colored popcorn. Like seriously, each color of this rainbow colored bag has its OWN flavor. No joke. It's not your typical sweet flavored popcorn. Chen, the owner, told me it's a secret how he makes it, and that's fine, but you need to try this! He explained to me, purple is grape, red is strawberry, yellow is lemon, anyway you get the gist. It is pretty darn yummy popcorn if you are feeling like sweet stuff. For the most part, I'm always craving my Iniki popcorn mix - and the price? Pretty cheap - small (one scoop) is like $5-ish and medium (2 scoops) is around $6...they now have a large which will run you about $7. Chen is such a kind man who works hard in this small niche of a business. Honestly, he could probably fill a bigger space (the kiosk is located on the first level near the elevators nearest to (what will be) Ross), but I'm stuck in a rock and a hard place because if his popcorn biz blows up, he might move and I cannot afford to lose this guy in my neighborhood! Great kiosk located in Windward Mall. The prices are reasonable and the popcorn was delicious. We got cheese, butter, and the colorful corn. All 3 carried a lot of flavor and it was quick to make. The team there is talented in preparing it. They are also creative and sell them not only in bags but also trays and tubes. They also sell cotton candy by the container. Didn't get a chance to ask if they cater to parties as that would be awesome if so. Will definitely ask in my next visit. Though they are quick in preparing the popcorn, there's usually a line so go with the idea that you will wait about 5 minutes or so with lines. I will never go to this place again. I got popcorn from here this afternoon. I watched them pop it, however when I got home and tried it 5 minutes later, the popcorn was stale/chewy. It was incredibly disappointing. I immediately took it back and the man at the stand who did not speak English well, tried to tell me that they don't give refunds and I had to call a number. For $10, this was a ridiculous policy. He tried to tell me that there was nothing wrong with the popcorn because they had just popped it. I tried to explain to him that if his kernels were bad, it doesn't matter if you just popped it. He still wouldn't refund me. He then waved me off to talk to the young lady who works with him. She was nice, and at least attempted to help me. While she was in the process of trying to give me my refund, the man came over and said to me, "Well you ate some." I responded my saying, "of course I did, that's how I knew it was stale." I hadn't ate half the bag. However before I got in my car and drove back down there, I wanted to give it a fair shot and make sure that it was more than just one handful that was stale. It was. I invited him a couple times to try it himself and tell me it wasn't stale. He refused every time. The young lady who was trying to refund my card then made the discovery that she didn't have the authority to give refunds on the machine. It took another few minutes of fumbling around and queer looks from waiting customers for the man to finally say that they could give me a cash refund. In business, if someone tells you something isn't right, you should say, "fine," and try to accommodate them rather than telling them they are wrong and dismissing them out of hand. I could see if we were talking about a big ticket item. But we're talking about a $10 bag of popcorn. It's hurting your business more by arguing with me and making future customers wary, than just giving me my money and sending me on my way. Apparently at this place, the customer isn't right (even though I was). I think the fact that he didn't even want to try the popcorn himself is telling. For maybe, if he did and he found it to be bad, he'd have to stop selling, or at least feel bad about selling a substandard product. Better to tell me I'm wrong. Don't go here! We finally left since we got no acknowledgment or anything as we were waiting to order, she continued her conversation knowing we were right there! We love the tsunami popcorn whenever we're around a popcorn stand or shop that offers it and my kids wanted a bag to snack on while shopping around the mall. Let me start by saying I've tried the furikake/mochi crunch variety when a co-worker brought it to the office and OMG, best hurricane knock off ever! I drove to Kaneohe from town and stopped by the kiosk at 8:30pm only to be told by the girl sitting on the stool "we ran out of popcorn." Okay, so the website says you open until 9pm, so make some more! It wasn't so much that they ran out than it was the total lack of apologetic tone in her voice. A sincere "sorry" would have done wonders for my disappointment. So if you're out of popcorn a half hour before the kiosk is supposed to close, do you just sit on your ass until you clock out? This experience totally ruined it for me with this company. No matter how good your product is, the quality of customer service will ultimately make or break you.
