What a great find. Been driving by on Nimitz for years without ever stopping by. Today we took the turn of on Republican and into their spacious parking lot and went in. When we first went in, we were surprised at how small the area was. But we were greeted friendly by the two aunties. Asked us if we had any questions and gave us samples for us to try. As we were looking at the goods, we were informed that we could get "fresh" chips made to order and that it would be about 10-15 minutes. Mind blown. So we waited, and realized that several others entered the shop and pre ordered the taro chips to be ready when they picked up. So now we know. Super fresh, crisp and oh so delicious. And there were several chip seasonings which you could put on just outside the room. They even gave is some individual bags to separate for the different seasonings. A must try when you are in the area.

I have eaten their chips for many years now, but never bought them fresh from the source. The place is small but they have a big parking lot next to the business. When you walk into the store you are greeted by great and friendly staff. I saw what I came for and also bought the freshly fried taro chip. They offered me two packets of seasonings (they had a bunch of flavors for all taste buds) and you get two bags to shake the chip and seasoning in. Outside there are shakers where you can add more seasoning to your chips. I tasted a chip right away and boy was it so delicious. Definitely come here to get them fresh. What a difference! I will return for more for the place is cute, the staff is friendly, and the chips do not disappoint.

Lot of people recommended this place, so it was my first stop right after my flight. They have a huge variety of flavors and sizes! The worker who helped us was so kind and patient in answering questions and giving us suggestions. The prices are reasonable, and they even can ship a box back to your home. They also sell fresh bags that you can season outside in the side area. There's also plants outside, so you can see what you're eating! They have a small lot that you can park in. Make sure to go a little farther up than what Google Maps says (as it tells you that you're there 2 buildings too early).

Why did we take so long to check this place out?!? We love the taro chips and finally made our way to the factory. $25 box of fresh chips - so good! - and the staff were so friendly. Can't wait to return!

Middle June 2025 When you stop at this place, it's a little area in the middle of a street of an industrial portion of Kalihi just after the airport so if you're reading this and you're coming in from the mainland, don't forget to stop at Hawaiian Chip they do four types of potatoes one is a taro the second is a sweet potato the third is a purple Okinawan sweet potato and a fourth is a regular potato that is offered when you buy the variety pack. I highly recommend stopping In for a fresh box or bag of the "original" (sweet potato & Taro mix) --Round about - $10 for a bag and $26 for the box.... Just remember they have a section outside to the side of the store where you can put your own flavor onto your chips. I did really like the garlic, but because I had to share my bag I really have to keep it plain and even then the plain is just as good. If you're really planning a get together, this would be good maybe a day at the beach get a box and then get a container poke and have yourself a picnic ... my mom loves the taro chips with pokè!!! So delicious! There exist probably not many I want to say Hawaiian Chip is the original in terms of a fresh bag or box so if you're hungry for taro chips, and you are the ones that buys those black bags that exists in the store- why not try "Fresh" --this is even better!! get off the plane come into Republican Street just minutes away from the airport and buy yourself some fresh taro chips .... I know I will return!

i standby my 5 star recommendation to this day. this place is always a must for when we visit. something about their chips taste so fresh. the storefront is super small but you can taste some samples while you wait for your fresh ones to be ready. i highly recommend the taro and sweet potato chips, unsalted and unflavored. they are so good plain and it is our favorite! they sell them at the costco in hawaii as well but nothing beats fresh. staff is absolutely wonderful as well. i love hawaiian chip company!

Freshly fried - check! Crispy, unusual treat, easy parking in their own lot, and their own DYI flavor seasonings - check, check, check, check! The taro chips at this location very much check every chip lover's box for texture, taste, and treat factor. The location is in an industrial area. Good service. This is more of an adult snack because the nieces and nephews did not like it at all. Adults though.... ultimate YUM! Would absolutely come back. Please visit and create your own experience.

Some friends recommended the Hawaiian Chip Company, so we stopped by. They have a large parking lot. The store is petite but filled with so many tasty snacks! The ladies working here are so friendly and welcoming. They gave us samples of their fresh Taro and sweet potatoes chips. Also they offered a Saturday Special of Kettle-Style Potato Chips. We were hooked! I also ordered their Pineapple Ice Tea. Fresh pineapples inside. Everything was delicious!

Chips are made to order! My regret was not buying a big box of the taro chips. I ended up buying two standard bags ($8/each) since I didn't think I could eat it in one day. I sprinkled some seasoning outside of the shop on a fresh chip and had one of those eyeroll to the back of my head moment. Definitely would come back here on my next trip home.

Customer service continues to be outstanding! But I'm sad the pineapple ice tea is gone.

No added preservatives mean that none of the products are exported, meaning that they will always be solely local treasures. Luckily, these gems are easy to plunder, found in any grocery store worth its square footage on the island and of course, directly from their factory in Kalihi. Don't let the brand name fool you: They make much more than just bean curd cakes in that unassuming downtown factory. In addition to okara, soymilk, and konnyaku, their natto could be considered something of a game changer, since almost all commercial varieties are frustratingly pre-seasoned with bonito dashi. Long ago I had given up on enjoying this admittedly polarizing pleasure, but Aloha Tofu's delightfully slimy little number is 100% vegan, through and through. For the uninitiated, it's generally a love or hate experience, with little space for ambiguity, although one of the best ways to ease into natto appreciation is with the aid of piping hot miso soup. The warm broth helps dissolve the stringy stickiness, while the miso paste pairs harmoniously with the funky, fermented whole soybean flavor. Even if you've found it hard to swallow before, a better brand can make all the difference in the world.

And even after we moved, we would still drive out just to come here for the seafood. That's how special it was to us. The reason why he chose Tamashiro over other grocery stores was simple--it was quality and because of my Nanay (grandma). His mom purchased from here and made so many delicious dishes. He knew what to look for, and he trusted this place. For him, it wasn't just about buying food... it was about getting the best for his family. My dad isn't the type to say "I love you." He shows it. One of the biggest ways he showed love was through his cooking. Even after a long day on his feet cooking for others, he would come home and cook for us. That was his way of taking care of us. I loved coming here with him. It was a five-senses overload--the smell of fresh seafood, the sound of people talking story, the colors of fish on display. Back then when you were allowed to sample a grape or poke to make sure it was good before buying. But more than that, it was time with him. I still remember the excitement I felt when I saw the pink building with the huge crab. I thought back then was to look at everything but now I understand that it meant something more..... something special--time with my dad. It's with a sad heart that Tamishiro Market is now closed. I've been browsing through The Marketplace at City Square for inspiration. I visit the various produce vendors and look at their fresh veggies. From long beans and taro, to squash, carrots, and bok choi, I try to get the freshest ingredients. That's why Island Green Produce caught my attention. Located next to Chuck E. Cheese, this produce vendor is on the right side of the entrance as you walk through the door. Besides having papaya at 79 cents per pound, Island Green Produce had certain items pre-packaged. They seemed more sanitary - especially the kabocha (pumpkin), which was peeled and cut! I thought, "Wow... that's really convenient!" The friendly, efficient cashier weighed and put my bag of kabocha in a bigger bag. Thank you! I can't wait to add fresh kabocha to my soup! It's colorful and tasty! As the stereotypical Chinese I want things fresh and cheap. Yikes, not sure if that was phrased properly........ Okay, let's start again. When shopping there are 2 factors for me: freshness and economical. And now that we are more conscientious of our health organic is the way to go. So when you factor those 3 together, B I Farm is the place to shop. Located in the far back stall of Maunakea Marketplace (as you enter from the doors that are facing North Hotel Street) B I Farms have their harvest on tables nicely displayed with handwritten prices. In the handful of times I've shopped here the produce are fresh and alive - - when you pick up a bunch of veggies they are not wilted and dried out. They mostly carry vegetables but do carry some fruits (bananas and papayas) depending on availability. As mentioned in John N.'s review, you need to come here early because they get "raided" by the regulars who shop here. Unfortunately, I usually don't make it to Chinatown until after 9am so I pretty much select from their "leftovers". So for you shoppers who are looking for fresh and cheap......I mean, if you're looking for freshness, economical and organic - - then this is the place for you. NOTES: 1) Typical Chinatown parking. You need to either find meter parking or at the municipal lots. With the police substation nearby, I don't recommend you to park on the streets because there are MANY loading zones and you'll get ticketed if you park in these areas. 2) CASH only. 3) They are open daily but keep in mind that Maunakea Marketplace is closed on some MAJOR holidays and when this happens, the gates are closed so vendors and stalls are also closed.
