Quick lunch spot near Barri Gotic, a bit farther away from the touristy parts of town but it was lunch and I was starving. Having only had an espresso for breakfast I went heavy on the lunch with nothing fancy but rather plain. For English speakers this place does cater to y'all pretty easily. Arroz de Cubana was a simple, inexpensive meal with a sunnyside egg on top of rice and some really sweet homemade sauce. Nothing special but at the price of only 5 euros it manages to fill you well. I don't remember the Spanish name but I basically got the equivalent of steak and fries which was decent. Not the best steak I've had but still good overall, it was a bit rarer than medium rare when I got it, but at least it tasted fine. Overall, decent but typical of what I expect from a restaurant.

    Excellent bacalao

We randomly chose here for lunch on Saturday after touring Sagrada Família and en route to La Pedrera. This place seems like a genuine local hangout. There is a huge wine list but surprisingly nothing on beer. Food menu has only a one-page English selections. Thirstily we pointed to the beer-like drinks served at the neighboring table which turned out to be a sweet, light lemon favored libation. All three seafood dishes we tried: paella, calamari and fried bacalao (served on a bed of beans) were fresh and delicious. We're glad we found this surprising good authentic Spanish restaurant.

We were lucky to find this place which was a few minutes from our hotel. On the website, it said…read more"online reservation made before 8 pm gets 30% off." So we went! We were led to the dining room upstairs. The menu has English descriptions beneath each dish. We ordered 10 dishes: Pan Con Tomate (bread with tomato and tomato sauce), Patatas Bravas (Spanish potatoes; not greasy, very tasty), Albondigas de la Yaya (meatballs with tomato sauce; very tender meat), Calamares a la Andaluza (fried squid; nicely cooked and not rubbery, like them alot), Bastoncitos de Pollo (homemade chicken nuggets with BB sauce; crispy and tender, tasty BB sauce), Empanada Compesina (not too crazy about this one), Empanada Picante (spicy meat; it is okay), Spaghetti Carbonara (very soft, lots of sauce; nice dish), Yakimeshi (rice with squid and shrimp; my favorite!), and Macareno (hamburger, doble cheese, lettuce, tomato, bacon, and fried egg; very juicy, mouth watering and very American hamburger!) Water is a very pricey item in Europe. We ordered three bottles of water at 2.30 EUR or 2.60 USD each. We did get 30% off our bill! The server was friendly, patient, polite, and very warm. The dishes were reasonably priced. We had a wonderful dining experience at this place. Highly recommended if you visit the area.
