It was Preacher's Patisserie, which means I'm having dessert before lunch because I'm not passing up a local bakery that sells Cherry Bakewell. This one was triangular shaped, a bit dense, & not as jammy as I like, but the almond & cherry flavors came through nicely. I regret not picking up another pastry or two & that I can only judge them based on one item that wasn't spectacular. Still, glad I gave 'em a go! Sidenote: I could've save my Cherry Bakewell for *after* I ate lunch, but where's the fun in that?

We ordered an iced latte, a black coffee, an espresso walnut brownie, and the chai glazed cardamom bun. The staff was nice and gave us a few recommendations, which were super helpful since it was our first time there. The café itself is pretty small, with limited indoor seating and a few tables outside. There was an organized queue to get in and order, but it moved pretty quickly, so the wait wasn't bad at all. Everything was good, but I can't say it was the best coffee or pastries I've ever had. Maybe my expectations were just too high because of all the hype, but I was definitely expecting a little more.

I adored the lime, poppyseed, and blueberry roulade! It was gone before the soup and toastie sandwich arrived. Crispy on the outside and so very soft and tasty on the inside. The cookie pie was impressive, but I honestly liked the roulade so much better. The soup today was broccoli and it was delicious! I had a ham and cheese sandwich lightly grilled in a panini press. Mom had a chorizo sandwich. The ladies at the bakery were lovely! Friendly happy folk always make food taste better! The bakery was quiet and not busy at 12:30 pm. It wasn't empty, just not busy. We got a table for 3! It was funny (and also a sad commentary on humans) that the still water available said "Please turn the tap off." Silly people. Thank you so much for a wonderful lunch! Mom said very good! Very different!

They don't always have huge quantities so if it's late in the day it might be slim pickings, but it's worth a check if your passing by. It's also a nice little cafe selling soups/salads/sandwiches and cakes. I've only ever had their bread but I'd consider it for a bite to eat if I was in the area. It doesn't take card unfortunately which is a shame as I rarely have cash. It's not the cheapest loaf but it seems in line with most artisanal bakeries. I think it's worth it and any time I've gotten bread here it has been rather quickly polished off.

The twice-baking meant it wasn't as airy/flaky as once-baked croissant, but that is easily overlooked since the blackcurrant makes up for it. Frangipane Bar: A really great take on a dessert bar. Perfect if you love marzipan, but don't want to eat one of those weird brightly shaped candies. I liked this so much, I'm gonna look up how to make this at home.

The pies are made fresh daily and displayed in the glass case at the counter along with other British style fried foods such as Tattie Dogs, Sausage Rolls, etc. There are a variety of the infamous pies offered. We tried a Steak and Ale pie and an Original Scotch Pie with brown sauce packet for the pour over. I enjoyed mine (Scotch Pie) and could've eaten a couple more God willing. Along with an Irn Bru, this was a satisfying and affodable meal. Definitely give this place a try when in the area.
