I never post reviews. My recent experience at this business however forces me to write one. The short version is this - if you will be satisfied with mediocre work, uneven, crooked stitching, and refusal by the owner to correct these mistakes if you notice them, then you might well be happy with the work at La'Ber. Otherwise, there are better options for tailoring in Bergen county. I work in an office with a casual dress code. I wear a lot of polo shirts. Due to positive reviews, I came here to have a polo shirt shortened. I picked up my alteration one morning before work. I did not have time to inspect my shirt too closely at the time of pick-up. It was only when getting said shirt home that I realized the stitching was quite crooked. I took it back to La'Ber, explaining that though I have been happy with their tailoring in the past, this time around I was unsatisfied. I was told to leave my shirt. The shirt was to be restitched, available for pick up the following day. I picked up my shirt. I have examined it closely. There was NOTHING done to it. I was told, of course, that the shirt was restitched, but this was a lie. The crooked stitching remains the same, askew in the same exact places as before, with no evidence of the loose bits of thread customary when a stitch is taken apart and resewn. To make matters worse, there are ink stains (on a white shirt), which I spotted while in the store. Now, the seamstress did try to remove it (ineffectually) using some "Shout". She did say sorry for storing my shirt carelessly next to some pens by the cash register. The people at La'Ber may seem like accommodating, friendly people. Don't be fooled. Bottom line is this: I already paid them. If I am unsatisfied, that is no longer their concern. So long as they already have your money, they will not care about your satisfaction, and will disdain standing behind their work by correcting a mistake. They are, in fact, unashamed to lie to you, insomuch as this spares them extra work for which they do not expect more payment. There are too many tailors, more honest and more competent in our area, for me to deal with this business again. read more

Watch your kids here!! I brought a couple of jeans here to be hemmed. I set my 2 year old daughter in the chair in the lobby and gave the lady behind the counter my jeans. When I glance back at my daughter she is playing with razor blade!!! They have loose razor blades laying around! The people working there were nice and got the first aid kit out to to help me bandage my daughters cuts (which were thankfully minor). Still is seems pretty dangerous to leave razor blades laying around. This could have turned out VERY badly! As for the jeans the lady talked me out of keeping the original hem. She said she has the same thread and could do the same stitch, etc. I'm not happy with how they turned out at all. I wish I would have gone somewhere else, kept the original hem, and not let my daughters hands get cut up!! read more

They agreed to patch both elbows of my favorite jacket. They were small holes, not a lot of work. They only fixed one side and then tried to give it back. I asked her to please fix the other side as initially agreed upon, and she reluctantly took it back to complete the job. She patched the second side in an entirely different manner than the first side, and now my jacket is a mismatched mess. This cost $45. *sigh* read more

After reading reviews here I decided to take my wedding dress for alterations. My dress was quite simple, and needed very little tailored. La Ber did a fine job shortening it, but was a complete disaster for the additional minor alterations that were needed. It was a halter cut and the neck had to be tightened. I had to go back FOUR times to get the neck length right, and once that was done, the back had to be taken in just the smallest amount. The woman refused, her store was getting full with other dresses and she didn't have time to finish my dress. Because of the way the dress hung, there were gaps at the side that left me with a bit too much showing. I was VERY uncomfortable with how it fit, and she just kept saying "I think it looks ok." She tried to give it back to me with a stain on the front and frayed fabric on the neckline, so I asked her to at least fix that up before I took the dress. I then returned to pick up my half-way altered dress later that week, and she had stuffed it with cardboard-like paper, and hung it on a large cardboard hanger. There was no garment bag, nothing to properly care for the fabric - not even the bag in which I originally brought it! And she tried to charge me full price - when I reminded her she wouldn't even finish the dress, she discounted $25. I took the dress elsewhere and my new tailor immediately commented on the cardboard hanger and stuffing, and informed me that they stretched out the fabric and there was no way to fix it. she also said because the dress was so simple and the alterations were so easy, that La Ber should have charged half of what it did, and they clearly just jacked the price because the dress was white. Overall I was incredibly disappointed with this experience. La Ber was not at all professional, even the way they handled the dress and the lack of garment bags shows this place isn't fit to do wedding alterations. Planning a wedding is stressful, dealing with tailors screwing up your dress down to 3 weeks before the wedding is an added stress I don't wish on anyone. I'd recommend steering clear. read more

We had previously taken the suit to another cleaner/alteration place but the guy there told my fiancee that they could not take out her jacket because there wasn't enough fabric. I didn't believe that. So I found La'Ber and we went there. For all of these dresses she did alterations, made jackets and for the mother of the bride dress she did A LOT of work on it by basically taking it apart and putting it back together to fit my mother to a tee. Her prices were extremely fair and she is super nice and helpful. I really do not have anything negative to say about this experience. Additionally, Kiymet went out of her way to set my husband and his groomsmen up with tuxes!
