We met Victor and ended up eating at Bogetta. The brunch was amazing, and Victor was the best server ever. He made our experience a complete 100%. The dates stuffed with sausage were wrapped in bacon and provided the perfect sweet and unexpected savory. We loved it! Hubby ordered the lemon pancakes. Amazing!!! The lemon zest was infused into the light and fluffy pancakes, set off by the light and refreshing lemon cream that was on top of the pancake. The edible fresh flowers and strawberries were a delightful and unexpected touch. I had the huveas sol and wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! The avocados were fresh and tender. The vegetable puree was a wonderful explosion of flavor in my mouth when combined with the perfectly cook sunny side up eggs. Everything we ate was a win! I hope to come back before we head back to California. Today is day one, and it has exceeded our expectations thus far.

The Oysters were fresh, and very reasonably priced. The Tomate and Avocado Salad (not pictured) was also fresh and light- it was my second choice bc they didn't have the Beets & Goat Cheese Salad. I tried the Bolognese and thought it was a bit boring. The drinks were boozy, but I did find the Paloma too sweet/tart. Overall, it was a great time- nice outdoor space. The service was attentive and friendly.

PHENOMENAL This is…read morenot just a restaurant, this is a dining experience. This is upscale elegance in a relaxed environment. This is global techniques blended with locally sourced Puerto Rican ingredients. From the moment you walk in, you feel welcome. I was there to celebrate my birthday (a reservation is a must). I asked if I could be seated in a different section of the restaurant, and even though they were packed, they said absolutely and found me a lovely seat in the bar area. The staff is knowledgeable and attentive. I suffer from severe food allergies but wanted to experience their tasting menu. My server spoke to the chef directly and then took the time to walk me through every option. I TRULY appreciated that they did not take anything off the menu but rather told me how they could adjust for my allergies. That is very rare and so very much appreciated that they went that extra mile for me. I highly recommend the tasting menu. It's 5 courses and they give you 3 options to choose from, within each course. And for the price ($85), a great value. Everything was delicious but I highly recommend the Breadfruit Gnocchi, Rainbow Runner Crudo, and Criollo Duck Mofongo. Chefs kiss! What I also noticed was, even though they were insanely busy, they didn't make you feel rushed. The invited you to savor the experience - which I did. Next time you are in San Juan, make a reservation and go. You won't be disappointed!

Everything else was very well done. The two of us split one order of the five-course tasting menu plus an additional starter, and it ended up being a nice light meal. Had we each ordered our own tasting menu, it would have been far more food than we wanted...something we found to be a fairly common theme with portion sizes throughout Puerto Rico. The standout of the evening was the Criollo Duck Mofongo, which was absolutely exquisite and easily the best mofongo we had on our trip by far. The cocktails were tasty and unique, but a bit small for the price. This definitely isn't an every-night kind of restaurant...the prices are on the higher side. But if you're looking to splurge a little, it's a fun place to do it.

For the sake of this review it important to know that I along…read morewith one of my other friends are two light skinned black women but the rest of our friend group are darker skinned black women. At first, the food was pretty okay. I got waited on and served relatively quickly. However, my darker skinned friends had to wait a longer time not just to order, but also to get their food. One of my darker skinned friends ordered three empanadas and only received two. When she tried to speak to one of the servers about getting her third empanada they refused. She said she was willing to pay for it, but they refused to serve her what she asked. Then, they said there's always a problem with "you people". Then all of a sudden they lied and said she was trying to scam them. As we're walking out, they start cursing at us and saying things like " I hope everyone except you (referring to my darker skinned friend) has a good day". The servers were overall very disrespectful, they cursed, and they were overly unprofessional. So even though the food was okay this was a horrible experience. As we were leaving, we saw two other darker skinned black women walk up to try and order. We told them about our experience and the servers started lying and saying that we are there every day and always causing problems. This was also untrue. That was the first time we've ever been to this restaurant. We walked a block down the street to wait for our car service. Then moments later, we bumped into the same dark skinned black women we saw earlier and they told us that their presence wasn't even acknowledged. So like I said even though the food was pretty okay. It wasn't good enough to be okay with the blatant colorism where it wasn't expected.

Torres' place has that "beach…read moreshack" vibe that makes you want an ice cold beer and a tostone after lounging in the sun or hitting the waves. It's a teeny spot with only about 10 seats, so you may have to wait. We were lucky to go on a cloudy day and snagged a little table. Chicken wings, pulled pork tacos, and the pork stuffed tostones are all yummy. There's an herby green sauce on them that is out of this world. Fresh and bright. Mojito was good, I'd steer clear of the margarita (seems like a mix is used). The OceanLab IPA was local and yummy.
