I spent over $41 there yesterday. The quiche was cold in the middle so I ate around it. Plus it had a terrible smell. The blueberry scone I took home and heated. It was dry and stale. The box of meringues I also took home. I was excited to enjoy these. The entire box was stale! These are supposed to be to be luscious and chewy. The minute I bit into then they crumbled and broke all over the counter. Not chewy. Stale. What a waste of money. The cappuccino was 5/10 because it wasn't hot enough. Stopped in for a vanilla latte and blueberry cream cheese danish. It was Saturday at 10:30 so I was expecting it to be busy but there were only two couples. The service was very efficient, I got my latte and pastry in less than 2 minutes. The pastry was good but not outstanding, I will return for the coffee and convenience and probably keep searching for more perfect pastries elsewhere. Not cheap but I expected it to be more expensive than it was. Good amount of seating and even a little baby high chair if needed! Lids are accessible in two different locations. Came here on a Thursday morning and it was pretty busy. They have a lot of seating. They offer free Wi-Fi so it's a nice environment to work in. They have some electrical plugs as well. They were busy so some tables were not cleaned off right away. I ordered a hot mocha which was delicious. I'd definitely come back to try the pastries and quiche. This is a cafe that I walked by and finally had the opportunity to try. I was craving for almond croissant and decided to pick it up from here. When I went, there was only one person ahead of me with one staff at the cafe. The atmosphere was very nice and welcoming with their display case stocked and the lady who appears to be the only person working that day was very friendly. Aside from pastries and mini cakes, they also served soup, sandwiches and quiches. I'm definitely interested in their quiche and will be back to try them! read more

I've been there a number of times, and enjoyed the good food and laid back atmosphere,so I asked my friend to join me there for lunch today. I ordered the potato and leek soup and asked for bread and butter with it, which I fully expected to pay extra for. The two people at the counter looked perplexed at my request and said that would not be possible. So I got the soup and sandwich " deal" The soup was like green water. Hard to believe any potato was involved in its preparation. With a mocha it came to 26 dollars and change. The table was in front of a chipped orange wall at the back. I've popped in on other occasions and had a beverage but somehow managed to never sample a bite of their wares. Anyway, I decided to go with their Ham & Swiss Croissant. I was asked if I wanted it heated up, which is just weird. You made this thing; I want the sandwich the way you think it should be consumed! I went with hot, which didn't really do it any favors. The 'wich tasted like something I could've made myself and just thrown in the microwave. I mean, I ate the whole thing but when I'm paying a premium price, I do expect something that tastes fresh. We also got a hot chocolate, and aside from the fact that it barely qualified as warm, it's definitely a quality drink. Stumbled upon this cafe while walking by and decided to have some tea and coffee. It was cozy inside and we decided to order tea and coffee. We got one large drip coffee and a regular earl grey with steamed milk. The food didn't look appetizing and way over priced so decided to skip. The coffee tasted too bitter even with 3 teaspoons of sugar and cream. The tea was good, no complaints. We sat near the back and the walls were very dirty and needed a good slab of paint on them. I tried this place for lunch to go on a Friday as I was craving Quiche on the day. I ordered two slices of Quiches (Quiche Lauren and Spinach one) and two lattes. Slices of the quiches were very generous (1/4 of a whole quiche) and both tasted rich and delicious! I paid only 27 dollars for the order which I found quite reasonable in the neighborhood. La Boheme Croissant is so devilish good! So Fluffy! So Light! So Buttery! This is one of the pastries I don't really want to share with anyone. But my friend was looking at my chocolate croissant with hunger eyes after he wolfed down his plain croissant in 1 minute record time! The Caffe Latte I have is so cute with the heart shaped latte art made by the nice/friendly barista. The heart stayed impact until I finshed my whole coffee :) The roast is from Te Aro, so the roast is a little stronger.. but that's the way I like mine! The interior is nice and bright. I do wish that there are some armchairs or sofa sitting. That for sure will be a relaxing place to hang out with your friends and talk about nonsense on a Sunday afternoon! This cafe continues to have friendly staff and good coffee. Their savory and sweet items are almost all stale stale stale! On several occasions I've gotten stale macaroons, tarts, cakes, croissants etc. This stuff is overpriced too and not worth it. Come here for the coffee, but don't come here to eat. read more

It was a holiday weekend and I bought an almond chocolate croissant for to-go. They only had 2 left and I specifically asked if they are fresh and made today (sice it was a holiday) and they told me that they are fresh. After reading several reviews for breakfast places in the area, I decided to give La Boheme a try. I really wanted some eggs and a traditional breakfast, however this is not the place for that. They have a selection of quiches and pastries and specialty coffees, however I don't get the impressions the pastries are baked at that location. I had the Quiche Larraine which was OK and the apple tart which didn't taste very fresh. I didn't experience poor service as the young girl that served me was very pleasant, however it did take a while to get a latte and the quiche warmed up. While I was there many people walked in with a specific takeout purchase they had in mind. I'm not sure what those items could have been. Perhaps the overall experience is better in the summer on the patio that many reviewers mentioned. The seating inside is also a little strange and not that warm and inviting. I would also expect a place like this to have the sweet smell of baking in the air, but that was not the case. Hence the reason why I think they import the goods they sell. Yes it's nice having an independent in the area filled with Starbucks, but unfortunately in this case, I think they have a long way to go to get up to Starbucks quality and cleanliness standards. read more

Still 2 stars. I would only come back because of the beautiful and quiet backyard patio and reliable WiFi. But be warned, best to just stick to really basic things (e.g. tea - can't be screwed up). Their iced latte was really watery and they didn't have any simple syrup to use as sweetener. I tried one of their vegetable sandwiches and it was overpriced and completely bland. A few sad vegetables on bread that was slathered with mayo. Bleh. Service is ok, lacking in friendliness or enthusiasm but competent. Oh, and they are really generous with their 'special deals' -- "like" them or check-in on facebook and get a whooping 10% off (only weekdays before 10am). Wow. If you want better quality drinks and snacks, head up a few doors north to De Mello or south to Zaza. Both are better options (but don't have patios, sadly). read more

So glad this is here. Not that it is far, but unless you want to walk to Mount Pleasant, there aren't many (any?) decent independent cafes in the Yonge-Eglinton area. Had a Croque Monsieur, cappuccino, and a pain au chocolate. All were good. A bit of an expensive lunch at $14, considering I'll probably need a snack in a couple hours, but this is the kind of place you go to for a treat. I'm not sure why but they don't have a menu posted, other than for their coffee beverages, so if you are not a regular there, you have to look in the display case and try to figure out what everything is, and order my pointing. Prices are also not posted. As a side note, and this has nothing to do with the business itself, but why do people have to go to these otherwise peaceful places and carry on their BS conversation at a decibel level that ensures it is broadcast to the entire establishment? It is pretty bad when the 10 year old sitting next to me looks at his mom and says "Those men are soooo loud!" My lemon tart was lovely- slightly sweet, tart, very creamy, good crust albeit a little hard . But at $5.25, i thought it was a little steep. The ultra delish Mixed Nuts Euro Mini Pie (longest name ever) @ Dufflet is only $3.75 or so. And the crust on that pie is better... Fantastic coffee, and bakery goodies from Jules on Mt. Pleasant which is easily one of the top bakeries in the city, makes this place my regular on weekend mornings. Beware one bad thing about this place though - on Sunday mornings, yupsters from the neighbourhood bring their little 2 and 3 year old's and they run around screaming bloody mayhem, ruining a nice time reading the paper and enjoying the amazing coffee. I've discovered this place when they just opened thanks to the spa manager upstairs! And from the opening til' now they've grown pretty big but haven't change their friendly and positive attitude ! Everything here is just like home, in Paris. Every single viennoiserie (pains au chocolat, croissants, brioches etc) is just perfect ! The croque-monsieur and ham & cheese croissant are as good as the one you get in the finest bakery of Paris. And the dessert..... DE-LI-CIOUS ! Well the chef is from France ! As for the coffees... well I used to go there with my father who's intransigent when it comes to espressos and he loves the one of La Boheme ! Lattes and cappuccino and chocolat chaud are also really nice. The decor is contemporary, chic and warm. This a great place to either come with you family, your BFF after a shopping day or your books and computer to do your homework. La Boheme is owned by a very sweet & knowledgeable Iranian family and the manager,Peggy is extremely nice and professional. The staff in general know the products pretty well and is thoughtful. The only thing that bothers me, is the fact that moms love that place a a play date place, so their kids could play and eat some nice sandwiches, while they'll gossip and drink some good coffee. What can I do, kids are noisy, and you don't always want to hear them scream. The good part, is that it happened to me about 3 time out of the dozens I've been there, I guess it's a certain time and day that I haven't found out yet. Latte was pretty good. They use Te Aro coffee. The ham and cheese croissant was tasty. Seems like a good croissant base. A latte and ham and cheese croissant came in at $9. Yikes... A bit steep for what it is.. They have free wifi. The seating isn't very comfortable. All of their baked goods are wrapped in cellophane. I wanted a cookie but they only had small little cookies sold in bags of several cookies. The basement, where the bathroom is located, looks like it's falling apart... If you can avoid going to the bathroom, that'd be better. I wish I came a bit earlier when they still had sandwiches and other things. The croissants look good but I didn't try them. I wish they had individual cookies. Overall, a decent spot. I'd go here again because it's nearby but if I have more time I'd travel to a different coffee shop. read more

Maybe I went there with higher expectations, but I was so disappointed. There's not a big selection of drinks and that wouldn't be so bad if their coffee was actually good, but it wasn't. Service was just average - staff was polite and that's about it all. What made it worse was how they decided to clean the place when everybody was still there. I've worked in retail before and that's not something you should do. They couldn't just wait till everybody leaves?!? I don't like my drinks with extra dust so I'm not going there again. Glorious croissants! This charming cafe near Eglington has a little bit everything from quiche to salads, sandwiches to cakes and cookies, but their croissants are UNFORGETTABLE....so buttery and rich, yet so light, it's not hard to demolish more than one in one sitting. Walked along Yonge last week and this cute little bakery caught my eye so I decided to buy some macarons. I bought 6 for $15. They don't have signs for the flavours of the macarons so I had to ask the server a couple times, which is bothersome and confusing. The macarons themselves were stale and I could only taste the distinct flavours in some of them: mango, coffee and pistachio (which are purple?). The centers were hollow and so I just got crunchy butter cream. I definitely won't be coming back. read more

La Boheme gets an extra point for having the most serene hidden back-patio in the area! The zen open space area provided the perfect atmosphere for a catch up session with an old friend. On this trip we tried the apricot danish and the almond pain au chocolat. Both were good, and there were no complaints about the hot beverages either (standard iced coffee and rooibos tea). Overall La Boheme would be able to dominate were it not situated right in the middle of an area boasting the most impressive lineup of patisseries Toronto has to offer. Only had their tea and sweet stuff. Didn't get to try any of their savory items. Presentation wise, all the sweets looked amazing and it was hard to choose at first but I went with my all-time favorite, lemon meringue tart and an earl grey tea. My friends ordered strawberry cheesecake, lavender macaron and white chocolate mousse cake. The first lady who tried to assist us didn't really know the products well. She told us the cheesecake wasn't cheesecake but it was. Another lady ended up assisting us instead. I have to say there is a bit too much hype for this space. I was underwhelmed by everything. Everything tasted just okay. I was not impressed with the tea bag holding the loose leaf tea. The bag gets soaked and drips off the side of the cup and all over the saucer and table. Another thing that definitely turns me off is seeing the insect/critter trapper in the bathroom. Glad I went at the end and not the beginning. I come here to work on a semi-regular basis. But despite my regular visits I'm still not sold on it. Don't get me wrong! The baristas are friendly and the coffee always perfectly good. But the sandwiches are 'meh' at absolute best. And the ambiance almost feels too minimalist. Adding to this, the wifi is sometimes good but sometimes dreadfully slow. As someone who will work out of cafes and depends on internet connectivity I come with a smartphone and data plan for when I run into bad wifi, but I rely on that backup far too often when I visit here. read more

I ordered the croque Monsieur but it tasted more like a croque mon- suck. There was this weird mayonnaise slathered all over the sandwich that completely obliterated the taste of the cheese. The ham tasted half assed as well. Let's just say that it took longer for the sandwich to come than it did for me to eat it. It's not the most spacious but I went on a weekday afternoon and had no problem finding a spot. Latte was good, about $4 after taxes for a small. They brew Te-Aro which is nice because I really like the strong taste of their beans. They also offer baguettes, croissants, pastries, and some hot items like quiche and flat bread.
