La Botana still has it we love coming here, our normal is a steak burrito and a chicken burrito when we are relly hungry I order queso and chips, I do love the nachos but I ask for queso it is an additional charge but I don't care. Service is always great greeted when you walk in most of the time it is sit where you want unless it's busy, ambiance is the same as always but I love they have TVs on different channels to watch games, always clean. My youngest is on a salad kick. I brought her the salmon salad to eat after her shift one night and it quickly became a favorite. I've only ever had one disappointment here. This was my first time to eat at La Botana. I'm a native Texan who has transplanted to Colorado and I'll be back! The service was amazing! We arrived mid-afternoon and were promptly seated. They didn't rush my friend and I in order to take our order - we had a lot to catch up on and talked a lot! We each had special requests and the server brought everything exactly as we had requested. He was attentive without being intrusive and kept our drinks filled. We lingered for quite a while after we finished eating and were not pressured to leave in a hurry. That's just the service! The food was delicious, too! I had a seafood dish - something that is not easily found in Mexican restaurants down in Douglas County! But, La Botana had quite a few options with seafood (and my friend, who had been here many times before clued me in that they were known for great seafood dishes!). The restaurant was clean, the parking was easy, and the food and service were great! It took me an hour and half to get there and even longer to get back down to Castle Rock and like I said . . . Really enjoyed our meal here. We had the steak fajitas and the chicken mole, and both were excellent. I thought the mole was better, my husband preferred the fajitas. I think it was one of the first times we have disagreed! The fajitas were pretty standard to me, but I thought the mole really bloomed the more I ate it. Lots of great flavor. The cheese in my Chile Relleno was SPOILED!!! I could taste it right away and had to spit it out. They took my plate and asked if I would like to try anything else. So I tried some pork dish which was pretty good. Then when the bill came, they charged me for the pork dish which was more expensive than what I originally ordered. So not only did I eat rotten cheese, I got charged for an entree that I didn't even originally want. At least charge me for what I originally ordered, not the more expensive plate that I didn't want. Me and my wife just happened to drive by while looking for somewhere to stop and eat. We saw this restaurant and decided to give it a shot! I couldn't have been more impressed! The best chips I've ever had! So crispy and thin! And both the green and red salsas were delicious. The shredded beef was extremely flavorful...everything came out hot, staff was friendly and efficient and the place was so clean. It's a 40 minute drive here from our house and I would drive to come back! read more

He brings me the red salsa which was nice and spicy and takes our bill, only to charge me $2.50 for a teeny tiny container of red chili which he didn't bother to tell me there was going to be an extra charge for. This used to be one of our favorite places for breakfast and lunch. We had dinner here and it was a horrible experience. The queso was as runny as water, we had to wait a very long time for food and the restaurant only had a few patrons in there, we ordered steak and pork fajitas which came to us all burnt, there was a very long hair that was cooked into one of the pieces of pork and they only gave us two tortillas. When I said something to the waitress she just took the food away and didn't say anything. When I mention something to the manager, because this is one of our favorite places to eat and we never had a bad meal here He just said well thanks for letting me know. This place was horrible! I can't even begin to describe how disgusting this food was! If you enjoy a pound of salt in your food this is the place for you! The shrimp in the ceviche was not cooked, guacamole was salty and not fresh, carnitas was dry and very salty, menudo smelt so bad it was definitely spoiled, Steak was chewy and tasted spoiled, and bean and beef burrito had no beef! On the menu it never said anything about fake crab. It was misrepresented as real crab. I should've known better. Yuk. The garlic shrimp was good tasting, but once again overpriced for the quantity you get. The kids meals are overpriced for what you get. $6 for less than a half cup of beans and one taco is a little silly. An iced tea is $3. Wtf? Way overpriced for some crappy instant tea. They charge you $1 for an extra basket of chips. Tacky. I don't know of any other Mexican restaurant that I've ever been to, anywhere, that does that. And it wasn't like she informed us either. She just nonchalantly came by and said would you like some more chips? We said yes. And there they were on the bill, $1, like a kick in the nuts. Pros: Good service. When we moved up to the neighborhood we tried a few spots around here, and when we came to Botana, we stopped trying because we didn't need to go anywhere else. File under: Be brave and be rewarded. One thing that we Northsiders are lucky to have is no shortage of good authentic Mexican food joints, especially along Washington in Thornton. A while back, we were cruising for a new place to try, and I suggested La Botana, as we'd driven by it many times, and it usually looked pretty bumpin'. So the first time we went, we parked, walked inside, and were immediately accosted by blaring Mexican hip hop from the juke. As we stood by the door, scanning the crowd of non-gringo faces, it felt like a scene out of a movie where everyone stops their conversation, and turns to glare at the strangers that dare enter their private sanctuary. I'm no stranger to down-and-dirty taco shacks, but I gotta tell you, I felt a bit intimidated. But as soon as we were seated, all that changed, and I realized that it was all in my head. While the clientele may look a bit tough, everyone was supremely cool, from the English-speaking servers that made sure we were comfortable and taken care of throughout our meal, to the hungover old guys hunched at the center bar, taking time from their micheladas to give me a "'Sup" nod as I walked to the restroom. And the food's good, too! The first time I went, I tried the Mexican shrimp cocktail. Not as plentiful with the shrimp as some other places I've tried, but the Clamato-based sauce was tasty, and there were plenty of jalapeno bits floating around, negating any need to add extra hot sauce. I also tried one of their pupusas, and while good, wasn't particularly memorable. The last time I went, I tried a torta de lomo enchilada (a sandwich with a breaded pork cutlet smothered in a slightly-spicy chili paste) and a side of beans, all solid. The menu is expansive and diverse, containing not only a wealth of seafood dishes, but also a number of items geared towards the less adventurous palate (boxed taco shell with ground beef? Check!) But as always, I encourage you to challenge yourself, both with food and preconceptions. You just never know when you'll be surprised... or surprise yourself. Cheers! read more
