Traveling throughout Italy the past three weeks, this is the best craft beer tap house we have found. There's a nice selection of different styles of beer from hoppy IPA's, Belgians, sours and Stouts on draft. We found several interesting bottles and cans to take away to stock our hotel refrigerator. Okay, this is a bar known for its American tourists and students. But maybe, just maybe, it's an excellent bar. Hear me out. Fantastic beer selection, excellent prices, cool decorations, fun clientele: all elements of a four-star bar. But you see the glowing red five stars there. That critical final mark of excellence is directly attributed to the owner/bartender. Consider this: we attempted ordered Anchor Steam. However, recognizing us as American tourists who clearly enjoy beer, the owner instead suggested we try a local craft brew--which we didn't find anywhere else. We ended up having four different Italian brews, of which ReAle was our unanimous favorite. Where else would a bartender take an active interest in his customers' exploration and enjoyment of his bar. Westvleteren XII, widely considered to be the best beer in the world, can be purchased here for the truly bargain price of 15 Euros. Illegally sold, it is, but the Trappist Monks should appreciate that, unlike many other illegal vendors which charge anywhere from 20 Euros in Belgium to 40 Pounds in the UK, Boticella is fair and honest. Other Belgian selections include the Westvleteren's contemporaries, such as St. Bernardus 12 and Rochefort 10. LaChouffe, McChouffe, and others. This place is special, and while not authentically Italian, probably the most genuine place you will find in Rome. read more

Well not impressed but I'm not a Penn St grad or Steeler fan so that may taint someone's perspective. That being said, the place is small but good dive bar for a drink. Festive atmosphere. Prices for drinks OK. Owner was very friendly. A good place to get a quick drink. Great location near Plaza Narvonna. Now the cons IMO. If you are looking for a sports bar look elsewhere. There are no actual TVs nor real TV feeds. What you get is a pull down projection screen with a video feed from a lap top so it wasn't the clearest nor best feed. We were clued in by some other people there that there was a real sports bar nearby. Maybe 3 minute walk. Called Abbey Theater. Walked over there. Many nice flat screen TVs and real feeds via ESPN etc. Great place. Finally while I hope this isn't normal but the bathroom was overflowing which is gross. Only 1 unisex bathroom. read more

Great neighborhood pub/bar! Giovanni was very kind to us from the moment we walked in and even sat down with us at our table and held a conversation with us. This bar is a great spot for an American who is visiting and wants to find a place to watch Sunday NFL Football. Giovanni put red zone on the tv and we hung here as if it was a Sunday afternoon back home. It is also the official Pittsburgh Steelers bar in Italy. Great pub in the middle of a very busy part of Rome. Not only did we step into a little reminder of Pittsburgh, but we also saw a family from our own church back home! They have a great pub menu, good selection of beers, and it really is a Steelers bar (not just a local bar with a couple jerseys or towels). TL;DR - Good American bar located in downtown Rome. If you find yourself in Italy and homesick or have ever wondered what it is like to be in a bar in Pittsburgh you can find out by going to this bar which happens to be in Rome. I guess I am that guy, making my girlfriend go to a Steeler's Bar while we were on our romantic trip in Rome for her birthday. To be fair we found this place by accident while walking down the street it is on. Looking for a place to grab a late night drink, my girlfriend and I arrived around midnight as the night life was dying down. There were about 10 people still drinking, all cramped into the area around the bar. I can only imagine how busy it gets during peak hours. La Botticella is, honestly, as typical of Steelers bar that you can find outside of Pittsburgh. It just happens to be cramped in to a small bar space in Rome. Like every thing it Europe, it is smaller than what we are used to in the United States. It has a small bar-top, a small seating area, and a small outdoor area. Even if you are not from Pittsburgh, but are an American looking for a slice of home, or simply someone from one of the other 194 (as of the date of this review) wondering what an American bar kinda looks like, check this place out. If you hate the Steelers, Pens, Yinzer, Primanti Brothers, and everything else about the Steel City maybe this isn't for you. So why four stars? Coming from an American with ties to Pittsburgh this was a great little bar to drink at. I hate to sound like a dumb American but after spending a week in a foreign country it was great place to stop and relax. The owner and staff know who they are catering to, everyone speaks perfect English and we saw no signs of annoyance at the patron's (including mine) American ignorance and noisy mannerisms that often gets us in trouble outside of the States. On top of that its an American sports bar! If there is a big game on, chances are its being shown here. After a long day of being a tourist, it was great to go in and get to reset my travel fatigue. Unfortunately the bar does have a few issues to stop it from getting that illusive 5th star. As some other reviewers have pointed out it doesn't have any TVs, just one big screen projector. It is pointed towards the far wall in the back of the bar. This is nice as it allows you to view it even when outside the bar but unfortunately this means you always have to be facing the back of the bar to see what is on. A TV or two over the bar would help out a bit to allow you to watch the game while facing your friends and talking. Second problem, and this will probably out me to the owner, while this is a full bar, they don't seem to have a "full bar". For example they do not have any cream or milk. Not that they were out of it, they just don't have it. Unfortunately that prevented us from ordering our drink of choice of the evening, a White Russian. I am not sure what else they do not stock but if you stick to their beer selection you will be fine. The final con for this location is what makes it the most authentic, the staff are so busy talking to guests about Pittsburgh sports that it can be hard to get a drink. Overall four stars for being a little slice of home for us Americans while out on vacation. read more

This is the place to be for a great time drinking and having fun in Rome. The owner Giovanni is a true Roman but has the added advantage of having spent a lot of his youth living in Canada so speaks fluent English with a Canadian accent. This place has excellent wines, liquors and lots of fresh (and I mean fresh)fruit cocktails. Giovanni makes a mean mojito. The bar is cosy but has a good few tables outside to sit and watch the world go by. This place is just off of Piazza Navona so you are right in the centre of the centre. Giovanni is a great networker and will introduce you to people and help you out with all kinds of insider knowledge. Best places to eat, good holiday spots near to Rome, the best clubs to go tothe list is endless. Nibbles such as pizza bites (from Giovanni's sister's pizza place a few doors up - yum) and monkey nuts are often provided free for customers who drink a lot like me. A really fun bar for an American who's lived in Pittsburgh to find! Owned by a huge Steelers fan, the bar is loaded with memorabilia. It's very tourist-friendly (English speaking owner, free-wifi and phone chargers), but it has lots of great beers if you're tired of having vino della casa everywhere you go.
