Amazing pastries and coffee felt like Paris! Try the B Chocolate 3 in the croissant area (cant remember the name) our hotel sent us here and they have have a pastry/ coffee shop in house! Its a nice hotel too! Definitely worth every bite! Merci Beu Coup!

Wow, amazing. We got the Dulce de Leche Cruffin and chocolate brioche and the were both very good. The bread was soft and perfect. Not too sweet.

They have many vegetarian options for breakfast. The 4 of us split a vegetable quiche. It was delicious, fresh, and flaky crust. We also had a drip coffee and cafe latte. All were prepared quickly. There was a line in the morning but they are very efficient. Service was very friendly. Ordering in English instead of my minimal French was easily understood. I would go here every day if I lived here!

Upper, chocolate brioche, left, apple turnover, right praline spiral.

We were looking for a bakery on a Sunday morning to enjoy with our coffee. This bakery was a few blocks from our rental, was easy to access, and smelled delicious. Unfortunately, while the pastries were beautiful to look at, they were not very well baked. The chocolate brioche was very heavy - and I should have known it was because it wasn't fully cooked. It would have been wonderful if it had been cooked. The apple turnover was a bit underbaked, but only in the exact center so it was edible. The best items were the chocolatine (chocolate croissant) and the the praline spiral (shaped like an American cinnamon roll). Overall, not the best, but not the worst. Skip the brioche if you go. But the rest was okay.

I seriously do not know how people travel without Yelp. It was a quick search on Yelp for "bread" while in QC that lead me to this place. "Paillard" is probably the highest rated bakery in QC but I have a feeling that's partially because of it's location. It's on Rue Saint-Jean which is where the tourists congregate. When I saw that "La Boite a Pain" had only 15 reviews and was not located on Rue Saint-Jean, I was certain this meant that I had just stumbled upon a local gem and boy was I right! This place is definitely off the beaten path but a path worth taking. I somehow made it in right before the herd of lunchtime locals. I was attended by a very sweet girl studying to be an English teacher. I had a thousand questions about the sandwiches and needed help picking the best one. She was extremely helpful and patient with me. I asked for her vegetarian recommendation and she pointed me to a mushroom sandwich. Now, mushrooms do not typically pack much flavor but this sandwich was FULL of flavor! It was some sort of mushroom paste with veggies and the most amazing crunchy/chewy/soft bread a girl could ever imagine! Add a side pasta salad, a blood orange S. Pellegrino and some sudoku and lunch was served. I grabbed myself a window seat and for a moment I was convinced I was in a Parisian cafe. It was so good that I came back the next morning and had the whole experience again only this time I tried their salmon sandwich and I got myself some bowtie pasta from the local market.

Spinach and cheese croissant, a yummy chocolate spiral, and an apricot danish

A very cute cafe with a larger selection of sandwiches and savory items than baked sweets. We got an apricot danish, a huge chocolate roll, and a spinach and cheese croissant. All of them were delicious! The apricots were large and meaty to bite into. The spiral chocolate was sweet and flaky, and the croissant was super yummy too! I'd love to try the ham and cheese croissant next time too.

    Italian sandwich- delicious!!!

Italian sandwich and a pear with chocolate pastry - phenomenal!! Everything here seems to be made fresh and in store because the moment you walk in, you are welcomed with the most amazing smell of baked goods! The sandwich is a normal Italian sandwich which includes salami, ham, cheese, arugula and pesto - delicious because the meats are cured to perfection and so delicious. The sandwich maybe had three slices of meat which is very little in an American sandwich but you can tell the quality of meat is better and so less is more! The bread was fresh, crusty and warm!! So friggin good! The pear and chocolate pastry was to die for!! The whole thing number one looks like a work or art! Then when you bite into the sweet sweet pastry it is so good! The pear mixed with chocolate was also surprising delicious and perfectly sweet and acidic! Highly recommend for great price and delicious food!!!

Unfortunately this place would never survive in the USA. The reason it would never survive in the USA is because this place specializes in bread. Sure they sell other items but clearly bread is their main attraction. And Americans simply don't go out of their way just for bread. Americans are all about variety and conveinence. Places like Panera Bread survive in the USA because they serve other things like coffee, soups, and sandwiches. Sadly Panera bread would go out of business if they sold only bread. And that's a shame for us Americans. I observed in La Boîte à Pain the same exact thing I observed in Paris last year..... many customers walking in and buying bread and bread only. That's so cool. That's so anti-supermarket. That's dedication. A good meal deserves a nice "fresh" bread to accompany it. So I have lots of admiration for La Boîte à Pain and its customers. I didn't have a need to purchase a whole loaf but I did have a need to purchase a sandwich. So that's exactly what I did. Although my sandwich was premade it was very good and the bread was TERRIFIC. I only wish it had a little bit more meat (but perhaps that's the New Yorker in me wishing that). By the way, later on I visited Le Croquemouche, a French pastry shop, and I noticed they sell sandwiches too. Next time I'll have to try theirs and make a comparison. Le Croquemouche is located on the same side of Rue Saint-Joseph.

Excellent bakery which produces artisan-quality breads. Partially delicious is the ham and cheese croissant. And the chocolate for that matter; they really are quite loaded with butter, and the end result is exceptionally tasty and flaky. The baguettes are also first-rate; chewy but not overly so and tasty. They had three or four versions of baguettes but I stayed with the classic. Apparently this bakery supplies a lot of the area restaurants with bread. Very reasonably priced.

Best croissants we had in Quebec City. The plain croissant was great, but the chocolatine was also really good!

Bakery is so so. They do not take credit card and take American dollar 1-to-1. That is like 33% surcharge.

Their "real time "app indicated it was out for delivery after about 75 minutes, but then it seemed to be stuck about halfway through the delivery stage. When we called to inquire, the manager said they had only one delivery person and they were backlogged, but we would get our order soon. Shortly thereafter their "real time" app suddenly jumped all the way back to the beginning "preparation" stage, and then slowly once again moved through "cooking", "packaging", and then once out for "delivery". Not surprisingly, it again froze in the middle of the delivery stage and then, nearly 3 hours after we had placed our order, the app suddenly switched to a screen that said "tracking is no longer available". We never received a phone call or a follow up email with any explanation, other than a solicitation to complete a satisfaction survey, and we never got our order. But they did put through the charge on my credit card, which I'm going to contest tomorrow. Epic fail!
