Given the frigid temperatures, the temperature control in the room was spot on and calibrated nicely for my liking. The staff were friendly, checkin desk, valet, housekeeping, etc. I'd definitely be back again for sure.

It looks like a castle in the sky. It is an older hotel but is beautifully preserved. So much history there. The rooms can be a little small- specifically the bathrooms unless you upgrade. We booked a room on the Gold Floor and had a great room, very small bathroom. The cleaning service was inconsistent. We got mouthwash after 3 days but not to start. No slippers like typical Fairmonts. The Gold Floor lounge is nice. Definitely not our favorite gold level lounge but still nice. Limited healthy protein options at breakfast. Vincent was our absolute favorite. We made an attempt to sit in his section every morning. His bright spirit was the perfect way to start the day. The bar downstairs is beautiful. It has limited seating and lots of non-guests want to experience it. The cocktails are so good and service is great. We are headed back in the winter and are looking forward to seeing it during the holidays.

It did not disappoint. We got a room upgrade to a lovely view of the castle and it even had a balcony. The breakfast at Chez Muffy was exceptional...the first morning it was so good I deemed it the best breakfast of my life (over a 1/2 century of living too). The only minor complaint we had was that we arrived late and the bar was closed. We were a little hungry so the front desk receptionist offered us some snacks from the mini bar. We should have realized these snacks would be mini bar pricing even though he handed them to us from the reception desk. $26 of chips and pretzels showed up on the bill! Our mistake. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again though. The bed was comfortable. The shower great too. And the service was very friendly.

Check-in was easy, and I was delighted to discover I had been given an upgraded room without making any request or having any particular status. The room was twice as large as most hotel rooms I've stayed at, with delightful views, a large and very comfortable bed, a couch and desk, and a style that was elegant without being stuffy. My fellow travelers had a room that was even more phenomenal because of the view it had over the water and the cruise ships that were coming and going. Hotel staff were always helpful with suggestions for places to go or neighborhoods where we'd find a selection of restaurants to eat at. In the evenings there is a small and comfortable area to order drinks and to listen to the guitarist or to simply sit and watch the fireplace. Although it is a high priced hotel, I would absolutely return. Its location is perfect. Walkable throughout the old town area and to the port. This was my second time vacationing here and not once did anyone tell me to do this tour. I decided to book it for my sister's 40th bday as a fun activity to do for 3 hours during the day. I remember when I booked the tour, I looked at the website and thought to myself, this is either gonna be super lame or kind of cool but never did I expect it to blow my mind! Located about a 45 minute bus ride from Downtown QC - we did Unitours which pick you up outside the Frontenac. Easy to find them as their busses are labelled really well. They drive you directly to the hotel, and let you visit for 90 minutes. And that 90 minutes is perfect to see all of the Ice Hotel. There is SO much to look at. There's a cute little coffee shack outside the hotel as well if you want a bite/warm drink. The way the hotel is set up you go into the chapel to start (yes people get married here) and it's truly something else - so pretty and coooold! Definitely bundle up if you have plans to go to this hotel. There are phenomenal sculptures throughout the hotel, the bar was such a highlight too. The drinks are all served in ice blocks that are a fun experience - while they're expensive for a cocktail and very little mixology involved it was still worth it for me. After the bar, you check out all the rooms that people stay in and wow some are actually spectacular and made me want to stay overnight. The ice carvings are beautiful - my favorite room was the whimsical forest one. Just so cool! My second favorite was a wolf room with the northern lights. And how could I not mention the ice slide!! A slide inside the hotel that you can go down on your butt or if you want to go fast, on your feet! I had a blast going down the slide a couple times. This hotel is absolutely a unique experience and we loved our self-guided tour of it. Next time I'm in QC, I'd love to actually stay there and dine at the beautiful ice restaurant too! The Fairmont owns this property so you know it's gonna be a goody. I'm happy to report that we loved our stay here. Yes, the location is a twenty minute walk uphill to Old Town. But it's also an awesome area itself. There are restaurants/shops/bars/coffee shops all around this area. Did we love Old Town also? Absolutely. But we were so glad to have chosen this location so that we could enjoy this other area of the city as well. The four of us arrived via train from Montreal and I'm happy to report that it wasn't a bad walk (even lugging luggage) to the hotel. It was the Sunday in October of the Canadian Thanksgiving, and the place was hopping. (cruise ships in town). You can't beat the deals you can get for this hotel compared to others nearby. Another wonderful reason to stay here. Check-in was friendly. Our room was super clean. Quiet. Comfortable. So let's talk about the walk to Old Quebec. How bad is it? That really depends on what kind of shape you're in and what route you take. It's definitely a bit of an uphill hike, but having (surprisingly) conquered Mont Royal in Montreal, this old gal did just fine. And if you don't feel up to it, grab a ride. Note: food-wise there is a restaurant attached to the hotel, but we did not utilize it. We had no problem finding nearby coffee shops & restaurants. I would definitely stay here again and am happy to recommend it.

Complaint Regarding Hotel Staff Conduct and Room Disturbance…read more I am writing to formally express my concern regarding several troubling incidents that occurred during my recent hotel stay. By way of background, I am a business traveler who stays at more than 20 hotels each year. Until this experience, I have never received a complaint regarding noise or my conduct while staying at any hotel. I also have not used the television in a hotel room for several years; when I watch content while traveling, I do so on my iPad. The first incident occurred early in the morning after my first night's stay. At approximately 5:00 a.m., while I was fast asleep, the hotel room phone rang. Because the only phone in the room was located beneath the television, I had to get out of bed to answer it. When I answered and said hello, the caller hung up. Approximately ten minutes later, the phone rang again, and again there was no one on the other end of the line. Believing it may have been a wrong number and not wanting to be disturbed further, I removed the handset from the cradle. As an additional issue that morning, I was unable to return to sleep because the room alarm clock, apparently set by the previous occupant, went off at 6:00 a.m. The alarm clock was not located beside the bed, as one would normally expect, but near the room phone, requiring me to get up once again to turn it off. I later went about my day, mentioned the unusual sequence of events to my traveling companions, and initially assumed it was an isolated occurrence. Later that evening, after retiring for the night, I fell asleep while watching content on my iPad. Shortly after midnight, I was awakened by someone attempting to open my hotel room door. Fortunately, the door latch was engaged, which prevented entry into the room. I immediately got up and went to the door, where I observed the hotel manager and another individual who appeared to be security or maintenance personnel. Through the partially opened door, I told them to stop and not enter the room. The manager stated that I was creating a disturbance and that there had been several complaints regarding my television, which they claimed needed to be turned down or off. I explained that the television was not on. The manager then stated that he could hear something and warned me that if I did not cooperate, I would be removed from the hotel. I was shocked by both the accusation and the manner in which the situation was handled. Although I did not believe my iPad was at an unreasonable volume, I turned it off and attempted to return to sleep after calming down from the incident. The following morning, after discussing the prior night's events with friends I was traveling with, I was encouraged to speak with the manager on duty. I went to the front desk, provided my room number, and asked to confirm that the individuals who came to my room were in fact hotel staff. I also wanted to express my concern regarding the attempted entry and the way the matter had been handled. The manager involved in the prior night's incident came out from the back office and immediately confronted me. Rather than listening to my explanation, he made several accusations, interrupted me repeatedly, and again implied that I could be removed from the hotel if I did not cooperate. I did consider whether my iPad volume may have been louder than I realized. To better understand the situation, my traveling companions and I informally tested the same video at the same volume I had used the prior evening, as well as at full volume. While the sound could be heard from the hallway only when standing close to the door and listening carefully, it did not appear to be the type of disturbance that would reasonably impact multiple rooms in the surrounding area, as the manager claimed. My concern is not simply that a complaint was made, but that hotel staff attempted to enter my occupied room late at night, handled the matter in a confrontational manner, and did not provide me with a reasonable opportunity to explain the situation. I respectfully requested a response to my complaint in an email directly to the hotel. To date I have not received a response.

After the 2nd night, they will replace towels, trash, etc and full housekeeping service happens after the 4th night.  Also, our room had a couple of towels with holes in them. Check-in is at 4.30pm, which IMO, is pretty late. Do not expect early check-in to be available. Room rates are pretty high for the services, but given its location, I guess that's expected.

Exceptional Stay in the Heart of Old Québec…read more L'Hôtel du Vieux-Québec was our home for a six-day holiday in Québec City, and we could not have chosen a better place to stay. Our double queen room with kitchenette was spacious, immaculately clean, quiet, and exceptionally comfortable. After long days exploring the city, we particularly appreciated the deep soaking tub, the rainfall shower, and what may have been some of the best water pressure we've experienced in a hotel anywhere. Small details matter, and this hotel gets them right. The location is fantastic--perfectly situated within Old Québec and within easy walking distance of the city's historic sites, restaurants, shops, and attractions. Despite being in the heart of everything, the hotel was remarkably peaceful and quiet. One of our favorite amenities was the guest lounge and its outstanding coffee machine, which quickly became part of our daily routine. We also opted for the breakfast package, and it was a delight. Each morning we awoke to a basket of fresh breakfast goodies hanging on our door: fresh pastries, juice, yogurt, and other treats. We never tired of it. As a fun local note, visitors should know that the beloved pain au chocolat is called a "chocolatine" here, just as it is in the south of France! What truly sets this hotel apart, however, is its people. M. Pierrôt deserves special recognition. He was warm, helpful, knowledgeable, and always greeted us with a genuine smile. In truth, every member of the staff we encountered embodied the hotel's reputation for friendly, personalized service. We also appreciated staying in a property with such a rich history. Built on land once known as the "Garden of the Poor," where medicinal plants were cultivated by the Augustines of the Hôtel-Dieu de Québec, the site has witnessed centuries of Québec City's evolution. Today, the hotel beautifully blends that historic character with modern comfort and thoughtful amenities. It is easy to understand why L'Hôtel du Vieux-Québec has earned such an outstanding reputation among travelers. Don't get me wrong everything is insanely overpriced around here. This is Manhattan pricing. I think the whole thing is completely not worth it. The Frontenac is beautiful on the outside, but there's nothing really going on the inside and it's just surrounded by overpriced, mostly lousy, tourist trap restaurants. I would spend a day here that's it there's not much else to do if you are active. Overall, I'm very disappointed at the hotel and the area in my opinion was a complete rip off. The area was nice by the Frontenac, but all of the tourist trap restaurants and T-shirt and sweatshirt gift shops just ruined it for me. Decent walking if you are into hilly areas, pretty to see once but more of a one and done after a day. All of the videos I watched on this place and the area I feel deceived. It was not that interesting at all and not worth it in my opinion. I'm bummed out it was a waste of a lot of money and a lot of time getting there for a crappy hotel and a lot of bad food and average coffee at unfriendly coffee shops. By the way this hotel has no lobby coffee, no water or snacks whatsoever. Some nights are 500 even $600 a night here. As much as I hate Holiday Inn expresses they are far better than this hotel. This is just a basic no frills place and you can't even adjust the room thermostat. Apparently it's controlled by management so you have limited access if at all some evenings it was shut off completely. This should be illegal at this price range. Again you need your head examined if you pay this price here. I only did because I was deceived by overhyped reviews. A lot of hotels in area are same price but from the little I saw of them they appeared to have a more luxury vibe compared to this low end b&b type vibe here. Oh and by the way, they gave me parking passes for a lot across the street. I displayed all of them in my windshield and I was still given a ticket by a cop in this parking lot that was $92 found on my windshield. If I say I'll never be coming back it would be too soon.
