I stopped here for lunch with a friend, while visiting Île d'Orléans, an island near Quebec City. This was a festively decorated, elegant hotel restaurant with a plethora of windows, showcasing a stunning view of the St Lawerence River. I wanted to try a fish dish, and went with the Seared Halibut (46 Canadian Dollars), which was served with corn chowder and northern shrimp salad. This was nicely plated, and the fish was cooked beautifully and slightly crispy. The fish was fresh, tender, flaky, and had great flavor. Corn chowder underneath was creamy and tasty. The shrimp was succulent and well seasoned. Even though I enjoyed my meal, I definitely do not think it was worth the cost. Service was decent. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Prices were high though, so I have no plans on returning.

Visited the restaurant for lunch. Beautiful location, attractive restaurant. Friendly staff. Local menu items and local beers. Serving sizes are large. Poutine was delicious.

The hotel is beautiful, clean, and the staff are above friendly and helpful with great tips on where to visit. The restaurant view was beautiful and the food was generally good--the poutine was delicious! We didn't enjoy the veggie burger, the sauce was a strange flavor that overpowered everything, and the patty was very soft with almost no bite to it. Poké was a bit salty but very refreshing, fish and chips were standard, super tender fish with a crispy exterior but has no flavor without the sauce. Prices were high but not unjustifiable considering the portions.

Beautiful seaside hotel with restaurant. It's actually on a river but definitely feels seaside. Sitting by the window on a sunny day is spectacular. We had a very friendly server and the food was very good. We really enjoyed ourselves here.

Stopped by for lunch on our drive around the island, cute French themed recommended by our hotel concierge. Good service and tasty lunch fare, had a French bison burger delicate and tasty, wife had corn meal pastry with quail and a delicate salad. Great ambience/service, value and tasty meal adds up to dive stars

We loved this stop for lunch! Beautiful water views. The best beet salad I've ever had and my husband's chicken was amazing. 10/10 would recommend!

One of the most wonderful meals I've ever had. Ever. (and yes, that includes the awesome meals in Paris). The ambience is gorgeous and the dining room overlooks the river. I would recommend the table d'hôte - the courses were spaced so masterfully that we had just had enough time to savor a course, let it settle, and the moment we started thinking of the next course it would arrive - wonderful. We made a reservation that afternoon. Upon arriving, it turned out that the front desk from the B&B had not communicated this with the restaurant, but they quickly found us a table. Looking around, there were people dressed up for a fancy date as well as people who had slipped on some jeans and a sweater for a casual Friday night out. Okay, my French is pretty limited and abysmal, but our waitress was extremely patient with me as I asked questions and ordered from the menu. The soup of the day was a creamy tomato soup with balsamic - SO good. I got the bison tartare as my second course and it was amazing - nicely sized pieces of bison cut with capers and a little bit of yogurt dressing. It stood in stark contrast to my wife's seasonal salad of arugula, strawberries, and parmasean, which was also quite nice. The main course was killer: ravioli of mushrooms and cheese in a delicious butter sauce. My wife was a little jealous, though she loved her rabbit with parsnip puree and side of vegetables and gnocchi. The desserts were great, but left the least impact (it had three tough acts to follow!) - I recommend the chocolate. My wife's peach dessert looked suspiciously like the strawberry one. When we asked they assured us that was the correct dessert. Oh well... Don't know if I could afford staying at the B&B side, but the restaurant at la Goéliche is a very wonderful experience and a place worth going to for a splurge night out.

Before reviewing let me say two things: if you visit Quebec City do not miss a trip to Orleans Island (L'ile d'Orleans) and while there do not pass up dinner at La Goeliche. You might at first be intimidated by the exclusive look of the restaurant/hotel on the south tip of the island but do not. Prices range between $45 and about $65 for a four-course "prix fix" meal featuring innovative dishes using local ingredients. My main dish was duck ravioli; appetizer was seared tuna. My wife had an appetizer of asparagus and sliced quail breast drizzled with a Parmesan emulsion. Her main course was seared scallops and pork. Out of this world all around. A bottle of local island white went perfectly with all courses. Service was top notch: attentive but never intrusive. Go here!

The Chateau is an architectural gem. It is well worth your time to walk around the perimeter of this gorgeous building -- you won't be bored. The tour guide explained that the Chateau is a 5 Star hotel and everything must be perfect. Once inside, I saw chandeliers and window ledges caked with white dust. The "grand ballroom" reminded me of my high school all purpose room. We were warned not to touch anything because the grand ballroom was being prepared for an Easter Brunch. Two of the tablecloths covering the round guest tables had strange, yellow spots on them. If I return to Quebec in the future, I will stay at the Hilton which has a fabulous buffet breakfast that is reasonably priced and an equally fabulous view looking down on the Chateau and the old city.

There were people immediately to take care of our luggage, and to wave us away when they said they would take care of the parking and any other logistics. Check-in was easy, and I was delighted to discover I had been given an upgraded room without making any request or having any particular status. The room was twice as large as most hotel rooms I've stayed at, with delightful views, a large and very comfortable bed, a couch and desk, and a style that was elegant without being stuffy. My fellow travelers had a room that was even more phenomenal because of the view it had over the water and the cruise ships that were coming and going. Hotel staff were always helpful with suggestions for places to go or neighborhoods where we'd find a selection of restaurants to eat at. In the evenings there is a small and comfortable area to order drinks and to listen to the guitarist or to simply sit and watch the fireplace. Although it is a high priced hotel, I would absolutely return. Its location is perfect. Walkable throughout the old town area and to the port. And its comfort and sense of quiet unpretentious luxury cannot be beat.

The breakfast at Chez Muffy was exceptional...the first morning it was so good I deemed it the best breakfast of my life (over a 1/2 century of living too). The only minor complaint we had was that we arrived late and the bar was closed. We were a little hungry so the front desk receptionist offered us some snacks from the mini bar. We should have realized these snacks would be mini bar pricing even though he handed them to us from the reception desk. $26 of chips and pretzels showed up on the bill! Our mistake. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again though. The bed was comfortable. The shower great too. And the service was very friendly.

Exceptional Stay in the Heart of Old Québec…read more L'Hôtel du Vieux-Québec was our home for a six-day holiday in Québec City, and we could not have chosen a better place to stay. Our double queen room with kitchenette was spacious, immaculately clean, quiet, and exceptionally comfortable. After long days exploring the city, we particularly appreciated the deep soaking tub, the rainfall shower, and what may have been some of the best water pressure we've experienced in a hotel anywhere. Small details matter, and this hotel gets them right. The location is fantastic--perfectly situated within Old Québec and within easy walking distance of the city's historic sites, restaurants, shops, and attractions. Despite being in the heart of everything, the hotel was remarkably peaceful and quiet. One of our favorite amenities was the guest lounge and its outstanding coffee machine, which quickly became part of our daily routine. We also opted for the breakfast package, and it was a delight. Each morning we awoke to a basket of fresh breakfast goodies hanging on our door: fresh pastries, juice, yogurt, and other treats. We never tired of it. As a fun local note, visitors should know that the beloved pain au chocolat is called a "chocolatine" here, just as it is in the south of France! What truly sets this hotel apart, however, is its people. M. Pierrôt deserves special recognition. He was warm, helpful, knowledgeable, and always greeted us with a genuine smile. In truth, every member of the staff we encountered embodied the hotel's reputation for friendly, personalized service. We also appreciated staying in a property with such a rich history. Built on land once known as the "Garden of the Poor," where medicinal plants were cultivated by the Augustines of the Hôtel-Dieu de Québec, the site has witnessed centuries of Québec City's evolution. Today, the hotel beautifully blends that historic character with modern comfort and thoughtful amenities. It is easy to understand why L'Hôtel du Vieux-Québec has earned such an outstanding reputation among travelers. For us, it was the perfect base from which to explore one of North America's most beautiful and historic cities. We would not hesitate to stay here again and recommend it enthusiastically to anyone visiting Québec City. A sincere thank you to M. Pierrôt and the entire team for making our holiday so memorable. We hope to return again soon.

This is a 125 hotel all day long except for its 15 minutes walking distance to the Frontenac Hotel which is about the same price right now. Don't get me wrong everything is insanely overpriced around here. This is Manhattan pricing. I think the whole thing is completely not worth it. The Frontenac is beautiful on the outside, but there's nothing really going on the inside and it's just surrounded by overpriced, mostly lousy, tourist trap restaurants. I would spend a day here that's it there's not much else to do if you are active. Overall, I'm very disappointed at the hotel and the area in my opinion was a complete rip off. The area was nice by the Frontenac, but all of the tourist trap restaurants and T-shirt and sweatshirt gift shops just ruined it for me. Decent walking if you are into hilly areas, pretty to see once but more of a one and done after a day. All of the videos I watched on this place and the area I feel deceived. It was not that interesting at all and not worth it in my opinion. I'm bummed out it was a waste of a lot of money and a lot of time getting there for a crappy hotel and a lot of bad food and average coffee at unfriendly coffee shops. By the way this hotel has no lobby coffee, no water or snacks whatsoever. Some nights are 500 even $600 a night here. As much as I hate Holiday Inn expresses they are far better than this hotel. This is just a basic no frills place and you can't even adjust the room thermostat. Apparently it's controlled by management so you have limited access if at all some evenings it was shut off completely. This should be illegal at this price range. Again you need your head examined if you pay this price here. I only did because I was deceived by overhyped reviews. A lot of hotels in area are same price but from the little I saw of them they appeared to have a more luxury vibe compared to this low end b&b type vibe here. Oh and by the way, they gave me parking passes for a lot across the street. I displayed all of them in my windshield and I was still given a ticket by a cop in this parking lot that was $92 found on my windshield. If I say I'll never be coming back it would be too soon.
