We sat on second floor with a view overlooking 5th Ave, very nice. We started with shrimp cocktail. The shrimp was very fresh and tasty. The sauce was not spicy at all, more sweet. But they brought hot sauce to kick it up. The avocado on top was mostly spoiled so I am not sure why they served it. The wife had pibil and the pork was very tender, but she was expecting more flavor. I had shrimp tacos and they were very good. The shrimp was cut into small pieces instead of whole. The corn tortillas were fresh and I really liked them. The kid had spaghetti with red sauce and said it was delicious. Service was gracious and efficient. They sat 4 awholes right next to me in a completely empty 2nd floor seating. No cold glass with my Bohemia beer. Ordered Guacamole and chips and got Guac with 4 chips. Chips and Salsa finally arrived and got some red puree in one cup and chopped, dried chopped tomatoes in another cup. Lob was on the small side. Nothing like Puerto Neuvo around K38 South of Rosario. The steak was OK. Got a complementary shot of Blanco. Tasting it instantly reminded me of Tijuana in the 70's. Got a Flan, no syrup. Bland. The waiter brings credit card machine and enters the total 960 pesos, didn't give us detailed bill. He said that tip was not included and asked us to leave the tip in cash. Whoever the big young guy is he definitely has a problem with people. I thought he was a hawker for the place, now I think maybe owners son? He was intimidating and insulting to passersby's, played feely with a girl and picked his teeth close to where we sat. Our drinks arrived, strong margs. A loud waiter came up and asked to take our picture "for the restaurant ". We cuddled and smiled. He came back with a half pint of tequila with our picture on it. We could buy it for1000 pesos! I rarely leave reviews and I'm an easy going person, but I feel compelled to leave this so people don't waste their precious time in Playa at this place. Since I was a kid this has been a family favorite and now, under new management, this place has changed to being a place to avoid. A shrimp cocktail is now frozen shrimps in plain tomato sauce....it was terrible. The drinks were as underwhelming as the service and despite all the early warning signs we had, we forged on and ordered main courses. Oooops, can't get that night back! There are so many other places to try so please go somewhere else and let me and my family take the bullet for trying this place. We went here a couple times just for the drink specials. 2 for 1 drinks during happy hour. Excellent drinks, friendly service, and all drinks are served on the waiter's head...literally. The first visit, we were able to convince them to include Herradura margaritas in their 2 for 1 special. It came down to $3.50 USD or so for each margarita. Insane. The second time, the manager insisted we only get house tequila in the margarita, but that was actually pretty good and still 100% blue agave. Fun, festive place, central location on 5th ave, great balcony seating, and you can't beat the happy hour prices! Note, the entrance is slightly hidden, as the restaurant is upstairs only. Just look for the sign and/or the guy inviting you to dine in. read more

I really enjoyed this place everything was great The only thing that I did not really like was the chips they were to dry and hard. Some guy named Pancho asked if he could take a picture we said yes. This was our first night in Playa del Carmen. I don't know how but we find this authentic restaurant and to placed on the second level so we can enjoy the view on "Quinta avenida". We ended up here after some power-shopping... and we weren't disappointed. The food is absolutely fantastic. Everything we had was delicious. The service was excellent as they were fun and energetic and fast. The Margaritas are served on the waiters heads, which was really fun. My only caution or tip would be to decline them from taking any photos of you. They pressure you into buying little tequila bottles with images of you on them. This was a major turn off for us...it sort of spoiled the jovial mood. Luckily the food and the atmosphere drowned out the odd/uncomfortable tequila selling... Highly recommend!! read more

When we were walking on 5th avenue we saw this little place with a balcony overlooking the street. We thought it would be a nice little place to get some Mexican food and some drinks. The sangria was so sweet and we couldn't taste any red wine. Honestly the worst sangria I've ever had. The guacamole was made table side and was decent. We decided to get queso fundido with chorizo. It was literally just a slab of melted cheese. You couldn't even dip a chip into it. We got the mixed fajitas and it was the highlight of the meal. Juicy steak, seasoned chicken, and rubbery shrimp mixed with onions, peppers, and cheese. Overall would not recommend. After the server brought our food, he did not come back until I called him to get some the dessert menu.
