We were setted and no waiter for 20 minutes. Asked 3 times for chips and never got them. One person did not get their meal until after the rest of us were finished. The meat on two dishes were not the same meat as at other LaCarretas. Waitress was obviously pissed and came across as hateful. It was my mother's day dinner and was very disappointed. We were excited to see a Mexican restaurant when we moved just a couple miles away in our new town of Gray. We always judge a new place on first impressions, the service, and.... the food. The first impression, zero. No greeting. And it's a small place. Finally we're noticed and taken to the back. Waited probably five minutes for water. Another five for a drink order. The waiter couldn't have cared less. Two stars alone in this review are for the salsa. I'm pretty picky and I love the salsa. Ran out of chips quickly, no waiter in sight. We ordered enchiladas, ground beef. Huge mistake. They have never heard of seasoning. So...except for the salsa... three strikes and you're out. We decided to try again. Order something other than ground beef. From the beginning, exact same experience. Ignored by all. Again, delicious salsa, but crickets when I want more. Husband ordered chipotle burrito. I ordered crab fajita quesadilla. What a difference. Absolutely delicious. Five stars for the food tonight. They redeemed themselves!! UPDATE: 8/5/20: Family arrived from out of town, starving at 6:30. Our favorite go-to place has changed to take out only, whoops, so our only choice for a sit down was La Carreta that was close. I warned them: the service is awful, there's only one server that cares and I think he's the owner. And I forgot to tell them that they don't use cheddar cheese. Big mistake. My three exhausted teenaged grandchildren, after flying all day, looked in a stupor at their nachos that were swimming in what looked like white milk. Their parents said just Eat. Like usual, the salsa was delicious. Everything else was tasteless. This was three strikes and you're out for this newbie. I absolutely LOVE good Mexican food but this place is far from it. My food came out barely room temperature and was incredibly bland. The service is amazing. The staff was attentive to drinks and the food came out extremely quick. The restaurant itself is cute and clean but unfortunately the food doesn't live up to it. I would go here to grab a drink and chips and salsa but definitely not for a meal. read more

Pleasant visit with a large group. Menu was extensive, staff was polite but definitely struggled a bit in English (Authentic has a dark side) but they strove to be attentive. Food was very basic and well prepared, beverages were kept full. Individual checks were prepared promptly for the couple and singles that made up our group. A couple of group members struggled to receive their drinks and entrees. Those customers got a bit miffed, but, language appeared to be an honest but impactful issue. But overall, a pleasant experience in a town without many options. read more

As server recommended, we ordered Sizzling hot shrimp fajitas with lots of fresh veggies including sliced tomatoes and green pepper, and fresh lettuce ---this was very well done w lots of shrimp. Guacamole was standard as they added sour cream. Good salsa and refried beans, but a tad bit bland. Service was good and atmosphere was like most other mexican joints. Prob best (and only) one in Gray as there aren't to many dining options. read more

This says it all- way better than the two places in JC(name starts with el) All staff complying with mask mandate. Tables spaced properly. And the best part- food was absolutely outstanding-plates came to table hot,not slightly warm.Great flavor. We will return! Certainly worth the trip. Drinks are a bit pricey. read more

They have greatly improved. In past would have said worse in town, however, they have stepped up their game. Always friendly service, great to go readiness. Good portion and serving size, quality food and ingredients. Rice here though tends to be on bland side but everything else have had no complaints. This restaurant is very convenient and we really enjoy their food. The chips are fresh and warm and the salsa is delicious. I love the Mexican Guacamole, which is the chunky style instead of the smooth style. We also order cheese dip with our chips which is also very good. My favorite item is the shrimp tacos. La Carreta is one of the few places where they have the soft shells and the shrimp is cooked well...no over or under. They are plain, but I add refried beans, pico, and guacamole. We also enjoy being able to call in and pick the food up to take home. This restaurant is definitely worth a try! read more

Never had a case of bad service here. The waiters are friendly and efficient. They don't hover, but you're never in need of a refill and the food is always delicious. This restaurant used to be excellent, but things have greatly changed! I will never come back because the service was terrible, waited almost twenty minutes for just our drinks so our waiter could have a very loud conversation with another employee, we were completely disregarded! The food was so-so, nothing that can't be found at any other Mexican restaurant in town. The salsa bowl was also reused, makes we wonder just how sanitary that ladle is that they use to dip the salsa out?!?!! I will never return! read more
