Stopped by La Carreta and tried a burrito with tacos. The burrito was good and tacos were okay, but the beans and rice ended up being the best part of the meal. Prices are more affordable than a lot of other spots, which is a plus. Complimentary chips and salsa were nice, But the restaurant wasn't very clean, and there was only one employee running the whole front of the place. They were doing their best, but it still took forever just to get our check at the end. Overall, it's budget-friendly and the sides are tasty, but the cleanliness and slow service make it hard to fully recommend. read more

Okay so i got the "taquitos" i wish i never came here. I am suffering from really bad stomach pain and i feel like vomiting every second. It's terrible the so called "taquitos" were so bad they were almost BURNT! the rice was nasty and dry i had to mix my beans with them. The only good thing was the beans. SODA WAS $4.00.. WTF! I got the fried ice cream for desert, not good at all. I WOULD GIVE THIS PLACE 0 STARS IF THAT WAS AN OPTION. I am so beyond disappointed . read more

This was my first time visiting this restaurant. It seems to want to spend a Pizza Hut judging by the design. But that's neither here nor there. What I found surprising and very pleasant is that the seats and the table at the booth's have plenty of room. Amazing! They had pretty good salsa and chips. I prefer my salsa a little chunkier but this seems to be the norm. Ordered off the lunch menu and got the chili relleno and tostada lunch. It was very good and well priced. Great value for delicious and authentic flavors. At our table we had incredible enchiladas, a hearty steak taco, and a generous "Acapulco salad" with chicken as well as some fantastic guacamole dip. Will definitely eat here again when we're in the area. read more

Glad I tried this mom and pop place but the food lacked major flavor. Food is fresh and tastes home made. The flavors are plain meaning not overly salty or spicy. I dumped the entire salsa on my food. It was delicious and fresh. The pico degallo is made with fresh avocado, onions garlic tomatoes (I've never had pico with avocadoes in it so it reminds me of guacamole) $3.95 for a good size amount. The guacamole has sour cream mixed in it. I preferred the pico. So no need to get this appetizer it will come with most food options The chicken fajita came with pinto beans (vegetarian style and not overly salty) , guacamole salad with sour cream was OK & Mexican rice was basic/plain. (choice of flour or corn tortilla) the chicken was dry but when I added the salsa it was yum. Grilled onions bell peppers and tomatoes accompanied the chicken. A lot of food for 11.95. The shrimp fajitas were ok. The shrimp was boiled and tasted very light. $14.50 for this ok dish. Too bad they didn't have black beans to try but then again I'm OK with minimal musical legumes. Toot toot. Free soda with a check in :) I would not take a trip out of the way for this place but if you're in the area check it out. read more

I have been coming to this place for three years now and has never disappointed it is my favorite restaurant the only restaurant I will come to in the area they have not change the quality and the quantity of the food they give you. I always rave about this restaurant to all my family and friends. The only thing is that couple of the waiters can be impatient I have gone with friends that have kids and they've made us feel a little uncomfortable but majority of them are great. read more

What can one say about La Carreta? It's solid, fast, cheap, and consistent. I've been eating at this chain for years in various cities (mostly Lynchburg) and when I moved to Winchester I was delighted to see that there is one here. Best cheese dip around, decent chimichangas and burritos, great fajitas, and fantastic margaritas, all for cheap. There's probably better Mexican food around, BUT, not for prices like these. read more

My sister and I live in front royal and come to Winchester to eat here because it is the BEST place around. The food is soo damn good! Every time we go the food is amazing, the service is amazing. And the portions they give you are well worth the money and more and the prices are reasonable. Love the atmosphere, love the waiters, the cooks are out of this world cause our food is always delicious and i recommend this place to everyone! Also the raspberry tea is BOMB!! I've been dining at La Carreta for 20 years. This place cannot be beat. Their cheese enchiladas are actually made with Mexican Oaxaca so they taste very authentic. Try to eat only one, you can't! Go ahead and order three, they're small anwyay. Ask them to make the queso fundida and if you're with carnivores, add chorizo to it; it comes with tiny tortillas. You will love if you love authentic Mexican food for a price that's so cheap, you feel guilty. read more

Based on all the reviews I've read here, I have to ask: what happened? The place had the tortilla marketing down and the food was fresh. That being said... ...it was bland and watery. I absolutely detest Taco Bell and haven't eaten it in years and yet what I recall is spicier than the food I had here. The guac looked like it was made in a blender (i.e. storebought), the salsa the same thing. Definitely no addition of anything to the ground beef in the enchiladas. From what I can tell, this was once a great place to eat, but has cut corners to the point that it's not worth the time. There are better Mexican restaurants to be had in town. read more

First thing.... we had stale chips. Not a good sign. But the salsa was good, so we ordered. I got a beef chimi fried and when I cut into it, I saw white runny cheese in doughy wrap and smothered under lettuce and a stale slice of tomato. I guess I am stilted having worked in a mexican restaurant years ago, but there is not enough "cooking" in this dish for me. I want to see the re-fried beans covered with lighly oven browned cheese. One of my favorite places to eat!! Friendly staff, great food. We have been going here for almost 15 years and haven't had a bad experience yet. I love that the food has flavor and oomf. Most places in town don't. Camino Real isn't bad but it just doesn't have the kick you want with Mexican food.. maybe it's because I grew up on tex-mex.....I usually get the Beef Chimichangas or the Carne Asada. They are both very good. Their best asset by far is the queso. I'm not sure what they use but there is none better! Give it a chance if you haven't yet. There is a reason Mexican restaurants come and go and La Carreta is still thriving! read more
