We had an extremely disappointing experience with Casa de Piedra Winery. From the very beginning, Alejandro's attitude and unprofessionalism set the tone for what turned out to be a frustrating and unpleasant interaction.
We made a reservation, which Alejandro personally confirmed. However, when we called for directions, he tried to claim that we didn't have a reservation at all. After presenting him the confirmation, he reluctantly admitted that he had made the reservation. Even then, he was resistant to give us the proper address. Instead of simply providing the address over the phone, he insisted on texting it to us.
After hanging up, we waited and waited for the promised text. When it did not come, we had to call back. With the second request Alejandro finally sent the address. We immediately let him know we were on our way.
Despite arriving just 15 minutes later, with the tasting room completely empty and more than a half hour before their scheduled closing, Alejandro refused to allow us a tasting.
He continually insisted it is their policy to cancel any reservation if the party is 15 or more minutes late. He could have easily accommodated us but refused as a matter of 'policy'. Keep in mind that when we called it was well before our appointment time and if he had been more cooperative from the beginning we would have been at the winery on time.
Alejandro's refusal to just give us the correct address in a timely and cooperative manner caused us to be about 20 minutes tardy. That said, there was no one in the tasting room when we arrived so it was not a case of them having moved on to other customers. This level of wilful obstruction and lack of respect for our time is absolutely unacceptable.
We spent several days in Valle de Guadalupe and Casa de Piedra was the exception, as every other winery we visited was a model of accommodation and polite engagement. When we shared our experience with others during our trip they also concurred that Casa de Piedra Winery was an exception of arrogance and difficulty.
The entire experience was riddled with rudeness and inefficiency. I cannot recommend Casa de Piedra Winery to anyone who values good customer service or a pleasant experience. Save your time and money for there are many places in Valle de Guadalupe that actually appreciate its guests. read more
